I waited till this was released because it was longer. I tried using the full length and it tried to shake itself to pieces. The unit has to be bolted down. The pot metal mounting brackets shattered on the first attempt to use it, but I used hard rubber grommets to mount it and it worked great. I got a different center guide that clamps the wood in much better. It didn't take much more then a few dollars and some time to get it to work great. I made handles for my fondue forks and a feww bowls for spices. ... show more

This machine is woefully underpowered and very poorly assembled. There is wobble and in-out slop on the headstock, and the tailstock has very limited travel. can't even drill all the way through a 2.25 inch pen blank without flipping it. It works fine if all you're going to do is sand and polish. But for actual wood turning, fork over the extra $100 or so and get an actual lathe (like an 8 x 12 inch). This little lathe is awesome! I honestly didn't think it would be so well made but was surprised. I've used it the better part of the day with zero problems. Instructions are good and readable. Although you do have to remove a couple motor mount screws to be able to attach the two rear feet but that wasn't hard to figure out or hard to do. It's solid made and feels heavy duty and has enough weight that it doesn't vibrate everywhere up to around 2000 rpm. Compact size. And a great price. ... show more
