  • Excellent starting point for those looking for good quality lows for their car audio system.
Style: Dual 12" Subwoofer Enclosure Pattern Name: Subwoofer
For the money I don't think you can find a better loaded dual 12" subwoofers. The box is excellent quality, and it is a plug and play install. Paired with the right amp (I have them running on the Power Acoustik REI-1500D Caliber, cost way less then the MTX that they offer as a bundle) it thumps if that is your, and the enclosed model I bought can produce some excellent tone. You don't have to worry about missing the db's, or the "boom" with the enclosed box, especially if you place them in the back of an SUV. They will rattle your soul if you want, but no guaruntee you won't clip them into oblivion if you do so.... ... show more

  • More than you'll need
Style: Dual 10" Subwoofer Enclosure + Amplifier Pattern Name: Subwoofer
I was so impressed with my MTX terminator MTX TNP212D2 Dual 12" Subwoofer And Amplifier install that I did in my '92 Suburban that when I went looking for a new amp/sub combo for my Acura, of course I would check what MTX has to offer. I would have just bought another terminator kit, but this was cheaper and smaller (2x12 in the trunk would have been a tight squeeze). Setup was very straightforward and easy, and although the instructions could have been a little more in-depth, I realize that this kit is intended for novices who don't know a lot about car audio and providing more information would have ultimately been more confusing to most people rather than helpful. I decided to go with an amp/sub combo because there are many factors that go into creating a good amp/sub combo, which includes subwoofer size, how many subwoofers to hook up, how to wire your subs, what impedance level to achieve, etc. It makes no sense to buy an expensive set of subs, with a cheap amp, nor a cheap set of subs with an expensive amp. I feel like these combos are matched for both price and performance and you won't be losing out on either, not to mention it's much simpler (and much cheaper) to just buy it all in a combo deal like this. You really get a lot for your money with this kit, it doesn't feel or look cheap at all. The sub box is embroidered, is very heavy and appears to be really well built. The amp has a blue LED "cross hair" power-on light that is a nice touch. Trust me, you'll have more way more than enough bass for any type of listening at decibels that aren't causing you severe hearing loss. There is enough bass in this combo to completely saturate and overpower your entire speaker setup (why you would want to do that, I have no idea, but you could if "your thing" is only hearing bass when you listen to music). Someone recently reviewed that his/her 6x9 speakers have more bass than this setup, clearly he/she hadn't hooked up this unit correctly (or even at all perhaps?). The bass response of 6x9" speakers is no where in the same galaxy as this setup. I am in no way shape or form an "expert" on car audio by any means, but I have done quite a bit of playing around and researching so I do have a couple of tips when setting up your system for the first time: 1. If your head unit only has 1 RCA subwoofer out, simply connect that subwoofer out to either the (L) or the (R) input on your amp. This is a monoblock amp and doesn't utilize stereo separation. You can use a splitter if you want to achieve the same thing (but why would you?) 2. Setting your gain level is important to ensure undistorted playback as well as maintaining a healthy life of both your amp and your speakers. Proper technique for achieving the utmost gain without distortion is done with an oscilloscope, but the quick and dirty way is to set your head unit to the max volume that you will be listening to your music at (which if you'd like to continue using your ears for hearing, shouldn't be distorting or anywhere near that level). While your music is playing at that level, raise the gain on your amp until you can hear distortion in the bass, as soon as you can hear that, back it off. It's better to err on the side of lower gain for reliability. 3. Setting your LPF (low pass filter) is important. You want your subwoofer to only amplify the frequencies that fall into the region of "bass level frequencies", having your sub responding to the full spectrum of frequencies (high's and mid's) will leave your music sounding very "muddy" and unclear. To set this properly have a song playing that you are familiar with, set the LPF at zero, then slowly start to turn the LPF up to where the sub is responding to the kick-drum and bass of your music. Keep raising the LPF until you can hear it starting to pick up higher frequencies (no longer JUST the kick-drum and bass), then roll it back down a bit. I have mine set around 85hz which to me sounds the best, but again, it's a personal preference and should be set to your specific taste. Most modern head units will offer you a lot of tuning options for LFP and HPF for a good separation. 4. Don't be afraid to just have fun exploring, you'd be surprised the world of a difference just a few adjustments can make. I hooked everything up with Knuconceptz's wiring kit KnuKonceptz KCA Complete 4 Gauge Amp Installation Kit which was cheap, high quality and was more than what I needed to wire up this setup. One last thing that is very important, MTX provides amazing customer service. I emailed them with a technical question and they got back to me within 3 minutes! They were very informative and helpful and they really care about you enjoying your MTX product, that alone is worth them getting my hard earned money. If you're having trouble figuring something out, email them or give them a call and you'll be happy with the response and technical knowledge you'll receive. If you've never had an amp/sub in your car, do yourself a favor and get it, you won't be disappointed. ... show more
