Some issues in identifying different items not bad but still there

The media could not be loaded. I have two different metal detectors with a conventional round coil sensor, and one that’s a small handheld unit geared towards pinpointing a target. Over the last 12 months I’ve used these three detectors to try to locate the main valve for my irrigation system, and none of them was able to find it, presumably because of the depth it’s buried and the relatively small amount of solid metal in the valve. This new detector uses a slightly larger coil than my other two similar units, and it seems to have made all the difference in the world. After fiddling around with settings I figured out that I needed to enable PinPoint mode, and suddenly it was amazingly easy to find the valve! Overall the detector seems to be well made. The coil part feels solid, and obviously that’s an important component that needs to be able to hold up to some bumping around, so I was happy to see that it looks like it can take it. I’m not a huge fan of the user interface on this screen. I would prefer words over the icons they chose to use. In the end, either type will work, but I found it to be a little hard to quickly understand what each icon meant, so I think words would reduce the learning curve. For me the main attraction of this detector was the improved sensitivity it has over my other units with coils that are just a couple of inches smaller. I’m not using it to find hidden treasures, so its ability to detect smaller pieces of metal deeper underground (i.e. better sensitivity) was more important than being able to filter out different types of metal, and that’s what drew me to this detector. Once I got it into PinPoint mode it was easy to get fast results. I can’t comment on battery life yet, but I am a little disappointed that it doesn’t use a rechargeable battery. Two of my other three detectors use rechargeable batteries, and the one that doesn’t is quite a bit older. The only real argument I can see for disposable alkaline batteries is that you can swap them out in the field quickly when they die, but since I use my detectors mostly to find property boundary markers, irrigation valves, and underground wires and pipes, I don’t tend to be using the detector for long periods of time anyway. Overall I’m happy with this detector, despite my quibbles with the user interface. Going back almost a year, I had been searching a rather small area that I knew contained the valve I was looking for, but it eluded the three detectors I owned. After getting this new one with a larger coil, I was able to find the valve in short order. This detector has the sensitivity to find what my other ones couldn’t, and that’s a big win.

This is an absolute piece of junk! The instructions are incoherent and unhelpful and clearly not written or proof-read by a proficient English writer. The device pretends to have lots of controls and settings for different metal types but the device just beeps and blinks randomly regardless of how the control buttons are pressed. A simple test with known metal objects on the ground returned no meaninful signals. DO NOT waste your money or time with this item. (Maybe my unit just had a malfunctioning circuit board, but the terrible instructions make me suspect that this is just simply junk.)
