  • [UDPDATED] Performance Degraded over 5 mos, then reboot every 3 hrs.
Style: AX11000 WiFi 6 | 12 Streams with Tri-band
Started out great. Then it got progressively worse performance over time. Wireless would start randomly dying and even auto-rebooting the router every week. Then it started doing it daily. And then every 3 hrs or so. Between a combination of crashing and rebooting, and just the wireless purely dying and not accepting new connections...it became unbearable. No amount of setting changes made any difference. When it was working, it seemed fine as far as bandwidth and throughput. Other problems: When using the "Smart Connect" feature, many devices can not find the wireless network or use it automatically. Especially the 2.4ghz. Had to turn that off right at the beginning. Support: Because this problem degraded over time, Netgear support would not help me without paying for more support past 90 days. At 5 mos, they wanted money to help me with complex work like reflashing the firmware directly over cable and reconfiguring, etc. So, I will have to figure that out myself and see if it matters. I am still under warranty, but not support? This is there latest, newest, best, and most expensive router...and it crapped out that easy!? [UPDATED] I backed up my settings, and then did a complete factory reset of the device (pin push in the back of device), and imported my settings again. The device is now stable and the issues with reboots and crashing are gone. I was able to stream the SUPER BOWL to 4x 4k HD TVs symultaneously for the big game w/o issue and with a big party. Only root cause I can figure out is that when I first setup the device, I tried the setup for multi-gig, before I learned that it would not help me and that I needed more inputs to use that much speed anyway. There were a number of weird conditions that happened while I was setting that up on my modem and my router. Undoing that never seems to have really "undone" properly in my opinion. The factory reset took care of it. Took alot of time to figure that out. My NetGear support complaint is still the same. Trying to make me pay for support after 90 days is pathetic. ... show more

  • Consider this or the RAX120 even
Style: AX11000 WiFi 6 | 12 Streams with Tri-band
Let's recognize at least all together, that this router is complete Overkill for one or two people or even three people . Then let's also recognize that the advertised 10.8 GB speed of connectivity in between your computer and the router will never be achieved because of how they come to that number which if you look within the tech specs is rounded up to 11. Which to me is straight out of spinal tap because you would ask why would you make 10.8 and then the engineer would just say that this goes to 11. Netgear always had problems with their releases for these high-end routers, where several firmware updates are released to fix the wi-fi network speeds. I've had this experience on every Nighthawk router I've owned and I buy more routers than I actually need because I pretty much have a spending addiction. I currently own the RAX120, and I upgraded to, well this router and their RAXE500, which is a tri-band router, of which one of the three bands is 6e (not 6 but 6e). I purchased them both because I wanted to see the difference for myself because I didn't understand which one truly is for my scenario. . For this router, of the three bands, two are of the wifi 6, while again their AXE500 trip band is one 5 GHz and one 6E. The difference between Wi-Fi 6 (how your phone sees it) and Wi-Fi 6E is the width of the channel. 6E is the better option for future-proofing your network. There are not a lot of current devices that can take advantage of 6E yet . So of the 20 devices in the home (RAXE advertises 60 devices and this RAX200, 50), two see the 6e and they both Samsung (phone and tablet). The Samsung GalaxyBook does not, Sony XR-75x90j does not nor do their receivers. Nothing on blueair does either. So get this over the raxe500 and even consider the rax120. You're not going to be aggregating your ethernet in your house and doing to isn't going to speed up your internet speed. ... show more
