  • Quirky but motivated little saw that is definitely not a toy
This is a slick little saw that gets it done, but is a bit of an adventure along the way. It arrives as a complete kit. Everything needed is included, even gloves and safety googles, and a spare chain. But some assembly is required, and the instructions are so-so, in particular around the installation of the spring for the top chain guard. Flip it around a few times and just remember when the spring works, it's trying to pull the guard down over the chain, and eventually you'll figure it out. Speaking of a spare chain, while I appreciate the extra chain, why are there two different packages? I -think- they're identical? But the manual doesn't say and so in the end I flipped a coin. They're probably both right? When you have the bar and chain on, then you put the sprocket cover on. This is a bit of a balancing act with any saw, but on this there is a pin on the sprocket cover that goes into the body. [pic] These are both plastic parts and so not quite the right fit. Save yourself some grief and seat the sprocket cover pin once first before trying to do it while balancing the bar & chain. It's very light, which is nice and convenient but also means on some woods it hops around. It'll still cut, just not cleanly. So the evergreen here (which is hard) is a pretty rough cut. But the larger branch cut clean. There's a small learning curve to using it well. The manual, however... Yeah, the manual needs work. It's "for" this saw, but clearly cut and paste from other saws. The pics are wrong, the instructions are wrong, and stuff's just straight up missing. So no A) there is no chain brake, B) no there's no oil tank, C) there's no place for your other hand! Which also leaves you with a little oil jar and no instructions. I guess just drip it on the chain from time to time? So outrageous manual aside, cut it does! Light and easy to handle, this merrily cut through branches faster than a pruner and I definitely like it. I am going to make a holster for it on the tractor so it's always at the ready, because it makes short work of even bigger branches. So ultimately 5 stars just for how well it works. ... show more

  • Very handy saw. Quality is equal to what you pay for.
The media could not be loaded. Initial thoughts are ok. When you first take a look at this mini chain saw you need to keep in mind what you paid for it. You didn’t spend $200 like you would for an orange S brand, you paid around $40 for it. That being said when looking at the plastic you get that cheap plastic feel. When turning on the motor you see sparks from the motor which is normal, but you know this is not a brushless motor. The batteries seems super light, light enough that I didn’t worry about hanging it from a wall outlet. Batteries are charged by plugging into them with an ac adapter. The mini chainsaw requires assembly. It’s not too hard but there are a couple tricky parts. First you need to assemble the chain and bar which requires you to adjust the tightening screw, place the chain and bar in place, and then place the top cover on and snug up the nut. Once you have it snug you need to tighten the chain so there is a small amount of slack in it when pulling down on the chain. Once you have it tightened properly twist the nut and tighten it. They provide a toy screwdriver to adjust the chain, throw it away and bring a real Phillips screwdriver to do the job. Next you’ll need to install the top guard. There is a spring and metal bushing and the plastic screw. You’ll need to preload the spring when installing it, it’s a little tough but can be done. So my opinion of these mini chainsaws is that they are great. I had a ton of pine trees that were dying for whatever reason and their bottom branches were all dead. They were all around 2-3” in diameter. This mini chainsaw allows you to climb a ladder, hold on to something with your left hand, and then saw a branch with your right hand. Very handy and easy to use. Speaking of right hand and left hand, this saw is designed for right hand use. You need to push a safety trigger with your thumb and then it will start up. Left hand use might be tough. This would be very handy around a campfire for the small stuff. Don’t expect to cut anything over 5-6” in diameter. Longevity of the saw is a very valid question. It may last a week or it may last 5 years of light use. Your goal buying this is to make back your initial investment. This sure beats sawing by hand. Dual batteries are nice. I’m guessing you’ll get a fair amount of work done between the two batteries. Two chains are included and they are super cheap to buy if you need to get a 5 pack of them. I use some old motor oil to dip the chain in once every other cut. Or you could use bar oil if you have some. I wasn’t able to hold the branch when I filmed my video, that’s why you see some chattering. Keep your free hand away from the saw that’s for sure. ... show more

  • OK 6 Inch Mini Chainsaw with Some Issues
First for the positive attributes the chainsaw comes with two batteries and a storage bag. Now for the issues I had with it. You must assemble this to use it, a first for me with mini chainsaws ( I have several). The directions are very bad the photos are too dark to make out what things look like. Assembly was not easy and the parts don't fit well together taking several attempts to finally get it together. The batteries don't have a power meter or indicator on them, so when they quit you know you're out of power. The safety lock for the trigger only works easily if you use it with your right hand. There is no oiler feature - granted not many mini chainsaws have this, but it is nice to have. Overall I think there are better options out there and the frustration I experienced putting it together was beyond measure. My photo shows the unit after assembly. ... show more
