  • Good TV antenna in spite of the advert silliness
Color: Antenna plus J pole
First of all, this is a good yagi TV antenna – and especially good for the price. Design and engineering of a yagi-style TV antenna is well understood. This antenna is manufactured in China and maybe engineered there also. The tech specifications are very good (8db gain for VHF; 12db gain for UHF) and reasonable for this size yagi with this number of elements. Note that this is a high VHF and UHF antenna – it will not work well on transmission channels 2-6 (low VHF) even though the tech specs seem to indicate that it will. Low VHF antennas usually have an easily noted 3+ft long element on the back and today are not common because very few stations transmit on low VHF. If you need a low VHF antenna, look for the long element and a specific mention of low and high VHF in the description. Note that if your TV station says Channel 2 this usually does NOT correspond to transmission channel 2. Check your location’s broadcast-transmission frequencies to determine if you need a low VHF antenna. Assembly instructions are nearly adequate. But assembly is pretty easy to figure out just from the photos. Amazon’s on-line photos are better than those in the assembly papers. Antenna wire simply comes off the bottom of the antenna. Nice watertight shield here with a (you might miss it) metal ring on the cable to clamp the boot to the cable so that it does not drop down. Be sure to let the cable droop away from the antenna and anchor to the pole. I did not see a good way to attach the cable to the antenna boom without causing some signal interference. Amazon has a splitter and some clips for a bundle for about $10 more. But the base unbundled antenna does include 50ft of RG6 cable. Nice. Although this is a good antenna, the advertising specs are absurd. *200+ miles: maybe for 1 out of 1000 users. *The box and Amazon advert includes a 4G-LTE logo: really, can it be used for a cell phone? * Microchip – “Built-in upgraded smart chip provides advanced VHF/UHF HD channels”; “Antenna can pick up VHF and UHF Channels thanks to the upgraded smart chip. With this booster technology it allows to reach signal as far as 200 miles (depends on your distance from nearest signal tower, the obstructions between your house and signal tower), and meanwhile reducing the signal noise interference.” : I see no evidence of a microchip. No power for a microchip. It may have some diodes, caps, and resistors somewhere (doubtful) but microchip – probably not. There is a balun to convert to 75ohm coax. This is a passive system. Classic yagi. Good TV antenna in spite of the advert silliness. ... show more

  • The best over the air antenna
Color: Antenna plus J pole
I tried several different antennas before lucking into finding this one. Trust the reviews, bottom line is that it works really well and doesn’t require an amplifier, extra height or anything else extra. Just wish I had found it earlier. Far outperforms the other antennas listed in Amazon and would highly recommend. Received all of the local channels in Northern CA for me when others received about half. Easy to assemble, at least for me, too. Trust the good reviews, legit good antenna. ... show more

  • Adequate, but NOT a "200 mile range" antenna
Color: Antenna plus J pole
There are far better antennas available, but not at this price point. You get what you pay for. I would absolutely recommend this antenna if your expectations are reasonable. If you are looking for a "200 mile range" OTA antenna, you either haven't done your homework or your expectations are unrealistic. The product title and description from the manufacturer is misleading at best. There are NO "200 mile range" OTA antennas that will receive a digital broadcast television signal. They may receive a "measureable" signal, but it won't be anywhere strong enough to be usable on your modern TV. The very best, most expensive OTA atennas mounted 30-50 feet high will receive out to about 65-70 miles over flat ground. You've been warned. Having said that, I needed an OTA antenna for a station located 34 miles from me over flat ground to supplement my main antenna which points at several towers further away and in the opposite direction. I mounted the antenna 30' above ground pointed away from roofline and aimed it using a Sadelco signal level meter. I was able to obtain an averaged -26 dBmv signal at the antenna for the one station I was trying to receive. I also installed a Winegard XT preamp at the antenna which got me to -17 dBmv at my TV, which is strong enough to be reliable even in bad weather. This antenna, like comes disassembled in three sections which must be bolted together. It assembles using the included hardware into about a three foot long antenna. For comparison, my long range antenna that is just adequate for towers 65 miles away is over 9 feet long. In the antenna world, size matters. So at about three feet, this product isn't a "long range" antenna by anyone's measure. The hardware is plain steel, not stainless or zinc-plated, so it will eventually rust. Tje wing nuts for the pole mount are stampings, not even cast wing nuts. Just very poor quality. And the instructions are less than useful. You'll need to carefully study the pictures to see how it's supposed to be assembled. But if you're patient, you can get it put together. The included u-bolt mounting means the antenna is easily tipped up or down which is not helpful. In order to get the best signal the antenna needs to be level, not tilted. Unless you live on a mountain or deep in a valley, that's not a a good feature and it makes accurately aiming the antenna difficult at best. In order ti be able to rotate the antenna to vet the brst signal, the u-bolt must be loosened. Yiu can't hold the antenna while measuring the signal and with the mount even slightly loosened, the antenna droops. So accurately aiming is tough. Better antennas have two u-bolts that keep the antenna level while aiming. Despite the misleading product description, cheap mounting hardware, and poor assembly instructions the antenna met my needs. I wouldn't buy another, but I did make it work instead of hassling with a return. Your mileage may vary. ... show more

  • Pretty good antenna for the money
Color: Antenna plus J pole
Antenna comes complete with fasteners and mounting post. Not a big antenna so shouldn’t be too offensive in a city or town installation. Unit is sturdy but a little challenging to put main shaft together. Using a flat surface to assemble unit makes it easier to fasten all the pieces. Range is limited but I picked up an additional station previous antenna couldn’t pull in. ... show more

  • Works pretty good
Color: Antenna with J Pole + kit
Install was a bit tricky. It helps to have a creative, problem-solving mind. I grab about 40 channels and I am just northeast of Detroit. Signal is hampered by storms. The local images are very clear. It might advertise a very long range but I just grab the towers at about 30 miles and no more.
