  • Cool, Quiet & Clever – Just What I Needed! Cool, Quiet & Clever – Just What I Needed!
Style: 12,000 BTU (Updated)
I must admit that I was filled with anticipation about the possibility of an air conditioner that has a window with a U shape, and I have to say that I was astonished by the capabilities of this small device. I am beyond surprised; that is putting it mildly (pun most definitely intended). I was able to perceive right away how quiet it was the moment that I switched it on. In the background, it generates a calm, soft humming noise, which constitutes a substantial advancement over the cacophony that my prior unit produced. The design of this product incorporates a distinctive U-shaped structure that sets it apart from other products. It lets the window close all the way except for a small gap, which keeps out both outside noise and heat. The circulation of the air in my room is not only steady but also energizing, and it cools down quickly. The sophisticated control capabilities are among the characteristics that are the most attractive. I think that the ability to regulate the temperature with my phone is a fantastic feature. I don't have to get up in the middle of the night anymore. Furthermore, it helps me to monitor the quantity of energy that I use, and I have noticed that my expenses are lower this summer. Getting everything prepared and ready to go was an extremely easy process. I don't know how to do a lot of things, but I was able to figure out how to install it on my own in under an hour. Everything seemed to be well constructed and of good quality, and the instructions were simple to follow. The product that I purchased is something with which I am generally very pleased. This air conditioner boasts a modern design, is very energy efficient, and is physically attractive, in addition to performing exceptionally well in metropolitan areas. If avoiding noise and trouble is a priority for you and you want to stay cool, this is a fantastic solution! ... show more

Style: 12,000 BTU (Updated)
From the installation to everyday use, this unit is designed with the customer in mind. First, the design: the U-shape is genius. Unlike traditional window units that make it hard to close the window, this one allows the window to actually slide down into the “U,” which not only makes it far more secure but also drastically cuts down on noise. I was honestly shocked at how quiet it is compared to other air conditioners I’ve owned. Performance-wise, it cools the room unbelievably fast and maintains a steady temperature. I’ve used it during extremely hot and humid days, and it never struggles to keep the space comfortable. The airflow is strong, and it feels like the entire room gets cooled evenly, rather than just one corner. Energy efficiency is another major win. It uses an inverter system, so instead of constantly cycling on and off like most units, it adjusts to the room’s needs. I noticed a drop in my energy bill after switching to this model, which is a huge plus. The smart features are the cherry on top. Being able to control the AC from my phone is incredibly convenient. Whether I’m upstairs and don’t want to get up, or I’m out of the house and want to come home to a cool room, the app makes it effortless. Overall, this air conditioner is worth every penny. It’s quiet, powerful, energy-efficient, easy to install, and loaded with smart features. I’ve tried several window AC units over the years, and the Midea U-Shaped Air Conditioner is by far the best one I’ve ever owned. ... show more

  • Awards all around!
Style: 12,000 BTU (Updated)
This unit is incredible! Fits into small window in upstairs of 3 bedroom cape. Perfect for the side that doesn’t face the road. Had to cut out a tiny bit of vinyl along the very lowest edge of the window opening. About 3/4 of an inch to make opening flush with sill. It was a breeze with the handheld oscillating plunge saw tool from Bosch. So worth it. After putting the easy to use mounting bracket over the sill, it did pop in. A 12,000 BTU unit would never go in that window otherwise. The cooling is incredible and immmediate. The fan is excellent, too. It actually cools upstairs about 600sq ft, and has enough to spare to spill down into the main living level of the house, where it can be transferred with a small round cage fan (or in our case 3 to cover the entire house with that nice and cold air). Whoever invented the technology of splitting the condenser unit to sitting fully outside your window allowing it to close with the controls inside should be given a Nobel prize. The quietness of the beast is stunning. I would give six stars if I could! ... show more

  • Works well but rattles
Style: 12,000 BTU (Updated)
Overall, I’ve been very happy with this air conditioner. It cools well, is fairly quiet, and the installation process was straightforward. I also really like the app, which provides useful information and notifications, including alerts when the unit appears to be working harder than expected. The only reason I’m giving 4 stars instead of 5 is that the front panel occasionally develops a clicking/rattling noise. It seems like the front cover can shift slightly out of place over time, and I sometimes have to smack it back into position to stop the noise. The unit has performed very well and I’d recommend it if you can handle an almost constant rattle ... show more

Style: 12,000 BTU (Updated)
***8/21/2025*** My 30 day window has closed and an issue with a THIRD Midea Ac has cropped up. I’m posting a video but it doesn’t do the soul piercing buzzing justice. It pierces the ears from 50 feet away outside like a lower pitched mosquito. Hopefully You can see the copper coil vibrating. Seems to be primarily on a low energy usage. It ramped up and went away, but my recalled units didn’t do this. Midea is now 3/4 for bad machines. When I replace next year, it will be an lg unless something better is on the market. This is hugely disappointing as I had good luck before the recall. ****** ***8/18/2025*** I really love the wattage information provided in the app, however I'm running into frustrations that lead me to drop another star to 2 stars. I had assumed that due to poor insulation that these machines just weren't enough to cool my home at the designated sqft when it was 90 degrees out, as the machines would slip. What I am finding is that the machines prioritize energy efficiency over hitting the set temperature number. If I set the temperature to 68, it'll maintain around 72-74. If I set to 66, I might get around 71-72. If I set at 60 I can get about 66 (can't get lower and it'll sit around 700-900watts, still not maxed) only if I also use the flashcool setting. When I look at the wattage, I find the machine seems to prefer to run 300-600 watts. Only VERY occasionally (and sometimes randomly) do I see it hit over 900 watts. (capacity is over 1000). Why is the wattage important, the wattage=cooling and so instead of a 12000 BTU piece of equipment, a vast majority of the time my machine is running 6-8000 BTU equivalent. When I buy a tool, I want it to work. I appreciate the energy efficiency, but trying to game the machines to cool, is frustrating. The ieco setting is complete trash. If it does anything, it prioritizes economy EVEN MORE than a set number. Instacool doesn't have an immediate impact when observing the wattage, yet overtime it holds the temperature better than without it. I'd be worried about boosting with it all the time, but as I'm rarely breaking 700-800 watts using it, that seems well within what the machine is SUPPOSED to do. My guess is that the software is just bad at managing the machines' temperature output. I could reasonably see some slippage on economy as the user is identifying that's where the value is for them, but if I set a temperature, I want to hit the temperature. If I'm using too much energy doing so, I can always increase the temperature to reduce my draw. That's not how these machines seem to work. Lastly, I've seen a lot of reports of a high pitch squeal that I hadn't noticed or didn't have on other machines. My last replacement has it. If you've ever had your ears ring, it's like that but faint and there. It seems like something I'd notice with the other machines, and I didn't notice it previously. The machine that's doing it is puling only around 125 watts cooling right now, so maybe it appears at lower usage? This is new, but I felt worth mentioning. I kinda regret doing the recall refund now because I've had so many issues that I didn't have with the older machines. Although the cooling issues existed, they seem worse now and I didn't fully realize that the machines were gimped. After a lot of research about alternatives and comparisons, I better understand now how power = BTU and the efficiencies and what they should all be at a 15 CEER rating. Yes I'm getting efficiency, but I need to buy a fourth unit that wouldn't be needed if the machines actually cooled to their full potential and I wasn't doing work arounds to try to force the appropriate power draws. Also, when doing research about alternative solutions I discovered that this unit is lighter than the 85lbs option for the only equivalent replacement on the market, because a vast majority of moving parts inside are plastic. I've been hesitant about purchasing the competitor because initial price is 100 more, the efficiency is supposed to be the same, and I don't relish lifting an additional 25lbs up my stairs as the size makes things extremely awkward. My frustration with midea is pretty high right now. I want machines that work. These machines would be amazing if they could do that, and I'm loosing faith. ***Update 8/15/2025*** I purchased 3 AC's from Amazon to replace my recalled units. 1 is working fine. 1 had a serious rattle noise and then popped the 15 amp GFI circuit it was on. (My wife told me it stopped working. That wasn't the case but the noise it made on the exterior side was BAD, so returned. The previous model didn't pop anything and it wasn't particularly hot that day). 1 just stopped cooling. It's about 90 outside (AC shows 100+) and is set for 68, not an issue with the past AC. The room however is 77 degrees and climbing. It shows it's only pulling about 250 watts and should be pulling around 600-800 watts to cool the space (based on the previous recalled model and what it HAD been doing). ***update*** This unit seems to be working a fine (ignoring rattle) after a reboot AND resetting my router. I also lodged a complaint through the app. I don't know if all these things helped or one of them. Either way I'm still returning****** I have a fourth that I purchased from another store because they had a better deal and my downstairs needed a little extra cooling when it breaks 90 degrees and to reduce strain on that AC which was working hard. These units all sat for over 24 hours before installing. I don't know if the issue is because they rushed out replacement units for the recall, or what. My older units had zero issues and were fantastic. The two remaining units are working perfectly so far although will let the temperature slip instead of ramping up wattage to maintain the requested temp. The ieco mode seems like complete junk and I can't recommend using it as it'll let the temperature in the room slip quite a bit over what you want. Scheduling no longer lets you go "10am-6pm, then 6pm-10pm" you have to go "10am to 5:59pm then 6pm to 10pm" which is not ideal.. Additionally: When entering the app they seem to turn on the LED and sound requiring me to turn those two options back off. Some other settings also seem to jump, and i'm not sure why. This only happens when I pop into the app. The good: These contain plugs for the drain. These show the wattage usage which is AWESOME! I love this feature. When the machines work, I love them. I'm frustrated that I've run into so many that seem to not be working. Overall, I don't know that I'll replace the broken one with a Midea unit. I give this 3 stars because when they're good, they're pretty darn good and the 15 CEER rating is great. Yet, doing returns is frustrating and a pain. Also, amazon defaults to crediting the account instead of the card and buried that option meaning your credit card doesn't get refunded if you miss that detail. I have more to say about the return process because it's gone down hill, but long story short, it's not ideal. ******* I’ve owned the past Midea model and took advantage of the prime sale deal to replace under warranty. First year use tends to be quiet. Following years some units get noisier. I’m told they’re still quieter than other windows. The AC unit I opened has plugs and holes for drainage. Finally. The app has an added feature for the newer models that tracks power usage. I love this as I have three, soon to be four of these units. It helps plan and manage my electric bill balanced against comfort. There’s a button to get cold fast (not the boost which I think only ramps up fan speed. The rapid cool button uses another 100w of power, approximately. The ac took 2-5 minutes to get cold and blow out chilly air. It started cool. Once going, is very nice. No grill protection and pulling these AC units out of the box I've ALWAYS had some damage to those delicate fins/whatever they are. I recommend cutting a side for easy access and to avoid adding more damage. They really need some kind of protection, but obviously that costs money. The annoying: the QR code did not work for fast connection. Dumb. The app requires exact location. Creepy. Electrical usage for those new to Midea: I found my average use was between 500-600w. If it’s really hot and struggling I had readings that reached almost 1000w. My usage is a the second floor 400sqft space with poor insulation. A 500 sqft space with NO insulation. A space that is about 700 sqft on the first floor. (Multiple rooms). The apartment part of the house that has no insulation struggles to keep up with the sun beating down on it and when it hits over 86-90. I precool the space to bring the temp down at 5:30am and my wife starts work (we use the apartment as her office) about 8:30-9am in a cool space. The heat catches up about 4pm-6pm. Overall the machines do decently well. If you have insulation, the machines I’ve received will definitely perform to spec. The 700 sqft space I’ll be purchasing one more unit as the really hot sunny days the unit can’t keep up. Also I hope both machines will work less hard and get a nice balance of added cool vs electrical usage. I’d recommend these. My only other complaint is that the bottom of the unit now has exposed machine screws to snag on bedding and the bottom has various valleys instead of a bottom with a single plane so the water cold EASILY into the back. Midea created an amazing ac unit but really flunked some basic details. 5 stars is for the energy efficiency and the noice level. ... show more

Style: 12,000 BTU (Updated)
Update- over the last few months my electric bill has been 20-30% lower with this unit compared to a non inverter unit. It’s louder than I expected but still quiet compared to the old one. Highly recommend Ok so I’ve put in about a dozen of these units over the years. I have to say that the tech has finally improved! This unit weighs probably 60% of what other 12,000btu models I’ve owned. It comes with an exterior support bracket & at this price that is HUGE. I didn’t need it ( the bracket ) but it’s in storage if I ever do. Install was super easy. No problem lifting it by myself at all- in the past I’ve struggled with 12,000btu models bc they are HUGE. My shop is about 480 sqft & this unit is obviously oversized - but I’ve found that getting one rated higher for your needs is ideal. The flashcool setting is awesome. The noise is tolerable. WiFi is easy to set up - which is great bc the remote for this would be the only downside - bc it’s gigantic. The cord is on the right side & I wish it was on the left so it reached an outlet without an extension cord but I can’t complain too much about it. Just figured I’d mention that because it’s one of the only units I’ve ever owned where the cord wasn’t on the left side. Highly recommend this unit if you need AC & don’t want to invest 4x the money - or more - on a mini split. Ha- btw… if you’re like me and despise reading instructions, I’d like to point out that it does actually come with weatherstripping. You just have to look for it in the packaging because I didn’t find any ( weather stripping ) until after I finished installing it. ... show more
