It's quiet enough that it fades in the background when you're in the room. Works very well at cooling the space and will immediately switch to heat when needed. I've found it to be really energy efficient to run, too. It's no more expensive than a regular AC, but has a heat pump in it too!! They all should have this option! I'm looking forward to seeing the difference in that room during winter as a boost to my gas heating system and to test it's capabilities in a northern climate. I've had this unit for less than a week and it's already made life much easier. It's quiet and maintains cool very well. It doesn't cool the space as fast as my previous unit but once the space is cool it maintains very well. App and Alexa use has been easy. I love the horizontal swing feature because it circulates the air and it generates ocean-like sounds. Maybe if I tested the noise level it would be higher than advertised but my old one was 4-5x louder. No damage to the frame, some damage on the metal fins but that happened with my previous unit during shipping too. Very common. If you have any concerns about the u-shaped unit not fitting or the install being too hard, this one is a great alternative. ... show more

I bought the Midea AC used , not because I didn’t want to buy a new one but because I needed it much sooner than I was told I could get a new one and as I was doing a remodel I was on a deadline. I could not believe what I found when I opened the box. It was a mess of broken bits and had clearly been dropped w/ its frame out of alignment - too much to tell here. From the look of the box and the big brown cover patches used to obscure its travels from buyer to reject to the next buyer it had been around the block @ least 3 or 4 times. UPS picked the return up the August 18 and I reordered a new one right away which mysteriously I could have in 2 days just in time to meet my deadline and it’s an excellent air conditioner / easy to install / cools the home and very quiet. Amazon needs to do a much better job monitoring the actual condition of used items. 🤦♀️ ... show more

After central heating and air went completely out of service last summer, I have been forced to look for alternatives because replacing the outrageously expensive central A/C is financially impossible at the moment. So, I have bought Frigidaire, Soleus and now Midea window heat pumps/AC to match or exceed BTU rating of broken central unit. The Frigidaire is the normal (non-inverter) style compressor heat pump. Works FANTASTIC even in sub-zero temps with defrost cycles but is really loud. The Soleus is an inverter heat pump and VERY quiet. It also works extremely well in very cold temps with excellent defrost function. The Midea is extremely quiet would be easily the best of all three but for one fatal flaw. No defrost cycle. It will not work below 41 degrees F outside. If your outside temps never go below 41 degrees overnight in the winter, you may not need a heater at all. This unit would be perfect and by FAR the best window heater/AC on the market if it could only defrost. What were they thinking? They snatched defeat from the jaws of victory here. ... show more

    • This A/C is a little work horse and a great value.

I live on the Gulf Coast of Texas and this year's El Niño summer has been exceptionally hot. I have a small greenhouse that I can usually keep cool with an evaporative cooler, but not this year. The house is made of twin-wall polycarbonate, so it doesn't provide much insulation. This hot summer left me no choice, but to get a window unit to help cool the greenhouse. With the exception of inserting the batteries into the remote control, the unit comes ready to go right out of the box. I set it at 79 degrees using AUTO temp and AUTO fan. With outside temperatures ranging from 103 - 109, the greenhouse stayed around 81 during the day and exactly 79 at night. That's a 28 degree temperature reduction, but keep in mind, that's in an uninsulated building in direct sunlight. It's really remarkable. The unit does not run continuously on high speed; instead it adjusts its speed to meet the needs at the moment. The other morning we had a cold snap (haha) when the temperate got all the way down to 76 degrees. I went into the greenhouse and was shocked to find that the unit had switched over to heat mode and had held the temperature at exactly 79 degrees. I checked outside and it was working as designed; hot air blowing inside and cold air blowing outside. For what paid for this, it is a tremendous value. NOW MY COMPLAINTS. My biggest complaint is that in bright light you cannot see the numerical indications on the control panel of the machine, nor can you see what mode it is in. It is a contemporary design where the indicators shine through a translucent white panel in front. It looks great at night, but not in the day. You can read data off of the remote control (which has an excellent display), but that's just what you asked the machine to do. There is no way of knowing if it received the message. My other complaint is that there are some functions that are ONLY accessible via the remote control. The swing mode of the vent is the main one. If you lose or break the remote, then you are out of luck. I do not use the wifi mode , so maybe it's possible to control it via wifi. I would have rather had them not include the wifi features and reduce the price. All in all this is a great machine and a great value. ... show more
