This is a handy countertop compost bin that does not allow odors to escape unless the lid is open. Since the lid doesn’t seal I have no idea why the odors don’t escape; I only know that they don’t. We use a compostable liner with it so it stays clean. It is easy to flip the lid open with any part of your hand and the handle stays out of the way until you use it to carry it to your larger container or compost pile. The color is an attractive deep gray that looks good while being unobtrusive. It is sturdy and the lid removes easily for cleaning. We have no complaints and recommend it highly as long as the dimensions work for your space.

Our village recently added composting to our garbage pickup to keep compostable materials out of the landfill. While they provided a large bin that we keep outside, we needed something small to keep in the kitchen to hold compostable material temporarily. This has worked out perfectly for us. It's large enough that it can hold over a days worth and easily fits on our kitchen counter. The lid easily stays open while scooping in scraps and closes with just a tap, and sturdy handle makes it easy to carry to the big bin, and it's easy to clean. While this will work well with compostable bags, we've been using it bagless. So far we haven't had any issues with odor or bugs, but we tend to empty it out and rinse it out at least every other day, so nothing really stays long enough to cause a problem. This has helped us make a smooth transition to separating our compostable material instead of using the garbage disposal or putting it in our normal trash.

Way more convenient than the large coffee can we were using. Easy open one handed, drop the lid for a strong seal with no odor, smooth inner surface and wider at top enabling easy removal of the bag for disposal. Ships in a large box with nothing to keep it from bouncing around so it arrives a little worn on outside plastic.

Our building just began composting as of April 1st here in NYC. We don’t have a lot of kitchen space but this is the most PERFECT little compost bin for our situation. It actually holds a good amount for us and it’s so easy to use and convenient to take out to the compost bin in front of our building. Living in NYC, our building now has very strict composting protocols and our building (yes, building, not only the city) is imposing fines on people incorrectly disposing of garbage. So despite living in an apartment, we have had to adapt to storing biodegradable waste. Despite frustration and fury at the prospect, I bought the larger of these two containers and can't say enough good things about it. I love the size, the lid, the capacity, the material it's made of, the handle - the list goes on. It's perfect for city living. It's easily washable, no odors in the kitchen. There isn't a single thing I don't like about this product. As much as I dreaded adapting to it, segregating bio/wet waste has become a breeze. Thank you to the previous posters who recommended buying the larger of the two sizes because in terms of counter space it's not much difference and the larger size is just right.

I’ve had this .75 gallon compost bucket for 18 months, and it’s used daily. I never throw food into my trash. The bucket still looks like new. The lid will stay in an adjustable open position while using it. The lid does not have a snap seal, but it does close so that flies can’t get in. The lid also can be removed when it’s time to wash the bucket. The size is just right for me. It’s usually full in about four to five days, and has a sturdy handle for carrying out to the compost pile. And most importantly, the bucket has not absorbed any odors. I’m very happy with this product.

So far I like this compost bin. It’s much nicer/sturdier than the flimsy medal one we previously had and doesn’t seem to retain smells. The oblong shape actually makes it easier to scrape scraps into it from my cutting board. My compostable bags that came with my medal bucket don’t fit here so I reuse the plastic bags from the grocery produce isle but could go bag less and wash the bin. I like that the lid stays attached and the weight is balanced so it doesn’t tip the bin when you open it. It will also hold more than my medal bucket and it will wash nicely when needed. Very pleased so far!
