  • Grilling different size items
This device assures accurate results. Of particular use is the grilling of different size items to assure they are finished approximately at the same time.. I bought a second Meater to accomplish this grilling. The 12 item Costco porkchop package always includes one or two significantly smaller chops in package. I use two Meaters, one in each chop and start grilling only the bigger Chop. About half way to finished temp, I put the smaller chop on grill. With a little practice I get both finished (140F) with a minute of each other with both chops done right. ... show more

  • Well, it works better than expected. Much better. (Note: And yes, you can extend the range of the device...)
It's true - when the MEATER first came out (I kickstarted it), it took a while to actually receive...which drove a lot of skepticism. My dad, brother, sister and I all had ordered one and anxiously (and angrily) waited for it to come...which it did. You may wonder, why then a 5 star review? A few things: - You don't need to wait a long time anymore...I ordered two more of these devices, and they all came within a week. - The temperatures are accurate...trust us...we spent forever thinking 'yeah, this is too good to be true'. We tried it against all of our dozen-or-so wired thermometers (a TON of times), and the meat turned out better than when we had used the wired ones. - I see a lot of people complaining about the range...and I did too at first. However, one thing that the creator of this device should highlight in neon lights (HINT HINT) are their videos explaining that YOU CAN EXTEND THE RANGE. I can seriously go to the park with my nephews or watch a movie, and still cook my meat (NOT RECOMMENDED - FIRE HAZARD). If you have no idea where to find it...type in 'meater range' into youtube, I think it should pop up. - It really increased the types of meat my whole family were comfortable cooking. Their app lets you easily choose between beef, pork, fish and more...but then FURTHER lets you choose stuff like rib-eye, brisket, steak...and then asks you 'rare, medium rare, medium, etc.). Since then, I've only burned ONE piece of meet out of dozens...and that was because I fell asleep away from my phone... - It's super easy to clean. It wasn't THAT much hassle before, but when you're trying to keep your kitchen clean and 'sleek' and not have 3-4 wires dangling around, this fits in pretty well. We get it...a lot of us were angry because it took a while to come. I was one of those people...I seriously didn't touch the device cause it took so long to come and I was bitter. But, I'm glad I eventually did open and use it cause it works better than advertised. Note: A few buddies of mine ordered some 'knock-off' versions of this device because they were cheaper...that ended up being a big mistake. The quality was poor and their accuracy was super off... ... show more

  • Buy it!
This product is worth the money, it can be used very easy on the app, but you do have to be somewhat close to the grill for it to work. It is very easy to clean, and it works perfect, it is easy to understand. If you are tired of the cheap ones not working as described, then purchase this one as you won't regret it! ... show more

This is great! It’s great the you can control everything from the app! Gives you freedom to not need to stand by grill/smoker during cooking.

  • Work in progress - disconnects on grill shelf
It seems to be a work in progress. I had a connectivity problem and their ticket system could use improvements. They advised that it could be a small film on the ambient probe interfering with charging and to clean it off. After 20 hours in the cradle, encountered a completely unrelated problem where it reports 50% charge but is actually fully charged. I found their number in the responses to 1 star reviews and talked to them. They are very personable and ready to help on the phone and informed me that the 50% issue is a firmware bug, so I proceeded to place in the grill and it seemed to maintain connection. I'll try again tomorrow when I am doing a meat that will be in for a couple hours to see if it can make it through. So far, 3 successful short cooks totalling 72 minutes. the last cook time was 22 minutes before it ultimately failed. I upgraded my 1 star review to 2 for now as they are responsive over the phone and their slow responses seem to be mostly in their helpdesk ticket system. New company, growing pains. Update 4/29/2019: It turns out the range is fine with the no obstruction (like a grill lid being closed). I would have thought my ceramic Kamado Joe Classic I would not have been an issue since ceramic is not conductive, but sure enough, the range is really bad with the lid closed. They do offer a rerouting option in their app so I'll keep my eye out for a used tablet to put it on wifi during cooks. It's not the end of the world, but I think the range spec is a little disingenuous considering the typical usage for something like this will have the lid closed. For the fact it DOES allow me to monitor a cook on meat in a rotisserie and the fact they added the app, I'l upgrade to 3 stars. Update 5/16/2019: Well, it turns out it disconnects at various times with my Samsung tablet sitting on the grill shelf... Customer support is reluctant to admit there is an issue with my meater probe, stating that the ceramic grill is acting equivalent to a faraday cage of copper mesh would act on a signal with a metal gasket. In fact, it's a ceramic grill with a felt gasket, so should be plenty leaky, especially considering I sat a Samsung tablet line-of-sight through the gasket from the food on the top grill grate, through the felt gasket to the tablet sitting next to that. The last time I checked, felt was not electromagnetic and would not attenuate an RF signal. But nonetheless, the company believes this is normal for their meater probe. Based on what I've learned from this, I assume all meaters will probably experience disconnection issues. Be sure to order through Amazon and test right away in the grill so you can return if you are not satisfied with the disconnection issues I have faced. They offered to give me a "subsidized" Meater block repeater to use instead of the tablet. If that fixes the disconnection issues less than a foot away from the probe through ceramic and felt, I'll update here, but as of this writing, they have not committed to allowing me to return the block and getting a replacement Meater if this does not correct my disconnection issues. As I'll be away on business in a couple weeks, I will hold off on buying the meater block until mid June and will update this review with the results. ... show more

  • Perfect gift for home chef
I gave this Bluetooth meat thermometer to my son, who loves to cook, and it was a hit! We used it for a prime rib roast, and it turned out perfectly—tender, juicy, and cooked exactly to the right temperature. The app is easy to use and makes it so convenient to monitor from a distance. It’s a great tool for anyone who enjoys precision cooking and takes the guesswork out of roasting. ... show more
