SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY WITH A SMIDGEN OF HOMICIDE USA Today Bestselling author Tonya Kappes brings you southern and quirky characters in her mystery series. Her stories are charged with humor, friendship, family and life in small southern towns.Welcome to Normal, Kentucky where NOTHING is normal. Mae West, owner of Happy Trails Campground, never thought she would become an actress like her namesake. Calling herself an actress might be far stretch as she plays a minor role in the local Civil War reenactment BATTLE AT CAMP WILDCAT. When the reenactment doesn't go as planned, not one but two of the town's folks aren't playing dead. . .they were MURDERED! Come to find out there was a prison break and the serial killer is believed to be in Normal and someone has stolen a motorhome from Happy Trails Campground. Are these connected? Mae lets boyfriend and hunky detective, Hank Sharp, follow all the leads about the murders and on the trail of the serial killer because she's got bigger s'mores in the fire. The motorhome owners have filed a lawsuit and suing her for the deed to Happy Trails Campground. Mae has embraced Normal and there's nothing or no one going to take her campground. She's determined to find the motorhome and return it to the owners before she hands over any deed to anyone. Mae just might find out that tapping into her namesake just might come in handy when coming face to face with a serial killer. Read more

  • Great Series
I am so in love with this series. My husband and I own a RV and love to travel to different places. We have found some wonderful campgrounds with friendly people and return to them when we can. I would love to visit Normal, Kentucky and visit the quaint little town that is featured in the story. Mae is a hoot and I loved everything about her. Her southern charm is endearing and the sayings she blurts out at times made me roll on the floor laughing. . The author has a great knack for giving readers characters that are funny, quirky and just plain friendly. Well I better say not everyone in this story is so charming. Happy Trails Campground is the blood, sweat and tears of hard work for Mae. She has made it a place where people feel welcome and comfortable. I would park my RV there if I could. There is a big celebration coming up in town that has everyone scrambling to make the event perfect. When an escaped serial killer is spotted the town and campground are on edge. Should they go ahead with the festivities planned? The rumors start that the serial killer could be close and chaos ensues in the campground. Is it a coincidence that a motor home was stolen just as the escaped killer is perhaps nearby? Mae turns to her handsome boyfriend for answers since he is a detective and on the case. It's funny how Mae can get answers from Hank about the investigation. He knows he shouldn't tell her, but he can't stop himself. There is a big mystery of where the serial killer is hiding and who stole the motor home. Are the campers safe at Happy Trails Campground? The story is well written and will keep readers guessing as a mysterious map and wig are discovered. Was someone else involved in what happened to several members of the town? I wonder if revenge played a part in the aftermath of a serial killer on the loose ? I love how the author keeps readers guessing until the very end. I thought for sure I knew what would happen; but the author with her technique of putting twists in the story fooled me completely. I eagerly await the next book in this funny and thrilling series. I received an Advanced Reader Copy. The review is my own opinion. ... show more

  • FUN READ
Dollycas's Thoughts Mae West has settled nicely into her new life in Normal Kentucky and the Happy Trails Campground. So much so she has been talked into playing a minor role in the town's Civil War reenactment of the Battle at Camp Wildcat. It is a huge event for the community. What the community was not planning on was a prison break. The man who escaped has vowed to kill the members of the jury that sent him to prison. People who call Normal home. Detective Hank Sharp has made a vow of his own to keep everyone safe. Still, after the enactment, two people are found dead. And if Mae doesn't have enough on her plate, a motorhome has been stolen from her campground and its owners have filed a lawsuit and they want her deed to Happy Trails. Could the convict have stolen the RV? Is he still nearby? or has he gotten away with the murders and driven off into the sunset? Mae desperately needs to find that motorhome, will she find a killer too? ____ I am slowly working my way through this series, I can't believe how fast Tonya Kappes writes and her imagination to come up with now 37 books in the series along with all the other series she has going. Mae West is a unique individual as are all the characters the author has created. Mae has come to enjoy campground life with her French poodle Fifi. She has made some improvements to her camper and several in the campground. Her relationship with Detective Hank Sharp is loving and comfortable. The Laundry Club, a group of Mae's friends is always busy doing something. Queenie is in charge of the reenactment and Betts Hagar has her hands full with her preacher husband Lester. Librarian Abby Fawn is a pro at posting on social media and posts about everything happening in Normal and Happy Trails. Dottie stays busy working with Mae at the campground. Mary Elizabeth, Mae’s adopted mother, has also moved to Normal. She has a huge heart but is best in small doses. A Civil War reenactment, a prisoner on the loose, and a missing motorhome fill the pages of this 5th Camper and Criminal Cozy Mystery and the author sets a brisk pace as Mae, Hank, and their friends try to untwist it all. The search for the convict was Hank's priority and there was a lot of wooded area to cover. A hunting dog, Chester was even brought in but he lost the scent. Mae's priority was finding the RV and saving the campground. They still found time to get together to compare notes. It was very easy to escape into the action and fun to sort through the clues. There were some great twists to keep the characters and readers on their toes. There appears to never be a dull moment at the Happy Trails Campground or the town of Normal. Motorhomes, Maps, & Murder is an entertaining addition to this series and I know I have just scratched the surface. I hope to return soon for another visit. ... show more
