  • Terrible, terrible - beware "Rufina Tropicals"
Hyacinth are my absolute FAVORITE flower and bulb to grow. I have a lot of experience growing them. I've never ordered bulbs online before, so I thought I'd give it a shot. Wow. The seller - "Rufina Tropicals" - has been a mess to deal with, but I will review them in their seller page. The product that actually arrived... I'm not sure if they even are the genuine product. Hyacinth bulbs, depending on the variety and care, are very distinctive, and usually about the size of a lime. A dozen of them should have been in roughly a gallon-sized bag. I have no idea what I actually received. These came in a roughly 3x5" padded enveloped, and are about the size of a small pebble. I bought vases to force these bulbs, but that is going to be impossible as these will just fall into the water. A "real" hyacinth wouldn't have that problem. I have no idea if these are just terrible, dwarfed bulbs, or something completely different, but they are not what you would expect, and certainly not what is depicted on the pictures of this product. All of these are in bad shape, too. I am going to plant them to see what happens, but I'm not expecting much. You can see from this picture that they are tiny, weird little things. Some of them are smaller than a penny. The largest of them is about the size of a nickle. So very disappointed. :( ** UPDATE ** As I said, I've grown many Hyacinth bulbs in the past, so I know what I am doing. I planted whatever these were, and nothing ever grew. So, yeah, a complete waste of time and money. :( ... show more

  • Nice bulbs, but next time I'll wear gloves!
I just received my bulbs and decided to force a few. I opened the package and examined all the bulbs. They each had a hint of a flower bud forming. I have no doubt they will all bloom beautifully. I am curious to know what they are treated with. I touched my neck after opening the package, then scratch it as it started to burn. I was washing dishes, wiped my hands, grabs the package from the porch, opened it with a box cutter I use for all packages....touched the bulbs and then my neck and felt a burning sensationon my neck.....I immediately went to wash the area. Soap was not enough. I grabbed some rubbing alcohol and a cotton swab. Even then it took a minute for the burning sensation to clear. I do not have allergies or super sensitive skin. Whatever was used to treat the bulbs is not something I've ever encountered before. Please, if they need to treat the bulbs, just make it known that it could cause irritation to skin. Thx. ... show more

  • Wear gloves--itchy rash after handling bulbs
Like another reviewer, while planting these bulbs (I wasn't wearing gloves), my face and neck started itching. I've never planted hyacinths before but googling it said this can happen, so I recommend wearing gloves and not touching your face at all. It stopped itching pretty quickly after I washed my hands and face and took an antihistamine. Eleven out of the 12 bulbs appeared healthy to me. The last bulb was very small. I'll try to update this post in the spring. This is my first time ever planting any bulbs. My cat died in August and I'm planting over 200 bulbs on and around her grave. I really hope they grow.Like another review I read, while planting these bulbs (I wasn't wearing gloves), my cheeks, chin and neck started itching. • Small bulbs
Small bulbs do not produce a big flower. I force bulbs in the winter and these are the smallest flowers I've had. Smell good and pretty, just super small. I'm going to plant outside in hopes they do better in the ground for future years.

  • The buls
I was happy to be able to order hyacinth bulbs late in the season. IA expected to receive your usual top quality, but three of them were immediately ready for garbage and the others are questionable.
