  • Great Wizard Wand and Reading Tool
I actually got this nostepinne because I had broken another Wizard Wand (Universal Studios One) by sitting on it. I wanted this one because it looked really durable and at 11 inches it would be a little more manageable in length for the desk. I use this for reading/studying (like a torah pointer yad), and as a magic/fidget wand (like a H.P. Cosplay Prop) Shape and Ergonomics: The honey-wand style rings at the top of the handle are very ergonomic to wrap your index and thumb around if you want to get a bit more flowy with your wand moments. The handle is slightly hourglass shaped, which remains comfy if you choke up or down on the handle. In chopstick grip, the wand is comfy, with my thumb on the upper honey-rings and my middle and index a bit on the "magic"-end. If you're expecting the thickness of a Universal Studios wand, this is a little thicker and a little less "pointy". Pointing and Focus: I use this to help me file insurance documents at work (Point at computer, point at insurance papers at my desk), to check my code (Line by line), and to help me stay focused on longer readings (Like Psychology papers and such). I read in a paper that if you're focusing your attention between two areas, it helps to have an IRL pointer (usually finger) to enhance your attention. I also have ADHD, so this helps me stay grounded with the readings and busywork. Magic: I think this is a fun cosplay prop, and it's very thick compared to other wizard wands I've had. The wand feels substantial, and it's a nice "humble" wand if you're not looking for an over-the-top wizard wand. The motions feel comfy, and I think this would not break were I to put this in my sling bag. Fidget: If you're into pen-spinning, this is lovely and has good momentum without tiring my fingers. It lends itself well to throwing and catching tricks: I like switching from under to over grip by tossing the wand straight up, parallel to the ground, then slamming down and catching it in an over grip. Overall, this is a smooth, well weighted, pointer/wand that I feel is durable and ready to take on whatever task you want: wizarding, working, or winding. ... show more

  • Makes it easier to wind yarn by hand
This can be useful even if you also have a mechanical yarn ball winder. It's useful for rewinding just a few rows that you need to take back, or if you want to wind yarn while travelling. The nostepinne is made of beautiful smooth wood so it should be durable. Another thing that's nice about it is that it is large. The mechanical ball winder was fun to use, but it seemed to be barely big enough to wind a ball of sock yarn - about 400 yards of thin yarn. And even then, I was constantly pressing it down while winding so that it would fit on the ball winder. The nostepinne would work for a much larger quantity of yarn. Overall, I am glad that I bought both. ... show more

  • Handy Tool for Any Yarn Crafter!
This is a high-quality nostepinne; super useful for winding up any loose yarn ball by hand. While I have a mechanical ball winder, there are lots of times it is useful to have one for winding by hand. Used correctly, this will easily produce a hand-wound ball of yarn that pulls from the center and looks really nice in your yarn basket to boot. I love it! ... show more

  • The finish is smooth
It’s not as fast as the geared winders, but it’s easy to store. It’s a little pricey for a stick of wood, but it allows me to create a yarn ball more easily than the way I had been doing it (around my fingers) and also allows me to pull the yarn from the center of the ball. The finish is smooth and it’s easy to slip the yarn ball off without it unraveling. The yarn pictured is lace weight. I feel like a heavier weight yarn would probably create a ball faster. ... show more

  • I like it..
I like the dark wood.. it does exactly what it is supposed to do.. having no problems with it.. it’s slick and smooth so yarn does not catch on it and fray..

  • Contentment
I have a crank yarn winder which I use a lot when I start new projects, but sometimes I just like to hand wind my leftover yarns. I have the rosewood. It’s beautiful, warm to the touch after just a few minutes. I get a very content, almost meditative feeling while winding yarns with this. The circumference is half the size of my crank winder. I like that. The yarn mushroom feels more solid, more compact. And I don’t have to worry about yarn getting stuck in the gears ( which happens periodically when I use my crank winder). I also consider it a tribute to present and past yarn artisans. Namaste ... show more

  • Using it all the time
I wasn't sure I needed a nostepinne, but now that I have one, I use it all the time. I crochet, and I really like center pull yarn balls, so I watched a lot of youTube videos on how to use a nostepinne, and began making my own yarn balls. Very useful when you have a lot of yarn "barf" that needs to be organized into a ball. This happens often. A little longer than I would like, but I just make the yarn ball higher up on the nostepinne. Matches my teak yarn bowl. ... show more

  • Fine product, but not the highest quality.
This is a fine nostepinne for the price, but not particularly high quality. Within a few days of use, I noticed some flaws where the yarn was snagging. The more I use it, the more flaws seem to appear - I’m guessing due to the finishing coat wearing down? After I had a friend sand it down and refinish it, it’s been much better. For anyone on the fence about a nostepinne vs a mechanical winder: I prefer winding on a nostepinne since I crochet. Hand winding allows me to add twist to my yarns and preemptively counterbalance the un-twist caused by yarning-over. ... show more
