  • Well-made heavy duty compressor
I had a similar sized Puma which lasted for about 16 years, but needed repairs occasionally and eventually wound up developing a crack in the top of the tank. This one has higher pressure and more CFMs, and a much heavier duty pressure switch. I had to replace the undersized pressure switch on my Puma twice. The motor is huge and looks about 50% bigger than the one on my Puma. The compressor runs a little quieter and seems to run a lot cooler. It seems really solidly built and well thought out. The tank has a higher pressure rating. It has a really convenient extended drain valve that's easy to reach right at the lower front of the tank, rather than underneath the tank. It has cast iron cylinders, three separate air filters, copper finned copper tubes where the compressor feeds into the tank to help cool down the air before it gets into the tank, and a big fan/flywheel. The oil level site glass on the pump is easy to see, and the oil fill is in a convenient location. It has a nice large liquid filled pressure gauge that holds steady and is located for easy visibility. The pressure switch is on the side, where it's easier to get to and easier to wire up. The air coming out of it is nice and dry, with no oil blow-by from the compressor. I wanted something that will be really reliable and put out enough pressure to run all of the tools I use. The old Puma was almost good enough, but I think this one will be perfect. I use this fairly often for, painting, bead blasting, air tools, cutting tools, plasma cutter, etc. Works like a champ so far, and I'm really happy with it. Would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to pay a little more for a good quality compressor. One more thing I like about it is the three feet it has instead of four like some other brands. The feet have slotted holes, so your holes can be slightly off in alignment from the holes you drill in the concrete and it will still work. I think you definitely want to bolt it down. It's very top heavy and needs to be bolted securely to the ground. I have mine on a 6" thick slab with a little home-made wood shed around it which I located out behind my garage. I used three 3/8" "drop in anchors" to bolt it down, but you could probably use 1/2" too if you wanted to. ... show more

Very happy with it and their support team

  • Almost Happy/No such luck
Looks to be what could have been a solid air compressor. Looks to be well made and very sturdy. Only problem is both times showed up damaged/unuseable. Very disappointed. And no solution how to get one that works. Also looked into company and they seem like a very solid one. Might have to look elsewhere. Just wanted to put in an update here. Long story short, Amazon special big item customer service rep contacted me again and told me how sorry they were for everything that has happened. Aldo asked me if I would give Amazon one last shot at getting me this item. I agreed. Ordered it on July 2 and on July 3 it was cancelled. The delivery company claimed it was already damaged when they tried to pick it up. That's 3 times now item was damaged this time not even got to my house. Was a big hassle again getting info and now hopefully my refund again. Amazon has been decent in the whole refund/ kissing my butt thing.lol. But still no air compressor after 3 attempts in 3 1/2 months. I hope they do investigate this as they have told me and since I have sent them many pictures as they asked me to and spoken to at least ,20 reps over all this. Don't think I will try a 4th time and Amazon rep agreed with me on that. Hope Amazon finds out why all these big ticket items are being so miss handled and miss in treated. Really needed that air compressor. And wanted it through Amazon. ... show more

  • It's a good quality compressor but make sure you inspect it thoroughly ...
It's a good quality compressor but make sure you inspect it thoroughly upon delivery. Mine arrived on two broken pallets leaning at at least a 30 degree angle. I had to hold it up as he pushed the pallet jack so it didn't fall over. I did a quick inspection but I really didn't know what to look for. It looked alright to me as far as I could tell. Well, first of all... the compressor arrived with only 2 filters. The third filter fitting and all had fallen completely off. I didn't even notice something was supposed to be there till I sat and had a good look at it. So first, make sure all 3 filters and casings are in their place. I called maxair and they sent me a complete filter (casing, filter and screws). Second... check the drain valve at the bottom. When I was reading reviews for this on Home Depot site, one complaint was the cheap drain valve. It breaks off easy. I wasn't sure what I was looking for so I missed this when I was checking it out. But on the bottom smack dab underneath, is a drain valve. Make sure it didn't snap off. After sitting there for months I finally got my 220 installed in the garage and plugged it in... that's when I noticed the broken valve. You can get like a brass fitting for it instead if yours breaks but if mine came broken and I had noticed that... I wouldn't have accepted it. No reason for such crappy delivery. The way that thing was sitting in the truck Im actually surprised more stuff wasn't lost or broken. Luckily most can be replaced with better quality pieces. It's a good compressor though... but not a 5 star for sure just because they opted for cheap Chinese junk everywhere that breaks easily. But like I said, you can replace it with better quality pieces so... ... show more

Awesome!!! Paint, sand etc... No problem. Add steel piping system to your garage to remove moisture and you're golden.
