I am using this product at home and it is only being used on one person - me. Clipper is as described. Heavier duty than I need but certainly does the job. It is hefty and there is no doubt it is a professional grade unit not a "consumer" device that will break or fail in a year or two. I probably could have got by with a cheaper device but this one sure is nice. As some others have said - Cadillac Quality. It takes a few tries to get used to holding the clipper correctly to take care of the whole head, especially while doing the back of the head, but it is not difficult. My wife would have done it for me but my goal was to simplify and speed up the hair-cutting process so that means doing it myself. The cord is stiffer than some electrical cords but that is also something I got used to - have to kind of deal with the stiff cord with one hand and run the clipper with the other - and I take that overbuilt quality to mean that the whole unit is tough and will last a long time - heavy duty cord, heavy duty motor and sharp, professional heavy metal cutting blade. I use the #1 size blade. The motor is plenty strong; it does not slow down even a little when in use on my head. I use the clipper about 2 - 3 times a week before I get in the shower to maintain a uniform appearance. It only takes about 2 minutes each time. The clipper does not begin to get hot in that amount of time. Heat is not a problem at all for me. Maybe it would be in continuous, professional use. I only mention that because it is the one complaint I was aware of before I got mine. I am saving money on haircuts and I am saving time by doing it all at home without driving or making an appointment or having to wait for my stylist to be available. It is possible that I will buy a rechargeable battery-powered unit for convenience but that is not at all a criticism of this unit. I had never held one of these or had this kind of all-clipper haircut before I bought this one so it was the fact that there were some unknowns that maybe held me back from buying it - didn't want to waste $120 on an unknown product. I sincerely wish now I had bought it 10 years ago. "Haircuts" by this method are now so quick and easy I don't even think about and I guess I am saving more than the cost of the unit every year. If you are putting off the purchase because you are not sure about the quality of the clipper or the ease of use or what you will look like with this kind of "haircut," just go ahead and get it. I looked at several other brands, including Andis, Wahl and Panasonic and several other models in this brand and went with this because it seemed to be a middle-of-the-road standard kind of unit that I could probably sell if I didn't like it. It turns out I didn't need interchangeable blades but I didn't know at the time which blade I would need. I exercise and perspire and this kind of haircut is the easiest and quickest for cleaning up and taking care of after exercise. I also like looking pretty much the same all the time as far as the length of my hair. I never go around looking like I need a haircut.

I've been clipper cutting my own hair for over 15 years now, and I used these Oster Classic 76 for over two years. I really like the Classic 76 and highly recommend it. It has a lot of power and cuts hair easily, and it's an outstanding clipper. The detachable metal blades are much more comfortable to me than the plastic guides that you can buy, too. However...it's not perfect. It runs a bit hot and can be loud, and it's not a small set of clippers. The newer A6 (marketed for pet grooming, but great for human hair) is slimmer, quieter, and cooler running. There are already many, many review for the Classic 76. Like I said already, it's a great set of clippers. I'd just like to give you some info about the A6 to maybe help you choose between them. After getting the A6, I stopped using the 76. Some things that stood out to me after getting the A6 and comparing it to the Classic 76: (*) The A6 is a more rounded shape, but it's not that much smaller than the Classic 76. Holding them felt about the same to me, with the A6 being just a little easier (*) The cord on the A6 is nice and long, but Oster added a transformer box that hangs about a foot away from the outlet. That box will be well out of the way if you use this professionally, though (*) The A6 has three speeds versus one speed on my 76 (*) The A6 is quieter on low and medium speeds, but it's about the same as the 76 on high speed. It is a lower pitch, though, which I happen to prefer. It's a bit less abrasive to me (*) The A6 does not vent air out the sides - which is excellent! The 76 cools the motor by flowing air from the base to two vents on the sides, and the warm air blows on me (or your clients) while clipping (*) The A6 does run cooler on the handle. After using it for a good 20 minutes, the handle wasn't even warm. The blade sure was, but that's no different than my experience with the 76 (and why I bought some of Oster's cooling spray) (*) The A6 requires you to depress a button before the blade will swing out - that's nice. I've never had a blade swing out accidentally on my 76, but I can imagine a clipper getting bumped during professional use, so the added locking mechanism is a nice addition (*) The A6 seems to vibrate a bit more in my hand than the 76, but I think it's that it vibrates at a different frequency (similar to the sound). It's definitely not so bad that I don't want to use it, but it is noticeable (*) The A6 doesn't require (or really allow) you to periodically replace grease. As a non-professional user, I like that. The 76 might hold up better over a long period of time because you can do maintenance on it, but I like the thought of not having to put in new grease - and I have on mine, even just using it every other week or so on myself The A6 doesn't seem to cut any better or worse than the Classic 76, but the cooler handle and the (to me) more enjoyable noise level give it the edge. I think both models are great clippers. To me, the lower pitch noise, cooler running handle, added button for blade release, and no need to grease it put the A6 a bit ahead of the Classic 76 to me - but not so far that I'd highly recommend one model over the other. Honestly, I don't think that you'd go wrong with either model.

I am a non-professional and have been cutting my own hair for about 4 months now. Previously I have been going to a barber a buzz cut (#2 usually or one higher) for about 5 years now & figured I could save some money doing it myself. I started out using the "Wahl Elite Pro High Performance Haircut Kit" which I purchased at a local store. Then I purchased the "Oster Classic 76" on Amazon. This will be a lengthy review but I will give you my in depth personal experience with both and why I switched to the Oster 76. Wahl Elite Pro High Performance Haircut Kit review: This is a pretty good kit & I was satisfied for my first couple hair cuts but then I started to notice that it was missing hairs. I thoroughly go over all sections of my head but for some reason it seemed to miss some hairs. Not all that many but it started to get pretty annoying. I would notice them on the sides of my head looking in the mirror for example and would end up getting some scissors to snip them as they were noticeably longer. There really weren't that many so I wasn't too concerned at first. For the life of me, even as a non-professional, I'm not sure why it seemed to miss some after so many passes. This kit was decent as I got it for sub $50 and it came with an entire set of plastic attachable combs. I also have a cowlick that seemed to get left a little longer than the rest of my hair too! I tried cutting it from all directions, using a comb to try to pull back the hair with the clippers following, etc. As I mentioned I am no professional, but I don't think a buzz cut is rocket science either. In addition I found these clippers hard to get close around my ears. I think it's due to the fact that it uses plastic attachable blades (aka combs). They are somewhat bulky attachments and the plastic comb sticks out to the sides of the actual razor because it's a clip on attachment. I think this extra width that's added to the razor by using an attachable plastic comb makes it just that much more difficult to get around the ears closely. I was having to (carefully) go back later and cut around my ears without any guard (comb) on because I wasn't able to get hair closely around my ears with this razor. Which although I have a steady hand, as a non-professional, I prefer to avoid having to cut without any guard on, for obvious reasons. Seeing as this is a kit it also came with some blade oil...but the small blade oil plastic bottle always leaks! This comes with a carrying case to hold everything (which is nice) and if the bottle isn't standing upright it will leak (if on it's side for example) even though it has a screw on cap. At the end of the day these clippers gave me a decent cut but it just wasn't quite as nice as what I received from a barber. However, through using these I decided that I really enjoyed giving myself my own hair cuts and decided to invest in a more quality pair of clippers. Oster Classic 76 review: After my experience with the Wahl kit I decided to try investing in a more professional grade pair of clippers and did a decent amount of research on different clipper options before opting for this. I ordered the Oster 76 and a #2 blade (this only comes with a couple really short blades). This clipper by far (personally) gave me a far better hair cut on the first time that I ever got while using the Wahl kit. I didn't notice any of the longer hairs that seemed to get missed with my Wahl razor. In addition, the cowlick that I have on the front of my head that seemed to not get cut well previously cut nicely just like every other portion of my hair with this razor! As I mentioned in my Wahl review, the plastic comb attachments in that kit are what I believe made it more difficult to get around my ears since they are a bulky attachment. To be fair, and as a disclaimer, I did not try metal blade attachments with the Wahl razor (would have to purchase seperate) so they might be more comparable to the Oster blades. I used the #2 replacement blade and I believe having no bulky comb attachment on top of the razor lets me get real close to my ears. I did not even have to go back later and trim around my ears! As I mentioned, I think this is more of the difference between using a metal replacement blade compared to a bulky plastic comb attachment. Like the Wahl kit this comes with some included blade oil. Thankfully, the included blade oil container does not leak! These clippers do not come with a case to store them in though which will be another added expense when I find one, it was nice that the Wahl set had that, but that was more of a "kit" compared to this. A downside to this razor is it's a little expensive, especially if you're purchasing addition blades! The razor itself was over twice as much as the Wahl kit I tried. Then I purchased an additional blade, and plan to purchase one more, plus some extra blade oil, and some wash. It will probably end up running me $200 after tax and everything to get a couple extra blades and accessories, and that's not including a case. So seeing as I paid about $20 for a haircut (once a month) I could see this paying itself off in less than a year. But now that I cut my own hair, I do it every two weeks, so I guess it's definitely getting it's moneys worth. Conclusion: Although I've had these clippers for less than a month and have only used them a couple of times I hope that they last a really long time as I have heard many people say they do, but I cannot speak personally for their longevity. Oster has some videos on YouTube which describe maintenance which were helpful. In addition some tips they suggest like attaching the blades while the razor is running(which I wouldn't have thought of). So if you're a non-professional I would suggest looking up a few of their videos. My conclusion would be this: The Wahl clippers gave me a hair cut that was pretty good and for about $40 it's a pretty good bargain for everything it comes with. But the Oster clippers have allowed me to give myself a more satisfying hair cut, and I currently do not have any complaints about the razor whatsoever besides the cost, but I do not mind paying for quality, especially since I plan to continue cutting my own hair in the future. I looked myself over in the mirror after giving myself a cut (as a non-professional) and feel like I just went to the barber. I am very satisfied with these clippers and have already recommended them to many of my friends who also cut their own hair too. 5 stars.

I've been cutting my own hair for... 15 years. Every so often I'll go to the barber, but by and large I just do it myself. I've had my fair share of clippers, but the problem is that all of them would struggle to trim my relatively thick hair and would get jammed up, and they all broke down and became unreliable. If you're reading this, perhaps that's your experience too and you're looking for a real clipper, something like a barber would actually use. And that's what you get with an Oster Classic 76, a professional style clipper that's relatively reasonable to buy for home use. I can take this and in one motion trim hair from my front hairline all the way back with no hiccups and a clean trim. And that's because there's a real motor in this thing, and when you turn it on you're realize that. It's got a hefty buzz to it when on and a good rumble. Now, of course there are some caveats to a professional grade trimmer for home use, when using it on yourself. I've used this for almost a year now with regular trims. It's heavy compared to the typical home use clippers, large, and somewhat awkward to hold and trim your own hair. It's in no way ergonomic to use on yourself. There are exhaust ports on the backside of the unit right below where the black Oster plaque is on the front that you shouldn't cover with your hand. Even if you don't cover the exhaust port, if you use it for extended periods of time, 5-10+ minutes, it gets a bit warm. Not hot, but warm. More caveats, you need to buy individual clipper heads for the length you want. This can get costly if you require multiple lengths for fades and whatnot. I'm pretty simple and do straightforward buzz cuts in the summer to alleviate some heat from the summer Arizona heat, and already knew approximately what length I wanted so I only had to buy one head. The one that comes with it is REALLY short, like short enough to shave with short. Also, this really isn't an edging trimmer, so you will probably want to get one independent from this for clean lines. I've been using the same trimmer I shave my beard with, but eventually I'll get an actual line trimmer. All those caveats and still 4 stars? Yes. Because it reliably trims my hair, and all that it asks is for a little cleaning between trims. It doesn't get jammed, it doesn't get snagged and pull my hair, just easily and cleanly trims it. That's what I wanted and that's what I got. This thing seems built to last, and has been going strong for a year with no degradation in performance. If you're looking to trim other people's hair, like your son or something, this would be a 5 star product in my opinion. It would be much more ergonomic to use on somebody else... and when you think about the cost... sure it's expensive for a pair of clippers but it'll easily pay for itself in a year or less and it's all savings from there. If you're a person that likes to really stay trimmed up, it could pay for itself in a few months, and you could trim as often as you want. I typically trim every couple weeks in the summer and it's nice to reach for these clippers knowing it's not going to be a hassle and that they will work. Well worth the investment! 6/29/14 UPDATE - Still working perfectly! For a guy who has been cutting his own hair for this long, I really wished I would have splurged for this much sooner. There has been no degradation of performance. 10/19/17 UPDATE - Still working perfect!

These are extremely powerful, smooth/ even cutting and never bog on hang up. No matter how course or thick or wet the hair is. They tend to warm up a bit after 10 minutes of use but not to the point that they are uncomfortable to hold or touch the blade to bare skin. Some people complain that they get so hot that you can't hold on to them, that's all false. They do get warmer than some other clippers (which also get warm) but not by much and certainly nothing to worry about. Maintenance is KEY with these clippers. All of the maintenance can be done yourself in under 2 minutes and only needs to be done 2 or 3 times a year in a busy shop. It's not that big a deal. In a home use type situation I bet they won't need to be greased more than every few years (remember it takes 2 minutes with a simple screwdriver) The ones I just purchased are replacing a pair that fell out of my truck during a move. I had That clipper for nearly 20 years and that needed only minor maintenance and about $17 worth of parts (parts are available all over the web). They were going strong all that time. As the saying goes, buy once cry once. I don't know of ANY barber shop who doesn't have a 76 on their table. There is a reason that these are the clippers used to judge all other clippers by. You won't find a more powerful and long lasting setup anywhere (but plenty are quieter than these). Next time you are in the barber shop listen for one running (they sound like no other clipper) ask him how long he's had them. I know of a pair used multiple times a day in a fairly busy shop that are over 20 years old.

Product arrived 05/16/2020. Used first time 05/18 worked great. Second use 07/17 product died in the middle of use. Had to go to a local drugstore and buy a different set of clippers and shave my head to just make due. Contacted seller and got "Hi, how are you? I do apologize for that matter, but we checked the customer's order details and we found out that it was purchased two months ago and please keep in mind that our return policy is only up to 30 days and we can't neither replace nor refund your money. What you can do is to contact the manufacturer so they can fix it for you or you can fill up the form that came with the unit inside of the box and mail it to the manufacturer because it's still under their warranty. Thank you". Contacted the customer service (outsourced overseas) which had such poor sound quality that was frustrating for me and the other person on the line that everything had to be repeated four times. The phone call took almost one hour. I got a case number and sent unit for repair (of which I paid shipping). It took almost a month to get a repair back. I received the replacement unit yesterday and haven't tried it yet. The repaired unit that I received was not my essentially new device. What I got back was a unit that clearly had significantly more usage than the one I sent to them. The unit sent back to me was covered in lubricating oil including the power cord. My manufacturer box I sent to them looked like a used pizza box upon return due to everything being covered in lubrication oil. The replacement clippers also had not been cleaned as there was ample hair from previous usages. I paid up for a good/new set of clippers and in the end got a cheaper manufacturer refurbished unit. If I wanted a factory second unit I would have saved a lot of money looking for a factory second/refurbished unit and it would most likely have been cleaned better. I truly feel disappointed with this purchase and feel I definitely overpaid for what I got.
