I have a expensive S**y uhd 4k Blu-ray player, but the picture quality and performance is better on PANASONIC UB420P 4K UltraHD. Picture quality is more brighter and clearer on any formats, it really shows on 4k ultra hd movies and blu-rays. The picture quality is extremely good, and lots of tweaks to try out. The S**y lacks of power, its takes really long to power it up and sometimes it frases completely on long disks. The panasonic works like a charm, it survived all the way from United States to Finland in the box with no padding. The box was almost destroyed, but it works perfectly ! ! * * * * * It's the best player for its price in the world. Sorry for my bad english. (I took a picture every of a blu-ray anime) ... show more

    • Dream Come True - Saving All Those Euro Blu Rays paid off
So happy to finally own a region-free blu ray player, especially a 4K one! After upgrading to 4K a few years ago I swore the next time I got a player I'd go region free and bought as many Euro blu rays that interested me. Tested out a bunch of them immediately and was satisfied with the results - big thanks to 220-Electronics, works perfectly out of the box and no complaints! The most impressive quality is definitely the upscaling of BluRays and DVD to 4K, this Panasonic handles it extremely well and its impressive for sure. If anyone's still reading this review, I recommend checking out the Italian crime drama serires 'Gomorrah'. It's an excellent thriller show and I'm so happy to play the Blu Ray I bought back in High School. ... show more

Works as advertise. This is a modded Player so you can play all region. it has all the feature of the original model. It just include the ability to play all region.

I bought this unit after I returned an LG version that made all the same claims this unit makes. The LG version would connect to the home network, but all LG players have removed the buffering feature and thus Netflix and Pandora cannot successfully play. That was the 2nd LG unit in a row that did this, so I moved to this Panasonic unit. Twice the price, but many reviews said it connected to the network easily and there seemed few complaints. So I spent the money and got this unit and sure nuff it connects to my network fairly easily, just put in my password and I'm connected. Had to download Pandora to it, but it took it and once I put in my log in there it it played nicely. So you must be wondering why 1 star? Everytime I turn it on I have to readd my network. It remembers the Pandora info, but refuses to save the network login. This is the number 1 reason I got this. I only watch a few movies a year, but want to watch Netflix and listen to Pandora over this unit, but each time it is turned on I have to reconnect to my network. It remembers my Pandora info, so it is just a poor programming design feature of Panasonic. Very disappointed ... show more

    • Be warned.. the region free version may not work with all commercial disks.
This is a great player. PQ is outstanding and it's a nice compliment to a good 4K TV. However, I have the region free mod., so feel I should warn you, it will NOT play every region 2 disk. I have some brand new disks, released through Warner Bros. and they are locked in region 2 and cant be played on this machine. Also, in case they forget to send you the instructions, you need to press the region number on the remote to put the deck in the correct region mode. For example; if you have a region 2 disk, you need to press the #2 button directly after turning the power on. The machine cant figure it out for it's self. EDIT 17Aug16: Ok, I figured out how to play these region 2 disks that were giving me problems (see comments above). I have to use the "tray open/close" button on the remote instead of pressing "play". So, after pressing 2, I open the tray, put the disc in, and press close button. When the tray closes, the machine reads the disc, and goes into the main menu with no problems. I ordered them from Amazon UK. So, it's kind of a gamble. Most region 2 PAL disks play fine though. ... show more

I received this unit on 7-16-2022. I had to wait until now, (8-1-2022), when my Region 2 DVD Set arrived to test out the Panasonic UB420P. Picture is sharp, I'm connected by 4K/8K/10K High Quality HDMI to my HD TV. (I don't, yet, have a 4K TV.) The Multi-Region options work as advertised on the Panasonic UB420P.
