I haven't had it long enough to say anything about the longevity of this item. It does come with a remote which is really nice. I keep this on the 24/7 feature that closely matches the normal day/night cycle and it works great. Has lots of settings and it did come with instructions.

It's not super bright, but it makes up for it in low cost and how easy it is to use. I set it to the auto daylight cycle, and it cycles through a more natural light shifts throughout the day. There are setting to customize it, but I prefer the out of the box solution. I have the one that fits a 20 long aquarium. the adjustable legs move to fit different size tanks. If I needed anything brighter I would probably but a brighter light and put it on a timer for the midday. Would buy this again. ... show more

    • Great bright light and nice having control of the color but difficult to set up

Love the brightness and color, size and price but after using a number of these the ones with the LCD screens are my favorite because I can set them up easily and read the display, make corrections as needed. If you get this one do watch the tutorial video because it makes more sense than the written directions. I have trouble getting one of them to remember the settings, or I am doing something wrong despite following directions. The others work great and are also great on terrariums (I keep freshwater shrimp and dart frogs under these lights). Value wise these are great and it's nice being able to choose red as a night light, or any other color, so the hassle might be worth it if you are looking for a lot of choices of colors. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. This light was priced much better than most. It’s shorter than our tank, but it illuminates it very well even though it has a nice compact design. It works great right out of the box. I have it on the preprogrammed setting. What I love the most is how the light mimics the natural cycles of the sun. I especially appreciate the soft blue glow instead of the black light effect. The pic is showing the more black light effect night mode is nearing lights out. It goes deep blue then gets softer and softer til it’s off. The fish and plants seem to love it too. And no more startled fish from a bright light coming on out of no where. Very bright for daylight with CO2, very nice moonlight with just blue lights. Can't figure out how to program it, tho, and I'm a computer/electrical engineer! Definite problem with power cord and/or dc adapter to plug. Spent many years notating parts, longevity, material quality, labor reliability. Quality control is money-rather than quality/pride/reputation-driven. Worldwide. Why do you think new cell phones die after a single drop, when older ones, keep on working? I've put in for a return, and replacement with same item. A crap-shoot, for sure. Maybe I'll get lucky. Update: 03/31/24: After viewing no less than 14 YouTube videos on how to program this unnecessarily complicated and insufficiently-explained-in-the-instructions marvel, I should add the following: It does do what it says, if you can figure it out. It's physically sturdier than the Aquaneat light strips that I have of the same length, less likely to "sag" over time. And yes, I have observed good-to-moderate growth of red leaf plants with CO2 and ferts under this light (programmed the way I have it) in a 10 gal tank. I can only suppose, but cannot prove, the 6500K color rendering of the white LEDs are not far off base. Closest I've come to affordable (ie priced for middle class and limited income consumers) lighting to take place of Hagen LifeGlo 6700K reflector fluorescent bulbs from years ago when freshwater planted tanks looked like clear and natural dreamscapes for less than a month's rent. I may re post as to longevity, if and when appropriate. ... show more
