Key parts of this unit made out of plastic. Example the knobs to change the angle of the coil. If you have worked with plastic before, these parts will eventually break. Best to loosen them up after use. Other issue I had was with consistency. Notice the screw in the picture...I used that to start at various depths and it was never consistent at identification, item depth or location with the Pin point, but it detected 'something.' The unit does come with everything to get started including headphones, folding shovel, and batteries, plus was relatively easy to assemble. Rated as is for good family activities. They list a cheap trowel along with this flimsy metal detector so the rating is irrelevant and misleading at best (Amazon gets one star for allowing sellers to do this as well). The detector is made of cheap, flimsy plastic that I don't expect to last very long in the back seat of my truck, let alone actually using it. The adjustable screen mount has plastic teeth that grind against each other as it rotates to keep it locked in place. Not the best idea here. The screen itself is about as cheap as you can possibly imagine. I had an LCD watch in 1984 that looked better than this. The last section of the main tube pulls completely out if you miss the black on black mark that says "MAX", letting the sensor coil dangle by the connecting wire. Not to worry, just make sure you don't extend it too far and the little yellow plastic clamp will keep it from falling out as long as you don't bump it on the sand while using it Which you will since the plastic nut and screw won't tighten up enough to keep the coil from drooping down . You get the idea here. I'll update my review to 3 stars if this thing actually works, then I'll return it and find something more substantial. ... show more

This is a complete setup for someone just getting started. It comes complete with headphones, shovel, carry bag and even the batteries. I used it to locate metal pegs placed by a landscaper in my yard that tops rusted off. It picked up lots of other metal pieces too so it does what it's meant to do.
