    • Exposed gears will grind chicks feet and the fan will hit their little beaks!!!
It loses temperature quickly when opening the lid which sets of an ear piercing shrill alarm which has no shut off. I used multiple thermometers with hygrometers and the temp is inconsistent throughout as is the humidity. The fan is exposed to any hatching babies. My newborns like pecking at everything, they'd be sure to get injured on the fan. The turning gears which will grind a poor newborns little chicken paws all to pieces are exposed even if the rollers are removed. There is no way to turn the worm drive gear off. The baby floor net does not cover dangerous moving parts at all. The water ports on the sides will leak when slightly overfilled making a big wet mess. The only plus this thing had about it was that they included a cord to run a power outage battery back up. I don't think chicks have much of a chance to survive this incubator if they even get to hatch out. Really tiny chicks like quail will have their feet go right through the wide chick net flooring. This is a really poor design ... show more

    • Works perfectly
It worked perfectly as long as you can follow what the directions say and then read between the lines… the styrofoam is essential to keep the temp up which is nowhere to be found in the directions. But it’s worked great.

    • DO NOT use for hatching quail
I had no problem keeping the temperature with this--like others said, keep it in the styrofoam box. It is hard to maintain the humidity, however. I had to add water daily and sometimes twice a day. I used this for quail eggs, which turned fine on the rollers (I was able to get 28 eggs on them), but when they started to hatch, two of them ended up drowning as they got stuck on the large gaps on the sides where the water is. One other one got its head stuck in the fan--I was able to extract it and it was fortunately fine, but it was a little traumatic at the time. I kept it since I missed the return window, but we only use it for incubating now and move the eggs to a separate incubator for lockdown/hatching. Finally, the countdown clock was completely inaccurate, which we didn't realize until the eggs started hatching about 3-4 days after they were "supposed" to. I then did the calculation on my calendar and saw that the built in timer was off by 3-4 days. I usually keep track on my own calendar, so lesson learned. ... show more

Easy to use, keeps temp very well. Kids love to use it. Turn function works well. You can adjust rollers for large or small eggs.
