The press is strong and has several adapters but it doesn’t work on u joints for the axles on a 05 F250, the hole in the press is too small for the caps to fit through.

Until I purchased this tool I have just borrowed them, which you can do at most major auto parts stores for free - well as long as you are making some kind of purchase. I have done a lot of front end work and will probably do more so decided to just get my own tool. This one is very similar to the ones I have borrowed although a bit smaller, meaning a few less adapters. But for my 2010 F150 it had what I needed and would have been fine with the other 20 or so jobs I have done over my lifetime. It's well made with solid components including the heavy duty press and should work well for most applications. Comes in a nice form fitting case so you'll know if a part is missing. I can definitely recommend this for someone who plans to do a lot of front end work in the future. But if it's just for one job, I recommend renting one. That said, there are a few "tricks" to using one of these and probably making is a bit of a challenge for someone not accustom to removing and replacing ball joints. If it's your first time using one of these here are a few tips. For one, these tools are much better and made more for installing ball joints than removing them. If you are using it to remove a ball joint make sure to remove the snap ring (if there is one) and spray the joint well with penetrating oil. I recommend doing this a few hours before starting the removal if not overnight. Also, before using the tool to remove the ball joint, use a small but heavy hammer first. Brace up the arm so there is no give and give it a few good wacks, then spray it again. You won't hurt the frame so don't worry about that. Just make sure to hit the joint flat so as not to make a dent near the edge which might cause a hang up. Repeat this a few times and you might be surprised that it comes out just doing this versus trying to press it out. I have hammered out more than I have pressed out by a wide margin. At the very least it will loosen it up a bit before you use the press. If you do need to press it out, stop now and then as you tighten it down and give it a few more wacks with the hammer. If it's real stubborn, you might need to apply a little heat to the frame - not the ball joint. Again, you won't hurt anything heating it up so get it good and hot. Just keep clear of any rubber bushing or wiring nearby. Use a breaker bar with a socket to apply the needed pressure but noting more than that. If you need to use a pipe to extend the length of the bar to apply more pressure, you could and probably will, bend the tool. You need to be patient, tighten, spray, heat, wack with hammer - repeat. It will come lose. Installing the new ball joint is the tricky part and where most first timers run into trouble. You want to clean the hole out with a wire brush and apply a thin film of grease. Then figure out what combinations of adapter are needed to install the ball joint based on the design. Again though, you should not need anything more than a breaker bar to apply the needed pressure. It is possible for the ball joint to get cocked in the the hole, but pretty unlikely. If the tool is setup properly, the ball joint will pretty much self-center as there is normally a slight tapper. Install the new snap ring and that's it. Hope this helps a little. There are also quite a few You Tube videos on using the tool, although some are not that good so keep these tips in mind. Love ball joint press I give 5 stars , only weak part is install cup adapter inner wall super thin . I had to rent a ball joint set to use a different cup so I press ball joint in . I going to buy new cup sizes for my set . To make it better . Look at pic inner wall weak .

Some of the adapters are thin. Heavy duty ball joints will be to much for them.

Let me start by saying I've been in the automotive repair business my whole life. I needed to replace the ball joints on my 2001 Ram. I was skeptical to order this because of the price but was I surprised! Once the wheels were off it took me 45 minutes to replace upper and lower ball joints on both sides. This is very well built and made child's play out of 20 year old ball joints.

I was having some issues getting the ball joints pressed into the knuckles on my 2005 Civic EX using my vise, so I gave in and ordered this kit despite some of the poor reviews. I really didn't have any issues with it once I figured out that you can't follow the instructions on how to set this up for pressing the ball joints IN to the EM2 (7th gen Civic) knuckles, mainly because it's designed for pressing them into a control arm where you have plenty of room to fit the various adapters. If you look at the diagram showing how to align everything, and try to do it that way, the portion of the knuckle that bolts to the strut will interfere with lining up the C-press, so don't even try it that way. The component in the kit that you're supposed to use to cup the top of the ball joint for pressing it in won't fit over the ball joint because it's too close to the knuckle to align on the ball joint properly, but if you keep the cup and adapter on the bottom like the diagram shows, and then flip the C-press around so that the non-threaded hole is what's pressing the ball joint in, and then use the threaded end to pull the C-press and therefore the ball joint down, it works perfectly that way. Basically, line everything up like the diagram shows. You'll quickly realize the knuckle gets in the way. Now, leave everything exactly like it is, but flip the C-press over so the threaded rod is actually pressing into the adapter on the bottom of the cup below the ball joint. Now, remove the circular adapter from the top of the ball joint (it won't fit anyway) and simply align the hole in the C-press with the top of the ball joint. When you crank on the threaded rod, it'll press into the adapter on the bottom of the cup, pulling itself down and the ball joint with it. This is the only way it'll work with this car, where the ball joint mounts into the knuckle instead of the control arm. All in all, I was hard on this kit. Used an impact because the ball joints I got are knurled and are a complete pain to press in compared to the OEM kind (much tighter fit) and there was just no way I was going to be able to get the leverage I needed to hold the knuckle and muscle the breaker bar around it at the same time. It took some work, but I got both ball joints in without any noticeable damage to the kit. The cups didn't collapse or bend, the C-press didn't break, the threads still look good. I think that most people who are destroying this kit are using it improperly, or perhaps they got a bad kit, no idea. But the materials seem sturdy, seemingly just as well made as the $170 kit I've rented from the auto parts store before. I'm about to do another job on an Accord, where I'll have to pull and press 4 ball joints, so we'll see if it holds up. Fingers crossed.
