My old metal detector that the kids loved to use bit the dust and I needed to get something new, since they loved finding all the little metal scraps and occasionally, a bit of coinage. This one is actually terrific. It is way more functional that my old one and the kids love it. My old one did not have a screen and very few settings. This one has it all and more! There are 6 different levels of settings, from beginner up. We put it on beginner which works great, especially if the kids are using it. It is that simple because beginner is automatically set without having to muck around in all the other settings. Even in beginner mode, you can still make adjustments, but it is so easy to do most of the younger kids could use it without problems. Just an fyi...we still have not done anything but beginner. The metal detector comes with a bright LED screen that you can easily see at night. It can finds things as small as a quarter down 10 inches in the ground, with detection of bigger pieces of metal even deeper. It is also waterproof and you can put it into shallow water. With that said, the box with the controls and the screen are not waterproof, just the bottom tubing and the device head. You don't have to worry about the battery getting wet as it is housed toward the top, away from immersion and near the controls. Like I mentioned before, we've only done beginner mode and since the kids want to use it, it will probably be beginner for some time. The set comes with other accessories--a digger, headset, carrying case and 10V battery. I don't know how long the battery lasts, but you might consider getting another one, especially if you are going camping or to the beach and want to use the detector. That would be a "just in case." i looked for warranty information, but it is not posted. The note on the seller site says to contact the seller for this information. Something like this is ultra fun for the family and with all the terrific features, everyone can have fun with it...and maybe even find a little change that my kids did. Lots of features, reasonably priced...a super fun gift!
