Originally I bought this for my preteen daughter as she is obsessed with rocks and crystals. However this is definitely turned into a family fun activity! We have taken this with us hiking and to the beach and it's always so cool what we find. The unit itself is super easy to get the hang of. the detector picks up things shallow and deep and the smallest items are easy to detect. Barn keys were dropped in the field and it took us no time finding it with this unit. I love that it's super lightweight so kids can also easily look over this. I would say it's probably more of a beginner unit but it is definitely worth the price

My husband and son were looking for an enjoyable and fundamental activity to do together. I purchased this metal detector because they both love discovering things on the beach. Since getting it, my boys go out every weekend and come home with all sorts of treasures. It’s exciting and a joy to see. The Machine has a very high quality look and feel to it; very well constructed. the digital LCD display is bright and clear. Also informs them of the various metals detected. The backlight helps tremendously when they are out at dusk. Equipped with various signals for depth of metals to the surface; accurate readings . It’s waterproof too! so no worries if the indicator lead you toward the ocean. You can go right in! We are very happy with this purchase. I plan to buy another

This is one of the least expensive metal detectors of this grade available on Amazon. There is one right now that is less and actually has a better metal grade display grid than this one has. This can be a little difficult to understand the depth and grade scale this one has. While metal detecting for the first time the depth gauage showed what I took as something deep in the ground and of questionable value (it shows the value as 25 cents, 1 cent, $1, and so forth along with a higher or lower value symbol- the same symbol). So I thought that I might have something of value deep in the ground. I dug down about 3 inches and ran across a large bent nail. I rechecked, but that was it. I kept checking the area and detected something that registered deep, but not as deep as the first item but it registered at 1 cent. I started carefully digging. I kept digging. I tried the pinpoint mode against an actual pinpoint detector and both showed the item was still there. I kept digging. I finally got down to about 6 inches and found a piece of aluminum; not a tab mind you, there is a symbol for that. I kept detecting and the depth range on the detector would show something deep, and it may be near the surface, or actually deep; while other times it would show it mid depth and it might be shallow. I dropped a penny on the surface and it showed it at varying depths from mid range to right at the surface. It did show that it was 1 cent though. I did try an older copper penny and it showed it as 25 cents (the manual says that copper will come up as that). I haven't detected in quite a few years and I jumped at the opportunity to have the excuse to get back into detecting even if it were just for a review. I will keep using this and playing with it because it is fun to fine things around on our 20 acres even if they are just old burn piles from a century ago.

My husband and son have taken this out to the woods a couple of times just for fun. They found lots of random little items, nothing of real value, but they've had a lot of fun together and have a few places they'd like to go "hunting" with it. They say it's easy to use but that it did miss some smaller things that they found on their own, so no telling how many things it missed that they didn't see. Overall, it's easy to use, seems well made, and is a great time for amateur treasure hunters. Even though it didn't signal perfectly, I'd still recommend for these reasons.

This metal detector is smaller and lighter than others I have tried. It has a LCD screen that shows the kind of material you might be detecting as well as relative depth. Unfortunately it's not as accurate as I would have hoped. It is fairly easy to handle and comes with basically everything you would need to go on a hunt. A shovel, 9 volt batteries, a carrying case but did not include headphones. Like some others at this price point. It makes noise, but it's not as easy as taking it out of the box and finding treasure. While this is a review of a free or reduced price product, it is an honest review of the product, no different than if I purchased the item at full price.

This is my first metal detector, I was very pleased with the ease of setup as well as the ease of use. The instructions included are clear and easy to follow. I was also glad they included a set of 9v batteries as those can be a pain to buy locally for me. The initial calibration to ground height is super easy to do. I did find that you do need to follow the scanning directions to a T in order to get good results. If you scan too fast or in too wide of a stroke you will for sure miss things. I was able to find a few old iron nails, a horseshoe, some assorted modern coins, and a single gold shrimp earring while searching in my backyard for about 30 minutes. The included pick/shovel combo is surprisingly sturdy and well-made. My one complaint is that the carrying case that is included for the detector requires that you break down the detector a bit to get it to fit (have to collapse poles, disconnect the main "head" and then fold back the coil. Also when you first turn it on, no matter what the volume was set to before, the volume will be at max as the detector goes through its startup process, and it is quite loud. For the price, this is a great intro to the metal detecting world.
