These subwoofers' clarity and sheer output ability are just absolutely unreal. I feel that I need to go into an extensive review for these subs to give you the full feel of just how incredible these things are, so if you're not in the mood to read a long review, please move on. To give a little background on my experience with car audio, I started out in 1993 with 2 15" Savard Pro Series in a 5 cu/ft custom sealed box powered by an old school Kenwood KAC-1021 amp. For those that don't know the specs, it pumped out almost 800 watts of clean RMS Japanese power. These two subs netted me 138.4 db at my first competition in 1994. That was fairly impressive back then, as things just weren't as advanced as they are now. Class D amps were just being invented and they sounded terrible at the time. That said, it wasn't long after that that I blew the Kenwood and had it repaired, but around that time I came across a US Amps 100HCCA that delivered around 1200 watts at .5 ohm, (yes it was a high current cheater amp) so I decided to put the Kenwood on my mids. Once I discovered that I couldn't pull the new US Amps impedance low enough for what it would do, I decided to trade up to 4 15" Orion XTR DVC's in a full wall. I pushed the full load of those 15's parallel straight to that US Amp at .5 ohm and it absolutely slammed. My highs were loud and clear (old school MB Quart components) and my 15's would cross your eyes at 45hz. I hit 151.6 db at my last competition in 1996 with that setup. Afterward, some douchebag wrecked into my car and destroyed everything, but since then, I have had a number of different setups, old school Kicker Solobaric 12's, Alpine Type S, Type R, Polk DBI, Rockford P3's, JL w3's, and recently, a fantastic pair of Digital Designs 12's that I ended up trading for a pair of Skar 12's. I have had custom boxes made for every one of these subs. The single most important thing is your box when it comes to subs....or so I thought. These Sundowns are absolute monsters. I thought I was making a mistake in picking these. While they are not the entry level Sundown subs, they are also not the X or Z series, but based on the power I was pushing to them, these just made more sense. Being older now, I was not looking for a supreme SPL monter that I used ti go for, and making quite a bit more money than I did then, I have my own SPL and RTA measurement setup now, and after tuning this system to as close to perfect as I can get it, I can only describe the result as stunning. I have them in a 4.5 cu/ft vented box, rear firing in a 2011 Toyota Corolla S (my daily commute car) with a JBL BP1200.1 (1389 actual measured watts at 13.5v @1 ohm) and a new model Mb Quart Onyx 4.125 on the mids with 2 Alpine Type R 6.5's in the doors and 2 Dayton 6" midbass woofers in the rear deck crossed over in a 3 way setup. I am not trying to brag because none of you will ever hear this setup, but I can only describe it as ungodly. I have maxed it out at 152.1db (a full db louder than 4 15's in a wall behind my head with comparable power) and sound quality that is second to no SQL car I've heard at any competition I've ever been in. These Sundown subs hit damn hard, solid, and accurate. I do not care what anyone says about these subs, they may not be marketed as sound quality subs, but they absolutely fill the role flawlessly. These things beat, and beat hard. I'm going to be forced to sound dampen everything because otherwise it's going to tear the car apart and I would very much like to keep it in good condition. At this price point, there is absolutely no competition, I would put these up against a JL W7 or DD level 3 or 4 any day of the week and not look back. If you want an unbelievable sub at an almost unrealistic price for what it does, then look no further, stop reading this and buy them right now. ... show more

  • My two days after install assessment.
I put them in just two days ago and I'm a true believer now. I took a Q-bomb box, lined it really well with dynamat and the carpet liner to prepare the box, which made my 1-ohm kickers 12's sound like rock stars until the SA-12's came in. When they came and I put these bad boys in, I was floored. These things hit deep, strong and crisp. I thought their SPL performance side would cause me to lose SQ, but these babies gave me so much much more detail that SQ (sound quality) improved dramatically. They're powered by a Soundstream Arachnid 8000 watt monoblock amp with an 8-farad capacitor, wired with 4-gauge wire... and that's it. The lights really don't flicker or dim unless I'm really pushing the volume way beyond comfortable listening. Even beyond those levels, these keep up their performance, and are looking for more. They're in the back of a 2017 Jeep Wrangler facing forward, and flex me and every part of the Jeep when pushed. Mine are still breaking in and are breaking every level of sound that any previous subs have ever held in any vehicle I've owned. To sum it up, these will fit your 12" box like a glove, provide top SQ/SPL levels of performance, and not unnecessarily suck your finances dry, because you'll most likely be satisfied enough to not want more, like myself. My buddy got the Orion HCCA 12's and had to enlarge the holes in his box, and is having a hard time tuning them. They're expensive, power hungry, way OP, and aren't even as crisp/punchy sounding like the Sundowns. They also require you to run 0-gauge wire, HP alternator or second battery. His are powered by a 10,000 watt amp. It's huge. No thank you. Get these. You won't regret it. BigSeanE! ... show more

  • Great sub just dont seal it.
Great sub overall, Initially had this in a seal box built to spec it sounds pretty good but the voice coil kept wanting to just the gap and would pop on sub 30hz. So I put it in a ported box and I can go full tilt on them and no popping but they will start smelling fast (within a minute of playing Decaf's White Cloud.) My advice is only use these in a ported box tuned to spec otherwise you can damage them fairly easy. Im running them on a Orion XTR 2500.1 Reason for 4 stars is that this is not really a seal compatible subwoofer. But its one of the best for the price. ... show more

  • They look like great subs. I made a mistake when ordering
I messed up and ordered the wrong set. I knew I needed 2 ohm. Not sure how I did it, but I ordered 4ohm. They came packaged perfectly and arrived quickly. I pulled one out to inspect it. Well made and I think they will do the job. It was about that time I took a second look at the box and realized I screwed up. My amp is 2 ohm stable and there are some tests on youtube that show it stable at 1.33. There's just no way 2 4ohm subs will give me a 2ohm load and make my amp output the proper power to the speakers. I promptly put everything back in the packaging and send it back. They accepted my return and I am grateful for that. It did cost me a re-stocking fee, but it was my fault not theirs. I will definitely buy the correct subs from them. I can't wait to hear them. ... show more
