Features

  • A safe and easy way to make kindling with no moving blade or sharpened object passing by your hands. The Log Splitter is a top-grade cast iron splitting head mounted inside of a 12in.H cast iron frame. To make a perfect piece of kindling, place a piece of firewood inside the iron safety ring and strike with a blunt instrument, such as a hammer, mallet or even another piece of wood.
  • To split a piece of wood, place it inside of the frame and strike it with a hammer. This drives the wood down onto the splitting wedge for a quick, easy split. There is no need to swing a sharp axe blade dangerously close to your hands. It s the perfect companion for your backyard stack of firewood, creating perfect kindling for your fireplace, fire pit, pizza oven, sauna, barbecue or smoker.
  • Kindling Splits firewood with less force than a standard axe. It consists of one solid piece of high-quality cast iron, so it s something that your grandkids grandkids will use to split their own kindling, if cared for and used correctly. The only maintenance it needs is a bit brushing off and maybe a touch of paint from time to time to look like new for generations. Create kindling for your campfire, wood stove, fireplace or pizza oven and you don't want to risk injury by using an axe.
  • Made of high-quality cast iron, 6.5 in. inside dia. top ring; 12 in. height. A safe and easy way to make kindling with no moving blade or sharpened object passing by your hands.

  • Good Tool For Building Great Campfires!
Headed out on a camping trip a few weeks ago. Dreaded setting up the campground fire since campgrounds generally sell you unseasoned wood which tends not to burn well. Used this equipment to split a batch of campground purchased firewood into much smaller pieces (roughly 4" x 3"). Then, assembled the logs into a log cabin configuration I learned from another camper. Add to that a few firestarters and voila, had a great campground fire ... 3 days in a row! Would have given it 5 stars if it was just 4-6 inches longer at the bottom. The current length is workable, but about 1/3 of the logs don't split properly with this length requiring me to knock them out and then resplit them by turning them upside into this tool. Overall, would recommend. ... show more

  • Need a grinder to sharpen it - doesn't split anything as-received.
I imagine it will end up working well - first, though, I need to sharpen it - I tried it yesterday "as-received" and it would not split anything. So today I am going to take a grinder and a file to it, and make it real sharp. Then I'm sure it'll be good.

  • Very effective
Split wood great but if you are trying to make small kindling, the wide short blade can prevent a clean grain split along the length of the log

  • Thought I was getting the Real Kindling Cracker
This does an okay job once you kind of figure things out. 1. Obviously, you need to leave about an inch all the way around the wood you are trying to split or it will lock up against the ring. 2. Could really stand to be just a little taller, if you have wood that is "stringy" and does not want to split straight, the added height would help. 3. Is AWESOME for splitting down smaller pieces of kindling. I have found the trick is give it a good smack or two with the sledge to start it (I use a 3 lb hand sledge hammer) then grab the hammer with both hands and really hit it hard and it will generally split right in two. If you keep trying to use smaller whacks it does not work as well. For Durability, not really sure. I have used this on two camping trips so far and the edge of the blade already has a couple of significant knicks in it. (no it was not from sledge because the ring will stop the hammer from going that far) These are just from the wood. I would recommend one because it is GREAT for making small kindling but you should probably start out with something no larger than about a 4 x 4 for the best results. trying to split anything larger it does not work as well and is more difficult. but you can have great control for making nice 1 x 1 fire starting kindling. At some point I will probably order the original to see if it is really better. ... show more

  • Great product.
This is a great time saver and much safer to use than a hatchet.

  • Looks used
Not sure if product is good yet but item looks used out of the box, can’t give a good review

  • Seems sturdy and well made, limited size for logs though
This seems like a good product and certainly works well for logs which fit inside the ring. I hammer the log with a 3-lb sledge and the log splits with little effort. If you put a somewhat tight fitting log in the ring, you will likely have to flip this upside down and hammer it back out. This is not an issue for a larger man, but might be challenging for a person of smaller stature. ... show more
