The top layer is soft, but about 4 inches down it gets firm. The materials all seem to be very good quality. Honestly, I’ve been sleeping really well on this mattress. It’s supportive but still soft enough to be comfortable - kind of that perfect in-between feel. It expanded pretty quickly after unboxing and didn’t have much of a smell. I wake up with less back stiffness than before, which was my main concern. I spent literally months reading and watching reviews for beds before finally deciding on this. It's my first time buying an adult mattress and wanted to make sure I did the work to ensure I enjoyed it. I was looking at the Dreamcloud Premier Hybrid and then a friend mentioned he and his gf loved their Nectar Premier Hybrid. I live in PA, they live in FL so I couldn't just go check it out but I decided his endorsement was enough. I did watch a review on Youtube where the reviewer had "I'm Still Sinking" on the thumbnail but I figured he's just being dramatic. I slept on it the first night with my friend who tends to hog the bed so I wasn't in love but figured I'd give it another few nights as I always sleep terrible with this friend. It's just been under 2 weeks and I can honestly say this bed is not for me. If you're looking for soft, like too soft, this is the bed for you. I like a soft top with more firmness underneath. I want to lay down after a long day and say "Ahhhhhh" with a big smile on my face. As I mentioned I watched that YouTube video where the reviewer said he was still sinking. I didn't fully understand what he meant until I had to do a virtual appointment from my bed and I kept having to adjust myself and my MacBook because babyyyyy... when I tell you I was sinking like the Titanic, I mean it. And then because its a memory foam top you can struggle to move a little bit so I wouldn't recommend for less mobile folks. I had no issues with any off gassing odors, I had absolutely no neck/shoulder discomfort. I do love pillows but I had to be careful and only use 1 when sleeping sometimes as the sinking would have my neck contorted (side/back sleeper here). Anyways I will likely start the process of getting it returned and either drag my old mattress back in here or perhaps buy the Dreamcloud Hybrid Premier as that one has less of a sinking feel. Oh also this mattress is supposed to be 13" just like my old mattress but I'll say this: NONE of my fitted sheets fit this bed right. I can make my bed and not even lay on it and yet it looks like I made it a week ago and haven't bothered making it since. Sorry, I'm not hardly impressed by the cooling either. I had been needing a new bed for a couple of years but always held off for fear of making a "bad" purchase. I work construction and push my body, I spent the last year waking up in pain every morning. I tested every bed in a mattress store and I couldn't get this one out of my head....Amazon's price was a little cheaper so I took the leap and purchased. BEST decision! For reference I am a 5'0 145lb-150lb woman and primarily a side sleeper, sometimes I like to sleep on my back but often find most beds make it too uncomfortable for me. This one hugs me in all the right places whether I'm on my side or back. I prefer a softer bed and was nervous about the Med-Firm but this one has been great, I feel totally supported without sinking in or feeling like I'm on a board. I would be happy if it was a little more plush but it has still been fantastic. It's got great support under hips/shoulders and the feeling I get when I lay down after a long day is second to none. Ive had it about 2 weeks now and I'm still excited to crawl into bed every night....on the weekends when I get to sleep in I don't want to leave it! If you needed something a little more firm the memory foam would probably be the better option, I had a Nectar memory foam years ago that was just a little too firm for me. I slept on it about 4hrs after opening as it inflated quite quickly. There was some off-gassing for the first few days but with the window cracked and an air purifier running it wasn't bad at all and I have not noticed any further odor. I haven't gotten a frame for it yet so it may feel a little different once I do, if after I get a frame I notice any major differences I will update my review. I had a serta standard mattress with a pillow top for 10 years before this mattress. This hybrid is amazing. It is not too soft, it isnt too firm.. for me its probably on the softer side but I LOVE how my ankles, elbows, lower back slightly sink into the mattress creating amazing support. Same if you side sleep, the mattress conforms to your pressure points so you dont feel any stiffness in areas you might lay hard on (elbows, wrists, etc for side sleepers). It is the correct size for a King and thicker than my Serta so it accepts these newer deep pocket sheets better. The material on the outside are high quality and look great. It is something I look forward to each evening.. I cant WAIT to get into bed. As instructed I do rotate it probably 1-2x a month clockwise and can notice its a bit firmer after rotating. If on the fence, GET IT if you like a mid firm/mid soft mattress.. this is not the choice for you though if you like a firm mattress. It isnt overly soft either, I find it JUST RIGHT. This is my second nectar bed. The first I had for 3 years before I was downsized from king size due to a move. Of course I got the same exact mattress just smaller. The old mattress went to my sister who also loves it. These mattresses maintain their comfort level and support without worrying about flipping/turning etc. I recommend these mattresses to everyone especially if you like a bit of a firmer mattress that isn't rock hard. I haven't tried their more premium mattresses but I seriously don't care about them because this one is perfect and affordable. Remember to use a mattress cover if you're buying a new mattress, it helps protect from spills/stains/dust/debris and extends the life of your mattress especially if you have pets!!! ... show more
