Easy to use and pretty accurate. Great price for a fun activity on the weekends. If you're starting out, then I'd say you can't go wrong with your purchase for the price. Now the shovel/pick on the other hand isn't the best so you might want to get a pickaxe that's not going to keep folding up on you. A requested gift for my 22 year old daughter. She's only used it a couple of times but says it works well, isn't heavy, is easy & fun to use. Her main complaint is only with the quality of the "treasures" she's found, which have consisted almost entirely of bottle caps. She gave 4 starts rather than 5 "not because there's anything wrong with it but because I haven't used it enough to know if it really deserves 5 stars". Worth noting, it was $110 when we got it, I notice it's now down to $73 with a 5% off coupon. ... show more

I was curious to try out metal-detector-ing(?), and picked up this unit on sale for $95, plus a $30 rebate. The case it comes with was a lot better, and larger, than I expected; though I doubt I'll use it. It comes with a survival-style shovel thing which is pretty cheap. The detector makes various beeps and boops as it detects various metals, and that's about where I set the bar, because I have no idea what I am doing. So it seems pretty great. My only complaints are: 1) the instructions are hard to understand. More pictures would honestly be helpful for someone who has never picked up a detector before. The descriptions of modes also leaves a lot to be desired; the controls could be better labeled so that they don't require so much explanation. 2) the bolt that secures the sensor coil to the shaft is plastic. Easy to swap out for a proper fastener at your local hardware store. 3) The mode switch is very small and dainty. The pinpoint button is pretty cheap, as well. A tool should have better controls than that. ... show more
