The Orbit 58288 3-Arm High-Rise Sprinkler has been a fantastic addition to my lawn care routine! Reliable Sprinkler with Great Coverage

The three-arm design provides good, even coverage, and it was easy to set up and use. Great for low pressure but check your model

I've had a couple of these mainly you can't lift them from the top or they tend to break you need to lift from the base right out of the grass you also have to be careful when you push them into the grass that the ground isn't too hard or you can bend the spike. Keep in mind there are two models that I've seen I have one and maybe it's a different brand but it is not a very heavy duty spinner at the top, I don't think it's a brass some other metal that's much lighter but actually ironically the lighter metal is better for me because I have a very low pressure well that pushes water up into my sprinklers and it won't spin the heavier brass fitting but with the lighter metal one it does so if you really have a low pressure situation you may want to get the slightly lower end model. Also I have left these on my hose longterm and had them weld onto the fittings so you may want to use some Teflon tape or something so that this does not weld closed(or simply take them off regularly) I've had to cut my hose and use a repair fitting. Overall though for my low pressure situation this is the best and really only option

Great "light rain" sprinkler; just not as tall as it looked.

Three main points: First, I bought both the Melnor and the Orbit rotating-head telescoping-arm sprinklers to compare them. I strongly prefer the Orbit model because it provides a more-uniformly-finer droplets of "rain" that distributes the water much more evenly than the Melnor Telescoping model. The Melnor model throws water mostly sideways in streams from the ends of each rotating spout that end up as large drops. It then has a finer mist coming out of the center pole if the spinning head. So the Melnor has droplets that are both too large and too small, resulting in most of the water falling in a "ring" where the primary streams are thrown. By contrast, the Orbit model sprays water out of the ends of each rotating arm as well as from notches along the arm and fine nozzles on the rotating center. So instead of streams/large-drops shooting sideways from the ends of each arm and a fine mist coming from the top, all of the droplets are uniformly small, resulting in much more even distribution akin to a light rain through the entire circle-range of the sprinkler. Second, the sprinkler head is well made out of all metal parts (brass sprinkler head) and works well. (The Melnor was well-made, too). Third, the only downside is that although it is marketed as "high rise telescoping" sprinkler, the 40-inch "telescope" barely rises to an adult's hip. The "40-inch" measurement includes the 8-inch spike that buries into the ground. So it is really only 32-inches (2 1/2 feet) "tall" from the top of the foot-plate to the top of the sprinkler head. I bought this sprinkler to replace a telescoping rotating sprinkler that was five feet tall and was the PERFECT sprinkler in which kids could play because it was taller than most children (and thus didn't spray them in their faces) and threw water high enough that it came down like a fine drizzle. I needed to mount this sprinkler on a ladder to produce the same effect. But because this sprinkler is well built and distributes water very evenly (like a light rain), I plan to build a longer extension arm out of copper that will screw into the existing base and the existing head.

What a disappointment !!!!

What a disappointment ! I purchased this threw Amazon Prime directly from Orbit. It was in the ground for two days and working amazingly. It really was everything we wanted out of a sprinkler. I went into the house to order 5 more because we loved it so much when my wife called me right back outside to show me it was starting to leak towards the base of it but above the hose attachment. We took it out of the ground to find that it had been previously broken. The tube pulled out at the base and we had a sharp piece of metal with what appears to be Super Glue or glue from a glue gun that was holding it back together. Again this was Factory Direct from Orbit. So happy it broke when it did as I was about to spend another $18.00 a piece for 5 more of them. Now it's time to see how hard the return will be and to hunt down a similar setup as the 2 days it worked it worked exactly as we needed. However after seeing that it was broken at the Orbit Factory and then sent out with a super glue fix from Orbit lets me know to never trust any Orbit product ever again!!

The very nearly perfect sprinkler

This is the best sprinkler I have ever had. I have been looking for a very long time for a good sprinkler for my small gardens but anything that could water over the 18" perennials simply could not be found! My front garden is about 18 feet deep and heavily planted in drifts of perennials. If I elevated the sprinkler, it would reach sufficiently but didn't water the area within 4 feet of the location of the sprinkler. This is the answer! I can easily adjust the distance from the sprinkler that needs to be watered by adjusting the water flow and it applies the water evenly all the way to the center of the circular watering pattern. I put it away because I am afraid someone else might observe its virtues and I am so very glad to have it. It is well-made, sturdy and I believe it will continue to do what I want for quite a long time. I cannot recommend it too highly!

Good Sprinkler - Poor Structure

I purchased this elevated sprinkler primarily to discourage my German Shepherd from going after it like other sprinklers I've used. It's not as high as I had hoped it would be, however, after trying to bite the spinning brass once, my dog is not too interested in messing with it. The spinning sprinkler itself is excellent. I have a shared well that does not provide much water pressure, but the sprinkler works great anyway, just with limited range. I also like the way it spreads the water gently. The support structure of the sprinkler is poor. I do not recommend it for people that will be moving the sprinkler around. If you try to insert it into hard ground while the pipe is extended, it bends easily. Also, the base broke off of mine as I tried to step onto it in a hard patch of ground (only after a few months of moderate use). The pipe extension is interchangeable with other sprinkler bases. Fortunately I had another base (strong metal) that I could use to replace the broken step-on base. As a result, I'll keep the sprinkler and move it around my yard happily, rather than trying to return it. In addition, I've noticed that the plastic connection used to extend/tighten the vertical pipe is already cracking. This is noteworthy as I've only adjusted the height three or four times, so if you buy this be careful adjusting the height. If you are looking for a good sprinkler for a set location or to move around soft soil, I recommend this one. If you try to put this in hard ground, you'll quickly find out how cheap the metal support is and may rethink your purchase. I gave three stars, as the price is a bit high for a good sprinkler on such a low quality base.
