Nesco 8" Elect. Skillet arrived on time (Prime) and in excellent condition. I am a single, elderly male that has to prepare all his own meals. I try to provide myself with food that is tasty, nutritious, and reasonably simple to make. This little skillet has turned out to be a welcome addition to my counter top appliances. The Nesco, along with a small elect. grill, a toaster oven and my microwave oven lets me efficiently prepare 95% of my meals. The Nesco skillet seems to be really well made and the ability to wash the unit (minus the probe) is a real bonus. With the lid on it really heats up fast and can really get hot (425-450 deg.) at its highest setting. The thermostat, located on the probe lets you experiment with different settings for separate cooking needs. There are 5 different heat settings for the thermostat. I usually preheat to the 1-2 range and take it on up to 3-4 to do the actual cooking. The 5 setting is really hot and I use it only to sear beef, pork chops or ham steaks. I've cooked the previously mentioned meats as well as eggs, french toast, battered fried mushrooms/onions, shrimp as other tasty foods. This little skillet has worked well for all of the above. The size of the unit is perfect for 1 or 2 people with limited space. The non-stick coating has also held up well. This has been a great purchase at a reasonable price. ... show more

Update: I love this. Besides burgers, pancakes, french toast, I have "baked" biscuits in this. Also frozen potatoes, french fries, and tater tots. It is easier for me than my oven. This things has worked great ever since I got it plugged in correctly. It is light, easy to clean, easy to handle, heats up quickly. It just works well. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Update: This really is not nearly as difficult to plug in as some of the reviews say. Just push it in firmly. But I don't unplug it often. The heat is totally even. So little fluctuation that I can do four pancakes one at a time with no waiting. I believe the negative reviews are almost all due to not plugging it in properly. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I really wanted to like this. I need this. I slow roast almost all of the meat and poultry I eat and than just heat it up in the microwave. But burger doesn't work that way. I received this a couple of days ago. Tried it three times. It seemed to take a long time to heat up. The light never went out. Just didn't work very well. I figured that I got a bad one. I went back and read through some of the reviews. This one has better reviews than most of the little ones. I would prefer a stainless steel cooking surface, but those were larger and cost more. Than I saw a review that said it was difficult to plug the temperature control in. It hadn't been for me. I had plugged and unplugged it a couple of times. I went back and tried pushing the thing in harder. It went. Plugged in nice and solid. I'm not frail. I work on cars, motorcycles, computers, houses. I should have caught this, but it felt like it was plugged in. Now it works great. Heated up quickly. The light went out when it was hot. It does cycle on and off, like most electric cooking devices.     • Great skillet except for one thing...

The hardware bolt or screw (flat top) was unable to be tightened. Had there been a square top to the round nut or if it had a groove on the top I could have used a flathead screwdriver to tighten it but it was a smooth top round bolt/nut so the black plastic know would stay loose. Otherwise, it's usable and exactly what I wanted as a single person for grilled cheese, eggs, and just about almost everything, and very easy to clean and handle.     • Worthless after 11 months

I bought it December 20, '21. Today, on December 1, 2022, I bought a different brand 8-inch electric pan to replace it. I loved it's size and shape, and for 10 months I was pleased with its performance. But suddenly it won't achieve temperature anymore, or hold it once I get it there by turning up the setting higher. I set it for 375, it shuts off after 250. I crank it up, get it hotter, but it won't hold it, plunges back down to 250 or so. (I have a laser temp gun and can accurately measure the temperature.) It is now junk and worthless. If it had lasted more than a year, I very well might have bought it again because I was making some excellent one-person hash browns with it (thus a fair 3 stars) but 11 months is just a non-starter. You can't get 4 stars out of me for that. Wish me luck on the next brand. Edit: I wanted to edit this to say that I estimate I used the frying pan about twice per month. Like I said, I bought it to make small portions of hash browns (the size allows the oil to stay relatively collected...under the potatoes where I need it). As much as I love hash browns, I still only made them about twice a month. ... show more
