This the first metal detector I've used and it wasn't too difficult to get the hang of it. Pretty nice quality and certainly does a nice job of sensing metal items. Lightweight and doesn't hurt my back to use. I'm enjoying this detector and have found some really neat things.

Thirty years ago I was really invested in high-end metal detectors, which are just a shadow of the equipment that is available in this era of surface mount components and miniaturized circuitry. This metal detector was a real surprise for me! The handle is ergonomically curved and super comfortable to hold onto. Probably the best part of the handle is the cuff that fits the forearm - it has a hook & loop fastener sling to keep your arm positioned in the cuff and really improves 'swing accuracy' while also almost eliminating wrist stress during long term usage. The entire device is very lightweight compared to any other detector I've ever handled. The telescoping pole/mast tubing is all aluminum and what isn't aluminum is made of ABS plastic. That's a bonus for making this device practically immune to moisture. No tools required to assemble or disassemble - something you'll do many times if you carry this detector with you. To power the detector, you must install the 2x 9 volt batteries - which are included with the detector. It's a turn-key setup, ready to use in minutes. That's another great aspect of this device - portability! It comes with a carry bag and a miniature version of a folding military combat shovel, complete with the serrated edge on one side...just like the army surplus shovels. It's a very cool, useful and necessary part of detecting...you will be digging holes. A lot of holes! Also thoughtfully included is a set of headphones so you can listen for the location tone in a noisy environment or if you don't want to disturb wildlife or people whilst using the detector. The volume of the tone is also adjustable. The user interface is very easy to use and intuitive, even for a beginner. The user's manual gives very good instructions on all the settings. As for settings? Yes, this device has a discriminator setting for iron, tin, nails, bottlecaps etc...otherwise you'd be digging around every few inches of most places I've ever visited. The depth sensitivity is adjustable as well. On the LCD screen, there are categories (with a graphic symbol) for Coins, Silver, Gold, Rings/Jewelry and of course the junk symbols for Nails and such. The accuracy of this device properly identifying a ring versus a coin are not tremendously accurate - but you will get an indication for sure! I 'buried' a few coins, a silver ring and some steel washers in my garden just to test the accuracy of the object identification and type of material and about 50% of the time, the detector gave an accurate result. As they say 'wait for the beep' and you'll get the news. Taking this detector to the beach was probably the best function I got out of it. The coil is waterproof and I was able to scan right at the waterline of the surf. Digging sand is easy, so I could focus more on the operation of the detector. It was at this time that I discovered the neatest feature of this detector - the PIN POINT button (labled PP) It is quite accurate and gives graphic representations of arrows for which direction to move once you have detected an object and desire to pinpoint locate it - the very center of the coil being the center point! Overall, I'd say this is a very decent & accurate detector - once I got used to using it. For the price point, it's an excellent deal. It's amazing how our advances in technology have made many things LESS expensive than in the past. Twenty years ago, a detector of this caliber would have easily been 4~5 times more expensive. It's good exercise, it's fun to play with and it gets me outside - a totally beneficial device that may even make me some $$ some day...in the mean time, I'm finding everything metallic that ever got left behind!

I have always wanted to give the hobby of metal detecting a try but - I did not want to invest the hundreds of dollars for a good basic metal detector. I did have a metal detector when I was young but that was really just a toy and not even worth the time walking around. When I saw this newly offered detector from Tooomplus at a good price I decided to give it a try. When I opened the box I was very pleased. This metal detector is very well built and strong. The coil is heavy and well sealed. The extendable shaft sections are aluminum and keyed to keep them from twisting. The knurled knobs to tighten the shaft length are quality clamps. There are plastic clamps on the handle and arm rest but they are there for length positioning and shouldn’t be under any real stress. I do agree with a different reviewer that a weak point is the plastic screw and nut that hold the coil to the shaft and I also may replace this. I am 6’2” tall so when I adjusted the handle, arm rest, and shafts, I was able to extend the length enough to feel real comfortable for the coil swinging. So this detector can be adjusted for most user’s height. The coil plugs in to the LCD control box with a screwed type pin connector for a tight fit. The controller is well built and easy to read. The backlight, when you need it, works well though most of your time you will be using your ears. The manual is exceptionally well written, better than many manuals we are getting today. It is 20 pages long all in English. It covers tips, specifications, assembly, battery info, panel (LCD and buttons), quick start, basic operation, cautions, and care and maintenance. It goes into the different modes, setting sensitivity, metal type testing, audible tones, and the settings memory mode. I was very appreciative with the depth this manual went into. The control module is function packed with auto ground balancing, multiple tones, depth, and pin point. This metal detector kit literally comes with everything you need to start from batteries, headphones, caring case, to even a really small and cute fold-able pick shovel. You may need a better, larger, shovel or a sand scoop if in sand. The only other thing you may want, which I will get later, is a pinpoint wand, but you don’t need it. A pinpoint wand is for location convince and if you also get one the detector has a clamp built in for it. I gave it a try and it performed very well detecting screws in the subfloor under a carpet and pad and under our hardwood floor. Outside, it found for us multiple construction nails and screws tossed and buried around the perimeter of our house. We will also use it to find my wife’s lost earring backings in the carpet. I will take it when we go camping and on RV trips since it collapses down so well. So I am very pleased this metal detector is not a toy. The build quality, performance, and options of this metal detector easily move it up from a toy to a good beginner metal detector – perfect for me.

I ordered this metal detector because of the price point and because it is waterproof to allow searches along water. We like to camp near beaches and lakes and I have always wanted to learn to use a metal detector to give us options other than just hiking. We are brand new to this and between the well written instruction manual and well set up detector this was very easy to learn to use. We have tried it out at 3 state park campgrounds this fall and have not found anything of real value but it sure has given us hours of fun trying. We did find a pocket knife and an old high school ring! The machine is solidly made, very adjustable and much lighter weight than I was expecting. They shaft length is easily adjust able and fits me at 5’5” and my husband at 6’ very well. It does run on two 9 volt batteries which are included and seem to last very well as we have not had to change them yet. The only thing I wish would be for the unit to be rechagable. .
