The revolutionary ECM motor with intelligent self-adjusting SmartFlow technology senses the amount of resistance in the duct run and automatically adjusts the fan speed to deliver the optimal CFM output, even in the case of a complicated duct run. The built-in Pick-A-Flow airflow selector provides the unique ability to select your required airflow (50-80-100 CFM) with the simple flip of a switch. The extremely thin profile of the WhisperValue DC fan opens up options for where you can install the fan, which is UL listed for ceiling or wall mount. Panasonic fans use less energy to move larger volumes of air than other brands. It's very quiet and easy to install, if you follow instructions you can find on YouTube. Separate the electrical by removing one screw and releasing the clips, then install it first to the side of the opening in the ceiling, then insert the fan box. The paper insert is useless.

This is a great fan and moves air very well with less noise than common fans that have a name starting with "B". A UL Listed fan was an absolute requirement. Lots of low profile fans on the market that do not have a safety certification. However, Panasonic is missing out on ceiling-side installation as a replacement fan. I was able to remove the fan and the section that holds the duct/electrical junction box from the housing. It would have been possible to reconnect the duct/electrical section once the housing was inserted from the ceiling side.....but the attachment point was misaligned by the thickness of the drywall, so I had to install from the attic side anyway. If the housing was 5/8" higher to offset the drywall thickness, the unit would still fit a 3-1/2" low profile space, but would be installed through the ceiling side rather than on the attic side. One review states they were able to install from the ceiling side, but the version I received would not work this way. Also, it would be better to provide a way to secure the fan housing from inside the room rather than the attic. The support arm provided is a challenge to install in tight spaces in an attic. I realize this would require retooling at the factory, but I would have selected a UL Listed low-profile fan that installed on the ceiling side over any others - if it was available. This one works nicely, but could be easier to install with some design changes. ... show more

Great product. Flexible ways to install. Compact compared to some other fans. Three fan speeds to choose how much noise is generated. On the lowest (50 cfm) it's almost undetectable. Med (85 cfm) is very quiet. 100 is a bit noisier but still very quiet. Especially compared to those cheap fans at the hardware store. Even though the output is oval shaped you can directly connect 4 inch round hose to the oval opening. The oval just allows for mounting in a 2 x 4 wall. ... show more

    • Perfect for new install or in existing 2x4 side walls
I am very happy with the fan and installed it easily myself with only basic handyman skills. The unit fits nicely in a 2x4 sidewall. The vent ducting is directed up inside the drywall above the fan assembly and through a hole cut in the wall's top plate, into the attic. The oval shape of the fan's vent duct connector, allows the vent pipe to fit between the space within the wall. An adapter to to convert the 4 inch oval to 3 inch round ducting, is available right here on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00M40I6G4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 The fan will pulsate in speed, if it's connected to a timer switch, unless the timer is specifically rated as Panasonic compatible. The fan has a 5 second delay when first switched on. The sound is barely audible on the lowest speed selection, a bit louder on medium speed, and more noticeable on the highest speed.
