  • Best mobile CB antenna I've used for many years!

Best mobile CB antenna I've used for many years!

  • The PL259 is wierd, but other than that, it is perfect.

I've been doing CB radio since the 1980s, just refreshing my tech with a new radio, and a new radio deserves a fresh antenna... This is my first Wilson antenna in all those years. I have used 102" whips, Predator 10-K, Firestik, and even a lowly Realistic mag mount. As the title says, the PL259 is a bit odd, it comes apart to allow easy pass through for firewalls and whatnot. Something I have never seen in any other antenna setup. A good idea, but when you screw the part the cable is in, you need to be careful to STOP before you push the insulator too far out and the ground shield cannot make contact. However if you assemble it right... I installed mine on my Nissan Pathfinder, simply inserted the stinger in the base and bottomed it out, locked down the set screws, dropped it dead center on the roof, routed the cable through the back door, hid the cable through the trim all the way to the radio. Used my SWR meter on the radio to test. 1.0 on channel 1, 1.1 on channel 40. Verified with a stand alone SWR meter, same results. Magnet mount is REALLY strong, no worries at all about it coming loose. On the contrary could prove to be a bit of a problem going through the car wash as I need to take the antenna down before I go through. Plays skip with the best of them, making QSOs from Rhode Island to Southern California. Once the sun goes down and skip fades off local comm is excellent. It's no 102 whip, but I would put it up against a K40 or Predator 10-K any day of the week. Not going to run added power through it, so don't care about the power handling capacity, and certainly don't need the added the Wilson 5000 has. I never thought I would like a magnet mount CB antenna, and every experience with them prior to this has reinforced that idea. But I did NOT want to drill holes in this car. Especially since I am not 100% sure I want to keep it much longer. I figured this antenna would allow me to squeak by until my regular rig is done at the mechanics. Well, I actually really like this antenna. Enough to make me consider taking the 102" off the bumper of my pickup and roof mounting this antenna once it is ready for me to starting driving it regularly again... ... show more

  • A-1 Wilson Warranty and Factory Replacement!!
Product Packaging: Standard Packaging
This is my update to former review. I have improved this rating from 2 stars to 5 stars: 1. Initially, I only gave this 2 stars, because it arrived from seller with bad factory installed base coil. 2. I could NOT achieve acceptable SWR with it, despite compliance with all Wilson instructions. As it turned out the antenna had an OPEN in it and could not receive or transmit properly. I notified the seller and Wilson. 3. The overall construction is very good, aside from that manufacturing problem on the initial antenna: you can check the antenna with continuity meter yourself when you buy it. You should be able to get zero ohms resistance between PL259 center pin and outer shell or antenna. Your multimeter should NOT show an open line on this antenna. 4. Seller was willing to work with me, IF Wilson had not covered the new unit under warranty. 5. Wilson DID OK the return of the defective antenna for factory replacement under warranty. YAY! 6. Three cheers for Blue Kangaroos for sticking with me on this. Three cheers for Wilson for EXCELLENT and TIMELY customer service and warranty handling of this whole case. Even their engineer called me to help figure out why I wasn't able to get good SWR. 7. Wilson customer service and engineering were both very cooperative!! They included new base, AND whip to replace whip that they had told me to try cutting while we were troubleshooting the SWR issue of first antenna. 8. The warranty return took only a few days to reach them and for them to get the new unit to me! VERY GOOD! 9. Receiving inspection visual of new replacement was good. Bench test of antenna continuity was good. 10. Antenna is on the vehicle and working SPENDIDLY! Thanks to all who helped get this sorted out! ... show more

  • Sucks! Don't waste your money.
Product Packaging: Standard Packaging
Total piece of garbage. The coil was manufactured wrong and internally the whip has been connected to the shielding / ground on the coax rather than the center conductor. Simple ohmmeter check confirmed this after it failed the SWR test. 100% reflected power = 100% useless. DAS obviously has no quality control what so ever. There is no way in hell an antenna in that condition could have slid by QC if they did any testing at all. I guess what really irks me the most is that it is American made and an assembly error like that really requires a worker to have feces for brains. I bought a cheap 14$ Chinese made Hamstick at the swap meet and mounted it to the lip of my truck bed. Works great and is wide banded enough to cover CB, the funnies and the 10M band with no tweaking. The Chinese make the best stuff now. Most likely because a negative revue like this would most likely get most of their workers and at least their quality control tech executed along with there families which is the way it should be. ... show more
