I installed this grab bar vertically next to a bath tub. The mounting brackets give you some flexibility with the location of your screws, so I was able to get two screws into the stud at the top and at the bottom. I added a hollow wall anchor (designed for use with grab bars) at the top and bottom, for a total of six fasteners. After reading other reviews I chose not to use the screws that came with the bar, but the screws I used were not much better. My advice is not to use Phillips-head screws for mounting this type of grab bar to a wood stud. Instead, use screws with Torx or square drive heads. Also, use masking tape to fasten the two decorative covers to the middle of the bar during installation so that they don't slide around making screeching noises while you're trying to work. ... show more

Purchased this 4' grab bar for my husband to use for therapy in standing after his stroke. The only thing that I think was not quality are the screws they have for installation. Heads are too soft and can round off. I used my own long screws.

I had my bathroom remodeled with a tile shower and wanted a grab bar. Very sturdy, works as expected, and definitely needed as my tile floor was initially slippery (working on that with a different product). My fixtures are brushed nickel so this bar blends in well.

I have used this product before and like it. I do not use the supplied screws as they too soft to screw into wood studs. I use Hillman 3” exterior decking screws with Torq drive head.

Upgrade to fatter screws. The supplied ones are a bit skinny for a good bite in the wall. Anchors for sheetrock advisable if you can't find a stud.

As we get older we think of ways to make things that are safe for us to get in and out of the tub. I have install two of these the short one first and several months later the large or longer one. Really help getting out of the bath tub.
