  • Easy setup
Model: 5X16 TB-With Raid
Setting up is as easy as inserting the drives and turning it on, as long as you don't care about hardware level RAID. On that note, if you're using this for a NAS like proxmox like I am, you can save some money and just get the model without "R" in the number, which does not come with hardware raid, as you're probably going to want to use ZFS for raid, and leave the hardware raid mode turned off. I appreciate that after around 10-15 minutes of no activity the drives turn off and aren't constantly spinning, which should save a bit of power ... show more

  • Super hard drive unit.
Model: 5X16 TB-With Raid
Bought this item do use has a redundant backup system for my 2012 Mac computer. It was a great investment. Wasn't too costly. I highly recommend this for anyone thinking of using a redundant backup system for all your information on your computer.

  • Excellent
Model: 9548RU3-US
I recently purchased the ORICO 4 Bay External Hard Drive Enclosure USB 3.0 to SATA with RAID Aluminum for 3.5 inches as a photographer and I'm really pleased with it so far. It is great for backing up my photos and video, as well as storing large amounts of data. The aluminum construction makes it quite durable and the USB 3.0 connection is fast and reliable. The only downside that I have noticed is that when it goes into sleep mode, I have to turn it off and then back on in order to access the HHD again. Other than that, I am very happy with this hard drive enclosure and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable external storage solution. ... show more

  • Lasted 2 years
Model: 9548RU3-US
I am getting write i/o errors to my array. I have individually tested all drives, the ram,and the os drive that is servicing this. That means the raid controller is dying. Good thing I backup monthly to offline storage. Remember people RAID IS NOT A BACKUP I got two years out of it. I have harddrives that have lasted longer. Im just going to get a hard drive cage and sata wire up a bunch of drives to an SBC with a pci expansion board for sata. That should be much cheaper, with much greater function, and I wont have to look for another of the same raid controller if the sbc dies. I can just hook the array up to anything. If I didnt have a backup, I would have had to buy another one of these just to recover my data. ... show more

  • RETURNED / Nice quiet JBOD case, but be aware
Model: B07XL2BS53
UPDATE 2/28/2020 I really wanted to keep this enclosure, but I could not find the support I needed. I tried to keep the OS from having the drives sleep with NO success. I tried emailing Orico for technical support with NO success. I replaced this with a "OWC Mercury Elite Pro Quad RAID Ready (JBOD) 4-Bay Storage Enclosure". I called their customer support and spoke to a nice person (Liz) who double-checked with Technical Support that the enclosure would -not- put the HDs to sleep. She verified that since the box was built as a RAID device, as long as the host OS was set to not sleep the drives, the device would continue to poll it for activity. After 3 days of constant use, I can verify that this is true. I need the JBOD enclosure for immediate use for rendering animation as well as near-time access to music, files etc. I really wish Orico will read this feedback and either provide clear instructions on HOW to set this up with their product, or to at least respond to their emails. -------- First off, be careful making your purchase... there are lots of pictures attached to the Orico listing, but they represent DIFFERENT models. I did not need a RAID box, but a simpler JBOD one. Confirm your needs with the right picture! This replaces a 6 yr old Silverstone/Teratrend JBOD box that died suddenly (RIP). In comparison, this Orico JBOD box is slightly shorter but just as quiet sitting on my desk about 3 ft away from where I sit. My drives transferred to the new case and were recognized by my OS with no issues. I did run into the HD sleep issue that apparently is a "feature" of this drive. Since I use this JBOD for rendering motion graphics/VFX work, there are times where a single rendered frame can take up to 15-20mins to process; I can't have the disks sleep at all. Since I run a Mac, I used these two things to disable the sleep function: 1. in Terminal, type: sudo pmset -c spindown 0 this forces the OS to bypass all sleep settings in Preferences. Orico -may- have a firmware disable patch, but I haven't reached out to them yet for it. 2. in Apple Store, find the free application "Amphetamine". This app can keep your drives from going to sleep on a time schedule; mine is set to poll my drives every 9 mins. I've run this JBOD case for about a week now with no issues. I also had to place black tape with pinholes to cover the blue LEDs on the front of the case; I have a package of LightDim stickers somewhere I'll have to find again. But so far, the enclosure is working with no issues.. just the way it should! ... show more
