Very user friendly, easy to use. The GM 1000 has been around for about 9 years and is one of the best VLF detectors on the market, for the price, for finding really small gold nuggets. There are dozens of videos on Youtube on how to use this. Highly recommend viewing those videos, before you buy it, to see if it is right for you. I use this in SoCal placer gold deposits and it definately works for finding gold. You MUST watch the Youtube videos on how to "ground Balance" this in order for it to work properly. Works outstanding, once "ground balanced" which is easy to do. Its is very light and very easy to use.

This is my second "Nice" metal detector and by far the best one I have. Works very well and detects very small objects. I have not found any gold with it yet but I did test it with some very small gold samples. Works amazingly well.

Wanted to save a few bucks so I bought it used, and this thing came brand new! It was an open box but never seen dirt! Great deal! Super sensitive! One of the best nugget shooters for sure, been testing on a tiny chunk of gold, need tweezers to pick it up and it hammers it!

I picked up the Minelab Gold Monster 1000 Universal Metal Detector with 2 Search Coils (waterproof), and it’s one of the best entry-to-mid level gold detectors for serious small nugget hunting. Powered by a high-frequency 45 kHz VLF technology paired with a fast 24-bit signal processor, it delivers outstanding sensitivity to tiny gold flakes and sub-gram nuggets that many other detectors miss. The fully automatic operation makes it incredibly user-friendly — automatic ground tracking, sensitivity, and noise cancel kick in right away, so you spend less time fiddling with settings and more time detecting. It comes with two coils: the larger 10x6" DD for better ground coverage and depth on bigger nuggets, and the compact 5" coil that excels in tight, trashy areas or for pinpointing small pieces. Both coils are fully waterproof, which is great for working wet ground or shallow streams. In real-world use, the Gold Monster runs very smoothly in highly mineralized soils (a known strength of Minelab detectors) with minimal false signals when set properly. The lightweight build (just 2.94 lbs) makes it comfortable for all-day hunts, and the collapsible shaft packs down nicely for transport. I researched this product as a beginner and saw the minelab videos as well. They advertise the device for beginners, but you soon learn the metal detector is not accurate for detecting just gold. You must have more expert knowledge on reading the gauge. It is not a "that's gold" or "thats junk or iron" device. Its praises are very over hyped. I used it twice to help search for placer gold in my pans, but a lesser device for way less money does the same thing. Not happy at all.

I never had a metal detector so I did a lot of research. I asked Jeff Williams who is a gold miner and geologists with his own gold mining YouTube. Works awesome. I easily found gold in my first try. Do not buy cheap metal doctors. Thank you Jeff Williams for recommending Mind Lab. Best buy I ever did. No ground balancing just turn it on and you will easily find gold!!!
