  • Worked great, and easy to use
We located a diamond ring lost in the grass in my friends back yard on the first time using this detector. It was easy to use.

  • Probably OK for a beginner
Having problems getting a surveyor to come out and mark a corner where a stake was removed so I bought this metal detector to find the rebar corner marker. The driveway where it’s located is nothing but sand with limerock on the surface so I figured this would be duck soup easy. I ended up digging 4 holes of nothing before finally locating the marker. At the highest setting I got false readings, and at lower settings it couldn’t pick up 1/2” rebar 6-7” under the surface. Back at the shop it found some brass casings hidden from view in the grass. There’s an offer for some free gloves if you register your detector, but once you register, the “free gloves” disappear, but mine still got here in about a week. ... show more

  • Minelab Intrepid
Minelab Intrepid. I'm familiar with Minelab because my first metal detector was a Minelab 340. I would give the 340 4 stars. I returned the Minelab Intrepid the next day. It had very poor sensitivity at the highest setting. Air and ground testing with coins and jewelry the coil had a 1 to 3 inch depth. On the grass at this depth the coil is eating more grass that a buried target. The coil is cheaply made. The bottom cover is flemsy. Sand and any kind of water in my opinion would not be good for this coiI. Pinpointer is not accurate at all. Testing on a single coin and pickingbup false signal around it. I noticed the same looking coil on other Chinese made metal detectors, so I would advise stay away from any detector with this coil. This Minelab Intrepid is made in CHINA. I noticed after returning it this Minelab Intrepid is frequently returned. ... show more

  • Don't waste your $$$
I recently picked up the Xterra Intrepid and have only used it now 4 times. The first few times using it all was ok it worked but wasn't all that great and then out of nowhere it started just going haywire and wasn't stable at all with its ground balancing. I tried everything and the only way I was able to get it to stop doing it was to drop the sensitivity all the way down. It's never been wet or dropped so not sure what the issue is whether it's the coil or the unit itself entirely. I'm going to be contacting Minelab about warranty and or to just swap the machine out all together for something else. Also the shafts are wobbly and the connection points aren't all that great to keep it sturdy once you adjust them. All in all it's not a good detector to buy imo. ... show more
