A bit more novelty than gourmet, but it is surprisingly effective. Imparting just a slight smoky flavor to whatever drink you use this on. Might work best with cocktails but would probably work just as well with non-alcoholic drinks too.

This cocktail smoker kit is pretty cool and it adds a smoky, earthy twist as well as a bit of drama to drinks. It’s like having a barbecue for your cocktails. It will change your cocktail presentation while elevating the smoky flavor tones that are prized in whiskeys which are aged in charred wooden barrels. You can use the wood chips in this kit to burn above your whiskey tumbler and create smoke which imparts flavor, just like when you're grilling. The kit comes with different types of wood chips, all-natural with no funky chemicals. It also includes metal ice cubes that keep your drink cool without watering it down. The best part is, they get all smoky too, adding to the flavor. But this kit isn't limited to just cocktails alone. You can use it to smoke all sorts of things - cheese, salt, sugar, spices, salmon or whitefish, meats, sausages, cashews, you name it. It's like a mini smoker, but without the big barbecue setup. To help you get the smoking process started, they include a small torch, which looks quite impressive with it’s shiny gold color. (Don’t forget to pick up a butane refill before you try to use it.) You can even use the torch in the kitchen to decoratively singe the peaks on your lemon meringue pie, or to finish your Creme brulee. Using it is not too complicated. You just place the smoker thingy on top of your glass, put a few wood chips over the screen in the middle, and then light it up with the torch. My husband and I lately have really been enjoying the Old Fashioned cocktail. Several times we ordered (at one of our favorite restaurants) a Smoked Old Fashioned that we really enjoyed. The first time we had it we were elated with the presentation and of course couldn’t wait to try it. When I saw they had a kit that I could try at home I immediately ordered this. The set came in a nice box with everything you need to make your smoked cocktail except for the torch. I was so disappointed because we wanted to try it as soon as we got it. My fault I didn’t realize it didn’t come with the torch. I soon figured that I could probably use my crème brûlée torch with this kit and that’s what I did. The torch I had worked just fine, I’m sure it’s pretty much what you would get if one had come in the kit. Smoking our cocktails was pretty easy to do and it does come with step by step instructions. You simply put the smoker with the mesh screen over the glass, scoop a little bit of the flavored wood chips and then hit it with the torch (about 5 seconds) and lastly cover with the lid. It says to leave the lid on for 10-15 seconds (you’ll see the smoke building up) before enjoying. It’s as simple as that. I thought the smoke gave off just a very subtle smell and a very subtle flavor to the drinks, I think I was expecting a stronger flavor but it was still pretty good. So far we tried the cherry (really liked) and the hickory (didn’t care for that as much). We can’t wait for our next party to impress our friends with our bartending skills. It would make a nice gift but I would probably buy a torch to add with the kit if I was going to give it as a gift to someone. ... show more

This is another nice smoker kit, but get one with the torch. It will make things a lot easier. The wood selection is nice and the smoking screen is well built too. All in all a nice kit but I would recommend one with a torch.

This is my third cocktail smoker set. All of them are about the same in terms of the smoke quantity imparted and the flavor of the wood chips.. These wood chips are flavorful and this apparatus is easy to use. This one doesn't come with a torch, so you can save a little money If you already have a kitchen torch. I use a butane cigar lighter and that works fine. But a creme brulee kitchen torch would produce more smoke. If I can find mine, I'll use that instead of the lighter. My only issue is that I don't think any of these cocktail smokers actually make the drinks taste better. I haven't found a cocktail that tastes better, in my opinion, with any of the cocktail smokers that I've tried. This particular unit also doesn't have a metal ring around the interior lining of the wood chip inlet. I've attached a photo showing that I unfortunately burned the wood on the interior of the unit while making a cocktail. I've only used it a couple of times and it shouldn't have burnt like this.... ... show more

When you can't afford to get your friend a grill for their birthday just get them this. It is so cool and make sure you have butane on hand with this as well. Or it's going to be a huge bummer to just look at it and anticipate the next time you get blue chain. I like that it comes with a sample of different types of wyou have Hickory wood cherrywood Oakwood and Apple wood. The Apple wood is very good in. A poison Apple cocktail smoked the torch works well and is a little adjustable with safety lock and has a pedestal at the bottom. Do not fall over just be very careful with flame. It also comeswift nice cold metal whiskey stones. Cubes a screen cleaner and a beautiful little cocktail spin to display at your next gathering or simply enjoy yourself with a cup of tea. ... show more
