    • Great for handheld and small projects, but if you have big projects, you may want a bigger model.
I bought this handheld knowing that I'd likely buy a full-sized steam cleaner later. I liked the price as an entry point, and I have not been disappointed with it so far. It's very easy to handle and move and provides strong but relatively short bursts of steam (under 10 seconds of full-blast on average). I think it will be great for general maintenance but less so if you've let things build up. For example, our oven was badly in need of cleaning (for health reasons neither the self-cleaning or oven spray approach would work at our home), and the MC1230 made a good start of getting it clean. It will take at least two or three more sessions because of the time needed (manual states 20 min.) to let the machine cool for refilling the 6 oz water reservoir, but if this mess had been months rather than years in the making, it likely would have been able to clean it in one shot. One thing I'd certainly recommend is trying the steam jet before using any of the scrubber attachments. I found the jet followed by a Scotchbrite style sponge to work better than the scouring pad or nylon brush attachments, and the sponges are likely cheaper to replace. If nothing else (and maybe just for me), watching a difficult patch of baked on crud dissolve under the steam jet was worth the purchase alone. ... show more

Machine produces plenty of steam and works as intended. Some attachments don't hold up well to scrubbing. Cord is a good length to reach where needed.

    • Works well for doing jobs in shorter burst...
at least for my speed. Cleaned gunk off windows that full strength bleach did not faze with just a cloth wipe after. Maneuvered well for me to clean/disinfect toilet. Have not gotten to soap scum on shower doors yet, but hopefully will work so I don't have to use cleaner on those again (don't like smell really, and fumes are harder on me each year) ... show more

Probably the worst mcculoch product ive ever used. The tank takes 3-5 min to heat up and only holds enough water for about 5 minutes of use. Although itll take you much longer because every time you move the steamer, the light turns red and it has to re-pressurize. Which wouldn't be awful if the hose was long enough to use. There are no extensions, so from the tank to the scrubber youve got about 2ft. Making the steamer essentially useless unless youre only cleaning flat kitchen counters. Even then, its probably gonna tip over and youll have to wait for it to repressurize. All in all, this product was a waste of money. Cant use it on walls without a ladder w/ a platform to put the tank on. Youd have to be on your knees to do floors. And the attachments are made of cheap plastic that melts with prolonged use.     • Two design flaws keep it from being great
It’s a good value. But there are two design flaws that really bring down the rating. First, the trigger is on the main part of the unit, so you have to use both hands to operate it. It’s clumsy and uncomfortable. Secondly, there’s no window or indicator to show you how much water is left in the unit, so you have to unscrew the top to check the level. But you have to unplug it and let it cool down to do that or you’ll get hit with steam and burn yourself. It works well, but it’s not as easy to use as it should be. ... show more
