Update - 4 months in -------------- Decided to do a follow up since it's getting into the summer time now and I've had this now for the past 4 months. For context I live in the inland empire with dry desert California climate. As we speak right now It's 97 degrees in my room of around 350-400 ft. I bought this to circumvent issues I was having with my central AC that my landlord is being extremely stingy about getting properly fixed that froze on me last summer, and even froze on me this week when I turned it on again for this extremely hot weather. Ive primarily have used it before in hot weather so I knew it would work but I was worried that I was crossing the threshold of efficiency where it would be better to simply use my AC instead of doing my hacky solution. Except for trying to get the ac fixed and this past week I have not turned on my AC a single time during this summer or this week with over 90 degree weather. And this has been not only working, but still working more efficiently than my AC for my space. It's really good at being able to regulate itself at a decent level when your room is at the temperature that you set. For my case however I do run this at 78, which is fine for me. The degrees it shows will be about 2-3 degrees cooler in your room to whatever you set it too, but I know that a lot of people like it way colder than I do in my room. The colder you run this unit, the less efficient it'll be, especially when your trying to work with extreme temperatures. I do suggest getting the warranty when you get this unit as the actual pipe you get with the unit is extremely flimsy and super expensive (around 60-100 dollars last time I looked). I had some damage on mine from setting it up, but found a workaround with drilling in screws instead to keep it in place, but I still got a replacement sitting in my room after sending them pictures from that. There are automations that come with the app that would help to make it more efficient I haven't played around with, but I suggest you do so as the only issue I've had running this consistently is it running when it's cooler outside, but my room retaining a lot of heat naturally due to how it was built. If you do this, I suggest getting an indoor thermostat so you can control when you turn it on conditionally by both your indoor temperatures and the outdoor temperaturees, as I've found in my case especially after dark it'll be cool outside but super hot in the house because of the heat cooling off from the walls. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Im basing this on my first couple of days using this unit from a unusual heat wave for the past few days in cali, and not off any long term use from using the product I primarily was looking for a portable unit with the purpose of saving money in my small rental apartment. My AC over time has massively gone up over time and very likely needs to get an inspection but even with it working as intended, it's generally a very costly piece of equipment especially during the summer. I have an all electric unit - so the expense is already going to be higher than if I had gas, but the unit also being broken and older has also increased that cost over time. The unit itself is around 70ish pounds, so if you're looking to move this around upstairs, then I wouldn't get this unit. It is movable but you really want to utilize the wheels whenever possible. In my apartment, the 2 ideal locations that I would place this unit would either be my bedroom or my living room, which can both be accessed easily by wheeling it to where it needs to go. The installation of the unit is fairly straight forward. I actually have not done any permanent fixtures with the foam as I'm trying to avoid doing that as possible, but I haven't had any issues with the unit being semi fixed. The noise from outside seeps a bit more like this, but this also isn't a unit that I need to use all the time - as I really only need it when the weather gets hot. One primary concern that I have so far operating the unit is the hum of the refrigerant as it's going in the unit itself. The first couple of days it was making a very annoying audible sound that was mostly machine like, but it seems to have gone away after operating for the last few days. If you hear this noise, give it a few days to see if it goes away on its own. The other issue with this unit is the flimsiness of the installation itself. It's very easy to break the clips for your mounts, and the replacement cost for those pieces is around $79 dollars on midea's site. You have a limited warranty of 1 year on the unit itself, but I can see this breaking very easily after some time, especially if you move it around a lot. The unit has 4 modes, for mine it has a fan, cooling, and a dehumidifer mode. From using the auto mode it seems to do a fairly good job once the room is set to a certain temperature. Generally speaking though, with any AC, you should turn them on first thing in the morning when it's cool, so it doens't need to work as hard cooling your house. It's easier for it to maintain a cool temperature, then it is to bring down the temperature of your whole house. I've also seen people say "it doesn't carry air that well, but also try to use it in a 1000 ft garage, or some other weird area. This unit is specified to work for around 450-550 feet. My room is around 200-250, with my living room being around 500 ft with obstruction that makes it difficult to carry air if my doors are all open. If you need to carry air, grab a fan that can carry air in your room like a dreo or a vornado, or any kind of fan that can tilt or has the ability to swivel. My room says relatively cool, but my living room right now is at a different temperature without my engaging ingenuity around it, but I am able to circulate air into my living room by setting up my fans properly. It's just a hassle to do that constantly. Otherwise, for energy savings from my wattage hours it's operating at a much lower cost than it would to use my AC. Even if I needed to get more involved with adding more fans to circulate air in my house, that hack is significantly less than the amount of electricity im using right now. I haven't gotten a kill a wat to watch the unit, but from my bills alone, the total operation on a fairly hot day seems to be around 4 watts, vs my AC which would easily take 10 watts minimum even on an average day.

If anyone is buying this Midea Duo large portable AC please note the covers of hose outlets are completely open and all types of bugs and critters can get inside. So unless you have a fitted screen on the window you will have to rig something up. I called Midea support but they were not so helpful suggesting rectangular air vent filters which would not work. My solution was to cut up an old portable sliding window screen and use the mesh which is flexible enough to clamp on outside of vent hose. I have attached photos of before and after. Seems to be doing its job. The window attachment clips on the hose are not that tight and also there are a few gaps around edges of clips and on one corner of hose so some duct tape to secure it is also advisable. The provided insulation tape and window foam are not the best quality and the window foam is much too thin so be prepared to buy some better alternatives. The good news is it seems to be cooling well. It was 90 deg yesterday and I set the AC to 72 and it is set up by open door and made 2 rooms comfortable within an hour. No issues with any leaking on dry setting. For the cost I think quality control could be a bit better and better grade materials provided in box. Also be aware box has to be upright and watch the bottom corners for impact as not so much padding at bottom of box and wheels can get damaged easily. Initially pleased with the purchase in 2023. I would advise taking Amazons additional warranty though Asurian for peace of mind for 3 or 4 years as only 1 year provided by Midea. Update July 2025…..compressor no longer comes on and have only used for 2 seasons July August September so about 6 months total usage and cleaned and covered when stored. Today after setting up for summer compressor would not come on and tried all troubleshooting and calling Midea but no solution and as I paid over $600 for this not a very reliable product. Luckily I purchased the Amazon Assurion extended warranty and I was fully refunded within 15 minutes of calling. Downgrade my review and would advise to look elsewhere

I live in Sw Florida and have a 24 ft cargo trailer that i converted the front half into an RV for a business i started and needed a portable a/c to make it livable when in use. I first went with the Shinco 10k BTU portable a/c because of the price, i bought here on Amazon for only $230 lol, i got it, cut out a circular hole out of the floor and used a marine "porthole" with a cap that unscrews to vent the exhaust pipe throught the floor, and the cap screws back on when not in use. The machine was nice and quiet when running and blew cold air out but simply could NOT cool that little space (12x8 area), even with it being an insulated cargo trailer that i paid extra for. I was extremely disappointed and gave it a few days running and even at night it would barely be comfotable in there. I boxed it back up in disgust and sent it back! I started researching portable a/c's and quickly dicovered that it couldnt cool because of it's poor design (you get what you pay for!), it used the interior air for the heat exchange and dumped out enough hot air underneath the trailer to rival a clothes dryer which meant every bit of air that was sucked out and exhausted from the interior meant the interior needed to "make up" that amount of air on drawing in new hot moist air from the exterior through the cracks, it shot itself in the foot, extremely POOR DESIGN! On top of this, the exhaust hose created an enormous amount of heat itself, what a nightmare! This Midea unit uses a "dual hose design" 2 in 1 and it takes the outside air for the heat exchange then blows it back out through the same hose (there's actually 2 hoses inside the main hose, 1 for intake, 1 for exhaust) and no heat from the exhaust hose. This Midea unit with the dual hose design is amazing, it instantly starts cooling and within 15 min started up at MID DAY its already comfortable, in an hour its as cool as your home a/c in the 70's and living in South Florida is brutal in August, it's been 98 degrees here with near 100% humidity. This unit EASILY makes cool air to spare, i highly recommend it!

I wish I had bought this unit seasons before I did. It is superior to a one hose unit in every way possible. 1. It doesn't create an air pressure vacuum in the room. I can shut the door with ease. I don't feel air being sucked in through every crack, crevice and window. 2. The hoses are housed in a covering that doesn't get hot. 3. The ease and speed with which it is able to cool the room is incredible. 4. Using the app to control it is suuuper easy and much better than looking around for a remote (though it does come with one). 5. The vent / swing is designed in a way that it puts out way more air than past units I've had. 6. The parts used to create the window covering around the two hoses is all superior to past units I've had. It's a strong metal instead of plastic and I feel that helps a lot with preventing air leakage. I love how it slowly ramps up from start to fully blasting instead of abruptly slamming on. There is a slight buzzing sound at times- but I've gotten used to it and to be honest if that's the only con for all of the pros I'm getting...I'm okay with that. I overheat VERY easily and I've never had my bedroom be this cool without having to seal it up like a biodome...and even then the units I had were working 24/7 to keep it cool whereas the Midea dual hose seems to be able to do it fairly quickly and then turn off. Also my electric bill is still low / reasonable. So yes, the hype about a dual hose is real. They are superior in every way and this unit in particular is obviously well designed and made with high quality materials. I spent a lot of time researching portable AC's and sat on the fence for too long over whether to go with a dual hose. I had probably been using the unit for less than ten minutes before I knew I had made the right decision to invest in this unit.

The A/C unit is pretty good overall, but there are some things that could be improved. First, the advertising talks about how quiet this unit is. It's pretty quiet when the fan speed is on low. When the fan speed is on medium, and especially when it's on high, it's definitely not super quiet. So the description of the unit as being as quiet as a library is typical marketing hyperbole. As others have noted, the foam strips and sliding panels for filling the gap between the window sash and the bottom edge of the window aren't great because once you extend the panels to fit the width of the window, you push in these plastic nails to prevent the panels from un-extending. The problem with that, is if you want to remove the panels, you can't just easily remove those plastic nails. You're probably going to have to use pliers to remove them (and hopefully they won't break). I wish Midea had designed it to where you could hand tighten/un-tighten metal thumbscrews (perpendicular to the panel faces); this would have have made it much easier to remove the panels when the day comes that you decide to remove the A/C unit (perhaps because you want to move it to a different room). The foam strips have, on one side, a very sticky adhesive (exposed when you peel off the backing). If you don't do a perfect job of aligning the foam strips on your first attempt, good luck trying to remove them and re-apply them. The foam tears very easily. I wish Midea had chosen a stronger material -- such as thick strips of felt. And I think they could have used an adhesive that isn't quite so sticky. In terms of actual operation, the controls are quite intuitive and work well. In regards to the oscillating air flow louvers, I have a nitpick. It rotates 90 degrees -- from straight up to horizontal. I don't think anyone would ever want the air to blow straight up And when it's completely horizontal, a small part of the air flow is blocked by the unit's casing. Midea engineers, if you're reading this: consider having the louver rotation STARTING at about 30 or 45 degrees (forward from vertical) to about 30 degrees below horizontal and design it to where the air flow isn't blocked by the unit's casing when it's in the horizontal position. I think Midea could also make it a bit easier to get to the water condensation receptacle, assuming that's even possible. There is a drain plug (at the very bottom), and maybe that's the only way to drain condensed water.

First off, this Midea AC captured my imagination. After looking at so many ACs and even trialing 6 different ones, I thought this was the "golden ticket." I ordered it on June 30th and supposedly it was shipped by UPS on July 1st! I was excited so I waited....and waited........and waited for the status to say something other than "Shipped with UPS." On July 14th I gave up and asked for a refund. The Amazon guy was great and actually credited me back my money. While he was chatting with me I noticed that the status finally changed. Of course, it took another 10 days to arrive, possibly because someone was walking it to Oregon with a hand truck? Once it arrived, it was super heavy, but that just told me of its quality! My wife and I took it out and saw the HOSE. Not very flexible, but I was still enamored because of the hype. We hooked it up in our bedroom, and it was definitely more complicated than any other AC I've used. Despite some gaps in where the hose hooked to the plastic window frame thingee, it was good to go. The unit worked awesomely! Cooled down the room quicker than the others I've trialed and the sleep setting was whisper quiet, although it did have a couple of turbo moments where you may think it was going to blast off or something extravagant. At that time, I thought of writing a review to counter some of the one-star folks who I thought were just easily upset, but I decided to wait a few more days. Everything was good until the 3rd night we were awakened by a series of beeps. It did this a second time, but I was too tired to figure out what was wrong. I did notice that the air was just a fan so I turned it off and just opened the windows. It did this again the next night and again no cold air. Used windows again, but the next day I did check the "bladder" and it had a ton of water, more than I'd ever seen come out of these types of ACs. I dumped the dehumidifier tank too, and the device was again working. However, it beeped again that night and I was ready to scream bloody murder! I dumped water the next day, but this type, the cool air didn't start working, even after I dumped the water. At this point, I was certain that the others were right, and despite being "free," it was not even worth it due to the complications with which I was dealing. Overall, I won't give it only one star as there is some good in the device, but I would not recommend this machine to even my worst enemy!

Better than I expected. I’m using it for a living room of about 300 sq ft. When I setup it up, the temperature in the living room was 94 degrees Fahrenheit. The outside temperature was 92. Three hours later the living room temperature is 80. I suspect it will drop lower. I put the unit in the balcony door. Just followed the casement instructions and added corrugated cardboard, which is an insulator, to fill in the door space. That door gets direct sunlight from about 1pm to dusk. So it really gets hot at those hours. The sliding door is 6’ x 7’. Thats a lot of sunlight and glass The only downside side is the plastic clamps. They take some work to get them to hold. Will eventually use some insulation tape. To hold the exhaust fixture in place. That’s a small price to pay for a fabulous unit. Because the unit was not designed for a balcony door, I’m using my 3D printer to make clamps and door guides for a better fit. Now that the room is cooling off, the fan speed has dropped and it is much quieter than I expected. I can’t say enough about this. Granted, it’s only the first day. I will update it again. So far, it’s handling Savannah, Georgia’s debilitating summer heat and humidity. Right now, my central air has succumbed to Savannah’s heat, and it may be weeks before it’s rehabilitated. This has been an absolute life saver. I’m now contemplating getting a second unit for the bedroom. The unit there, out of respect I will not mention the name, is not up to the task. When the central AC is restored, I will keep these and move them to my workshop in the garage.

When directly measured against the 12000 BTU Window U shaped AC this units increased energy usage AND air flow are not in line with the Window unit at all. Nearly 70% more AMPS used peak running and air flow nearly 20% less. Despite claims of dual hose airflow (eliminating heat transfer), measurable heat dissipation from the hose is present. As tested the energy savings were not noted. The hose heat transfer was not eliminated as suggested, and the airflow was diminished from what a "smaller" unit produced (and at a lower cost per unit). This is evident in their BTU ratings if you consider the meaning of the 120000BTU DOE vs 140000BTU ASHRAE ratings. In essence the unit "feels" like a 12000BTU unit with these numbers while sized at 14000BTU. At least that is my take on the standards and what I experienced real world at the unit itself (while in comparison with Medea's own window product). What I found was that the unit cost more to purchase, cost more to run, produced more internal heat transfer, and produced less cooling airflow than a 12000BTU U shaped window unit. Clearly the floor unit takes up more livable space than a window unit as well. For my money, this all equated to a poor purchase when the U shaped Window unit could be used instead. I would suggest the Window unit wholeheartedly. In cases that a window unit is unacceptable or undesirable: This unit used nearly as many AMPS as a 4 year old Midea portable "single hose" unit tested to compare this unit. That is extremely surprising as the Window inverter units use significantly less power than the older (mechanical) AC units I tested. This is really not the case with the portable unit I tested (and returned) with this purchase. I did not, however, that heat transfer was diminished by the design of the dual hose. It was not eliminated as suggested by the advertising. I have design questions and reservations about the dual hose design and that claim (not just real world tests that were easy to observe) but I did not test air flow or whether the hot air was recirculated due to the proximity of the intake and exhaust outside. So making statements other than easily measurable heat at the internal hose and room dissipation I will not make. Since I can state it improved (but did not eliminate) heat transfer inside, and that can be tested and recreated, I am confident in that statement (and I will not make a statement of the reason why... even if I think I can discern it). Overall: The unit works well for what it is. It is an improvement over previous generations of Midea portable AC units that I could compare to. It sis this in respect to slightly lower power usage, and heat dissipation from the exhaust hose. It did not perform, I feel, to its potential when in comparison to the Midea Window units. I would suggest the window units over the portable easily. If you are in the market, and can use a window unit and do NOT need the portability: You would be best served with the Window unit. If you need to upgrade a portable unit, you should consider Midea as a slight improvement over non dual hose and inverter based portable AC.
