Style: Propane Gas Fire Pit
This thing is pretty great. I went back and forth on this and a Solo Stove Bonfire. There’s not much substitute for a real wood fire. They smell good, they sound good, they look good... But they also require wood, and time, they burn out on their schedule, not yours, and ultimately you end up smelling like campfire, with an ashy mess on your hands. I decided clean, odorless, on-demand fire that turns off when I’m ready for it to be off was enough to tip the scales. So I started looking more and more at Outland Firebowls. We’re not RVers, and really not much into camping, so I just needed something that would work on our patio. I initially settled on the Mega Fire Pit, but then I noticed the Helios burner on the Cypress. Glad I did. It’s slightly smaller diameter, a little bit lower profile, and just a little more wheel-without-a-tire looking, but holy cow what a flame. It’s nearly as nice to look at as a real log fire. And it gets HOT. Anyone who complains about this not radiating enough heat is crazy. Medium heat is almost too hot to sit close to. High will melt your face like a Dimebag Daryl guitar solo. It does take a few minutes to heat the lava rocks to glowing red, but they definitely get there. The long hose makes it easy to stash the propane tank out of the way. I thought about getting the tank cover, but I probably won’t now that I have it set up with the tank hidden behind an Adirondack chair. Your set up will almost certainly vary, but I view the tank cover as completely unnecessary for mine. Set up is a breeze: take everything out of the box, put the rocks in the bowl per the instructions (medium size first, large on top), attach the hose to your fuel source, and you’re ready to go. I haven’t run it long enough to burn through a whole tank of fuel, but the fact that I was able to run it for two hours and then come into the house without worrying about what to do with burning logs pays for itself. And when you price propane against firewood (assuming you don’t just have a bunch lying around) the economics just work. This is very sturdy and well made. I anticipate many years of enjoyment as long as I keep it out of the weather. But with the included cover, it seems like it’s probably fine to withstand the occasional summer storm. I’m very pleased with my purchase. I can’t imagine any reason you wouldn’t be too. Unless you really just want a wood fire. [Pictures show the flame at various settings, from high to medium, to almost off. The video is just because slo-mo flames are cool.]

This is a review for the Outland 863 Cypress portable outdoor firebowl. I bought this for RV camping, to give up on the mess and hassle of firewood. There is so much more to gain than just the tradeoff in weight and bulk of bringing (taboo) firewood. The social gathering and meal around the evening fire is just such a tradition and pinnacle important aspect of camping. Burning gas seemed at first like such sacrilege! I will admit I was stubborn at first, with a heavy bias for the tradition of burning wood fires for so long. But with age comes wisdom. I am now a believer. PRO’s: This model is a very low profile design. It looks great and plenty of heat. There is no smoke. Way more convenient than wood fires. Takes up less space than with wood. Portability- not a “fixed” fire pit. No axe, shovel, paper, kindling, or fire-starters needed. Less mess- nothing to sweep, clean up, or ashes to empty. Instant gratification- Light it, and the fire is ready Enjoy a fire even when it rains -underneath the side awning of the RV, or a pop-up or whatever. Safer. Less risk of starting a forest fire. (Smokey is dancing the jig!) Turn it off and go to bed- no more worries about leaving a fire burning overnight, or when you leave campsite. More environmentally friendly than burning wood (less carbon). …and if you still want to burn a wood fire also, Hey! There’s nothing stopping you from still doing that too! The Cypress 21 Firebowl won’t get jealous! Cons: (Not really cons- but rather my additional comments) • Propane costs money. I have a nearly unlimited supply of firewood available to me. (Not the firebowls fault.) • I wish the hose was little longer. I use an extension hose with quick couplers. (Optional- see below) • As-built, the firebowl hose with regulator is only designed to connect to an independent propane tank. For my use, I put together another hose kit with quick couplers for the option to run off my RV propane supply line (for a bbq) as well. (optional- See below) • It’s not a fire that is meant/rated to cook over -although nothing is stopping you from roasting marshmallows or whatever. It would seem this could be rated, designed and meet the additional criteria as a cooking appliance as well with minimal agency approval (CSA/AM Z21.58). I think the manufacture has opportunities for additional accessories: cooking grates, griddles, roasting skewers, rotisseries, etc. (recommendation) I am the one that asked the question (in the question section above) what the PSI of the regulator is. I wanted to run off the gas line on my RV. I received the answer directly from customer service FMI Brands Inc.: The hose inlet connection is the standard QCC-POL type connection for 20#LP cylinders and the LP gas regulator is low-pressure 2.74kPA (11"WC). Our LP gas hose has a 5/8-18UNF threaded female outlet coupling (connection to Firebowl gas valve). The Outland Living Firebowls are CSA Approved to be used with the hose and regulator provided with our units as we have tested and certified this product using the low-pressure regulator. The regulator cannot be disconnected from the hose as it is one piece, however, the hose with the regulator can be removed from the Firebowl unit. To do so, remove the black shrink surrounding the coupling of the Firebowl gas valve connected to the hose and then proceed to untighten this connection. We do not have a quick-connect option at this time, however, if you are interested in this modification, we highly recommend reaching out to a professional gas fitter or propane technician to ensure the safety standards are met for this modification. Use the thread sealant or tape only on the pipe threads- not on the flare fittings! Tighten and check for leaks. You will likely need to use the 12’ extension hose between the firebowl and an RV depending on the how long your RV gas hose is. It will even come in handy if running off a propane cylinder as well. I hope this review helps others. Not only with additional information, but confidence this is the right fire bowl for you.

Initially I was looking into the "tub" type firepits that use wood. It's been a while since we had a real firepit, and decided to try one of those because they advertise that they are "smokeless" and seemed to be less messy than the real fire pits we used to use. After getting one of those and trying it, it made me remember why we no longer have a real firepit. Although those newer tub type firepits do have less smoke, they are not smokeless, we still smelled like smoke after. The heat from these type of pits really didn't feel warm to us, it was just going up into the sky. Also, the fire really didn't last very long with a flame, but the heat and charcoals were on for hours afterwards, even when we were done and wanted to go back inside. Plus the fact that it ate up a lot of wood which had to be cut to size to fit inside, we decided to return that type of firepit. After much research and review reading, it seem like this one was worth a try. Wow, we are so glad we did get this one! This thing is exactly what we were looking for, a Real Flame, Tons of Heat, no smoke smell, no wood to store and cut, turn on and off when we want it, and very portable to be used in front driveway or backyard/deck of our home (or take with in the SUV for away fires). We keep it in garage when not in use, or on our covered lower deck when not in use The packaging was so well done, and yet easy to set up. It comes with an ingenious cover with strap to make this a one handed portable unit, yet big enough to look and act like a real fire. Yes, it uses propane tanks, but I always have 3 on hand for our grills and other uses. Even with the cost of propane it seems like it will cost so much less to use than wood, and the convivence of this unit is beyond that cost IMO. We got this on a great sale deal, but knowing now how much we like it, I would definitely buy it even not on sale. Perfect for our uses. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

With the west coast being really dry this year, i bought a gas firepit for camping just incase of fire restrictions. The pit itself is really nice. The only thing i can knock about it is, the lava rocks put out a lot of dust and the design in the side of the pit allows the dust to fall out while its being transported. To fix this, I bought a travel bag for it. They are about $25 but it keeps the dust off everything. It does come with a lid and a carry strap for the pit which holds really good. It does not have an igniter so you have to light it with matches or a long lighter. It gets pretty warm but burns propane up fairly quick, even with a 20lb. Tank. Even with all this said, i still think this is a well built good product and should last a long time

Some friends showed up to a camp-out with one of these fire pits. We were in a place where open fires were prohibited, and I thought it was cheesy. Then they fired it up and we gathered around it and late into the night. Bliss! Not having waves of smoke hitting you in the face is worth the price of admission! Not smelling like smoke when you finally retire to bed and for the rest of your trip makes it a real value! A single propane tank, which takes as much space as a single bundle of wood, will burn 10x as long for a fraction of the price and emit no carbon in the atmosphere. No risk of embers burning holes in your clothes and chairs or setting the forest on fire, and when you are ready to go to bed, you don't have to worry about finding enough water to fully extinguish the fire. Just turn the knob and go to bed. The lava rocks are incredibly light, so you can arrange them how you like, put the lid and carry strap on it, and lug it around with one arm. It takes about 10 minutes for the rocks to heat up, so initially it doesn't feel like the propane flames put out that much heat. But once the rocks are heated, it puts out plenty of heat for 4 or 5 people to enjoy. You can huddle in closely to it and stay in that one spot, because the fire intensity doesn't change unless you want it to, and you don't have to constantly be relocating your chair to avoid the smoke. It takes about 10 or 15 minutes to cool down once you've turned it off, and then you can pack it away. You can cook marshmallows and hotdogs on sticks, but I wouldn't recommend making a mess of it with anything greasy. It's a nice looking stove that sits low to the ground. The innovative propane piping in this unit disperses the flame evenly, so the flames look nice and natural. Cheaper units that have a single metal ring don't look nearly as nice. It's worth the extra money to get this one. We bought the fully-enclosed carry tote for it, which protects it in the trailer and keeps fire dust from getting all over our other gear when transporting, and it was worth the extra investment. We put it out on our front patio at sunset, set up some chairs right outside our daughter's bedroom window where she hides out with the phone glued to her face. She actually put down her phone, came outside in the cold, and spent 2 hours just visiting with us. A good social fire circle is one of the only things that can break the social media spell that's destroying the world.

Its a nice low profile design and came with enough lava rocks with more to spare. Its Helios burner creates a aesthetically pleasing flame. I used it on my wooden deck on a medium-high flame setting and underneath never became even warm to make me concerned of heat damage. I still used a heat resistant pad underneath out of abundance of caution. That is one thing I think should come with the product, just like the gas tank ring does. The only other thing that I would have liked to be able to purchase as an option is a heat deflector shield to help radiate heat out to the sides like the solo heaters offer, but overall a good purchase. It's also a nice piece of mind to not having to worry about hot embers or sparks flying out and catching fire. For people who don't want the hassle of gathering and burning wood and the cleanup after. I bought a 30lb tank and have used it for 3 hours at a time multiple times and it's been extremely efficient with gas consumption.

Style: Propane Gas Fire Pit
I grew up with wood heat in our house and have always burned wood when camping or having a bonfire on the beach but those days are over. I've always had the "post fire regret" of everyone smelling like campfire and having to wash clothes multiple times to get the smoke smell out of them. After seeing lots of folks have different versions of this product I decided to give a propane fire a try to avoid the smell and all the work it takes to gather and chop firewood. I was also excited to avoid how expensive it is to buy a bundle of firewood these days. I had been seeing a lot of restrictions on bringing firewood from home or out of the area to State & Federal parks, frequently these type of recreation areas are now requiring you to buy your wood locally to reduce the spread of invasive bugs / pests and disease. After researching lots of different options and configurations I decided to roll the dice on this unit and was very pleased with it when it arrived via Amazon next day shipping. It feels fairly durable and after several uses I think with proper care and maintenance it will last for several seasons. The variable flame control gives you the ability to have a very wide range of flame and heat output. On the high setting, this thing will put out a lot of heat and warm a large group of people sitting around it. Important to note though, on the highest output setting it does consume a lot of fuel so I'd recommend making sure you have plenty of gas for your other needs especially if your RV uses gas for multiple purposes like mine. The one drawback I found with this unit was the storage and portability. It comes with a great topper that securely attaches to the top keeping the rocks / heating stones in place and also has a handy carry handle built into the top / center of the strap. What that doesn't do though is keep the small particles and dust from dropping through the bottom. I had to store and transport this unit under the table in my RV and had a bunch of stuff to clean up after driving several hundred miles. While I solved this by wrapping it in a beach towel the next trip, I would prefer to have a bag to store it in to keep this from making any messes. Overall, I'm very pleased with the quality and performance of this product. I don't see myself having many wood fires in the future and my family all loved having this to sit around and stay warm on cold nights when we stayed close to the ocean. I'd highly recommend you give this a try if you haven't used something like this before or are looking to replace one.

I couldn’t ask for a better portable fire pit. We needed one using propane due to the strict fire pit laws on our campsite in Tahoe. When we got there we saw they were selling the very same ones at the store on the campsite for a much more expensive price. Really happy we bought this before hand and it arrived just in time. It’s perfect! Was able to keep my husband and I and our three children all warm sitting around the fire together. So warm we even backed up a few times because we were nice and toasty. It comes with a cover and handle to carry. Almost no assembly is required, aside from placing the rocks in. I’m very picky and have high expectations. This product did not disappoint.
