This thing broke on my first trip out!! The arm guard broke right off, it’s just made of thin plastic. Worse than that, the unit signals a hit every time you bump the head up against a stick or anything. I’ve placed targets in the ground and this thing can find surface level iron. Yet it marks all over at times for absolutely nothing. The allure of a cheap detector is to find parts lost in the weeds working on equipment, believe me, this thing is junk. Spend a bit more for a better unit and save yourself the time and headaches. Update: Avid’s customer service reached out to me and were very understanding of the problems I had. With a few short emails they refunded my entire purchase. It is accurate, but I cannot find a way to set it just to what I want. I thought I understand the description to say that you could adjust it to only seek out precious metals? You have to take it apart to store it in its bag as well, which is time consuming. But most are like that. Then you have to put it back together to use it again. That is prob a safety feature to keep it from getting broken into, in the shaft area, so I shouldn't complain. ... show more

Easy to use. My 6-yr-old son loved it and found all sorts of fun treasures. The downside was that the battery clip broke off the second time he changed the battery. Luckily my husband is handy and has a replacement piece, but not everyone can do that!
