We love this ice maker. It produces what I could call hospital or chik fil-a style ice. The nice small, chewable nuggets of ice. Operation is super simple. Pour in the water and turn it on. Within 3 minutes we had ice being made. After about 15 minutes of making ice you have to either move the ice around or empty the hopper. If you move the ice, that will buy you another 10 minutes before you will have to empty the hopper into a bin and put it in the freezer. Now when you freeze the ice, it all freezes together. So make sure you have a metal ice scoop, ice pick, or old knife to break it apart. Once you break it apart it will stay that way until you add freshly made ice. While it is not whisper quiet, it is not loud either. Does it make some noise...yes. Is is distracting? No. It just background noise. Overall, you cannot go wrong with this ice maker. I purchased this product since the ice maker in my fridge is having issues. The unit is compact so it was easy to find a convenient location for it. I read the instructions and they were very easy to follow and had the unit running very quickly. Once I added water and selected ice cube size, (either small or large) the cubes started dropping into the tray. It's been a month and the unit works quietly making ice. The only thing some might have an issue with is that once the ice is dropped into the basket, it is not chilled so if you leave it there long enough it partially melts. I don't have an issue with it since my refrigerator fills that role and at this price point I think it's still a great value! I would highly recommend this unit for anyone looking for an additional source of ice at home. ... show more

I love that its the pebble ice and not the bullets. It is easy to use. Just fill with water (I used filtered) press the button and it starts to 'brew' ice. Its not really as loud as claimed; It does make noise but its not that bad and its only while its making the ice. It fills relatively quickly but takes about an hour to fill up completely. The ice bags included is a nice touch. The little scoop attaches to the side of the ice maker with a suction cup which is nice for sanitary reasons. The ice comes out separate so it doesn't clump, although once you put into an ice bag it may. Nothing a few whacks with something can't fix. The only drawback is that once it is filled-it doesn't keep the ice cold. IT IS NOT A FREEZER. That said, if you keep the lid closed it takes awhile to melt so you'll still have ice for a few hours. It doesn't take up too much room, either. All told I stay alot more hydrated since I really enjoy beverages with this type of ice and a straw so my water intake has increased (which I needed.) So if you're looking to stay more hydrated or have fountain-type drinks-this is that machine for you! FYI to drain the unit there is a plug on the bottom. The cord is pretty long so it does reach my sink to drain but otherwise you can simply pull it forward off the counter and put a pot underneath the catch the water. ... show more

I took a risk on this item because I have someone in the house that, due to surgery, needed Sonic-sized ice cubes that were easier to chew. I should have just stuck with buying bags of ice from Sonic. First of all, the claim that it makes <x> amount of ice in <x> amount of hours total is true, but misleading. The problem is that it makes a basket of ice at a time, and that basket is the size of your hands palmed together. Put your two hands together and make a cup like you were going to splash water on your face. That's how much ice it makes before it tells you the basket is full. Are you going to dump that basket every time it's full? How many trips to this ice machine to fill up a bag of ice? But ok; I can deal with that, because of how I'm using the ice in the first place. One person, chewing ice. Don't think this is the solution for parties of 4 or more people, because you will be disappointed. I would give it 3 stars for this. This is why the item gets 1 star: I bought this item/arrived January 19th. March 1st, it stopped producing ice and was overheating; consequently the ice inside melted. The machine gave no indication there was a malfunction; no warning light or anything. It just stopped working. Unplugged it, let it sit to cool off, plugged it in, and still the same result. Multiple attempts at this. Today is March 4th. Still a no-go. I would not recommend this item. I would not buy this item again. I'm glad those that have had success are happy with their product. Makes ice quickly and pretty quiet. Easy to use. They also include several plastic ice bags for you to store ice in. My husband is an ice cruncher and loves the texture. Easy to clean.
