So far I love it but I've only used it once to see how long it took and make sure the light and automatic shut-off was working properly. Both worked wonderfully, lights up while it's on and shuts off when it's done. At max capacity with cold tap water it took approximately 10 minutes to boil. This is not maintaining a bubbling, rolling, overflowing boil, in case someone for some reason expects that, but it is and it's perfect for my uses(reg and loose leaf tea and the occasional instant soup). To clarify it does bubble up for those of you who may not know how these kettles work that is what triggers the shut-off so it then goes back to its resting state. The handle remains cool enough so no danger there, the body of it is decently hot though as is to be expected. Currently it has been shut off for 14 minutes and is still steaming. The way I drink tea I could easily drink a cup and still have enough hot water for another which is kind of awesome. Cons: The plastic is obviously a little cheap feeling as a few others have mentioned. This is really inconsequential to me as the price is low enough I would expect Something to be on the cheaper and I'd rather it be that than say the heating element. It's still decently think and so far appears to distribute or not distribute heat as it should, so not a big deal. As a side note is also still looks fairly nice. Cleaning. Okay so these things are kind of always a bitch to clean. For this one the mouth is fairly small so it was a bit difficult to get my hand down in it to wipe it out(and I am a fairly small woman). Again, a lot of these electric kettles have this issue so to be expected. The kettle cannot be submerged so the outside just needs to be wiped down with a damp cloth or sponge and if any soap is used make sure the soap is cleaned off and it's completely dry before use. Now for the little filter. None of my old kettles have this so it's a new, kind of cool little feature for me. There's nothing really telling you how to remove it or replace it so I had to mess with it a little to figure it out and with the cheap plastic I was a little scared to do so. Was also kind of annoying with the small opening trying to see and feel but it slides out with a little pressure and then you slide it in and pop it back into place so pretty simple once I figured it out. The chord. So the chord is reallyy short. Like you should probably just put it right in front of the plug in. This is probably the most annoying con for me cause the spot I had is really right next to the plug in but still far enough away that it barely reached and my kettle is practically against the next item on my counter. I did plan on getting a strip for that outlet so I'll make it work but was still a bit frustrating. So prepare to have it directly in front of a plug in if you keep it on your counter. Packaging. Okay so I noticed others mention this in reviews and was worried about it but mine showed up all in one piece undamaged. BUT I can see where the concern comes from. It is packaged in a plastic bag inside a box inside your standard Amazon so no not a lot of cushion going on if the handlers were too rough I could easily see it showing up damaged. Side-note: now at nearly 30 minutes and still steaming so that's pretty awesome for a ten minute heating time. Otherwise everything looks good I'm giving 5 stars as none of my cons are more than minor inconveniences I mostly expected and don't really differ from anything in the listing. This works great and heats up water fast. If I'm boiling water to cook I'll use this as a head start instead of waiting ten minutes for my stove to slowly heat up water in a pan. I love that it lights up from the inside when on, it shuts off for safety when it hits boil, and is cool to the touch and can be carried elsewhere and rest on a surface to stand by. It's also great to carry into the bathroom when I'm unclogging my sink and want to pour boiling water down to clear it. My only note: there's a mesh filter on the spout to catch debris which is a good thing. But if you are just wanting to dump water out that's still hot, or get impatient while pouring and tilt the kettle too far, the filter impedes the water stream and it can splatter unpredictably. It's possible to pop the lid and dump it out that way quickly over the sink, but there's no way to empty the kettle quickly and accurately using the spout if I'm trying to fill a stock pot for pasta with just-boiled water; you must patiently tip and pour a delicate stream like you would for tea which takes about 30 seconds when full. I think the spout filter can be removed but I still think if you pour too fast it might seep from the lid. ... show more

No frills and thrills. It does what it’s supposed to do. Heats water. Temperature is hot enough for my personal preference. It automatically shuts off when it’s done. Looks nice aesthetically. My biggest con ,I wish the cord was longer.

This electric kettle is exactly as advertised. Straight out of the box, it is already superior to my old glass kettle in durability and ease of cleaning. I can easily lift it even after 4 surgeries on my dominant hand. The only thing that is different in functionality is it has only 1 temperature for the boiled water, 160°F; other than having to wait longer to enjoy my drink, it works just as fast as the old kettle. This is a good electric tea kettle for being so cheap, but you (me) do get what you pay for. The water volume this holds is good, quickness to bringing water to a boil is good, look good but if I may offer a few suggestions for improvement (just my opinion),. . . 1. I thought the electric cord could have been a little longer. 2. The lid opening is too small. Big enough for pouring in water, but not big enough to put my hand in for a quick wash. 3. I thought the on/off switch could be better with a LED indicator that lights up on the switch to show that the unit was on. But for all the short comings, I think it's a good buy for the value. I've only used it for only two days as of writing this review, so not sure of the longevity but if it'll last a couple or few years, I'd think this is well worth the price. (I only paid $12 so I really can't complain) ... show more
