This is replacing an old 70's style ceiling light in our family room. When the room is in use we will use the switch selectable color temperature 4000K to provide adequate lighting for an 11 by 22 foot room. At night we'll use the built in night light feature at 2000K for a soothing dark amber light - so we don't bust toes! I've already tried the light out in a temporary mounting. I see how it works. It is very easy to install: screw one round plate to the ceiling, hook up the wires, then lift and twist the light fixture into place. Which is what I would already done except that I have a suspended ceiling with celotex. I have no doubt the wood screws supplied with the light would rip right out. I'm waiting for an opening with my electrician. A simple wall mounted on-off switch will operate the light. Turn it on, light. Turn it off then turn it back on immediately and you have the night light. The light is dimmable, but if you want to be able to dim it, you will need to buy one of their recommended light switches with a dimmer built in as a little slide bar on the right hand side of the light switch. I have some already. They are very common items in hardware stores. You choose what kind of light you want. There are three color temperatures: bright blue white, pure white and dimmer orange-ish light suitable for the evening especially, like in dens and bedrooms. There's a 3 position slide selector in the light just inside where it screws into the ceiling mount where you select the color temperature. The first pictures show how simple the light is. The base detaches easily and screws directly into your ceiling. 4 slots make it easy to install with the included screws. In my case I'm replacing an ugly light with this one, so the wiring was already there. 3 quick wire nut connections and I was in business. The last two pictures show it installed on my family room ceiling. The first shows it has a bright daytime light. The second picture shows it in night light mode. It isn't as bright as the picture shows because I used the flash, so make allowances for the flash. The night light mode is bright enough not to stub toes, but it is a very subdued amber light around the edges of the light. The day light used the quite large bottom lens, and it really lights up a room. You can adjust that with the little switches that control color temperature. Very nice! I had a chandelier in this spot and never liked it. Then I bought a different suspended style fixture and it was so bad it came down the same day it went up ! This light is in a great room and there is a light over the island ….and plenty of 4” recessed LED lights. This pIain simple light fixed a problem that has gone on for almost 10 years. Another awesome bonus…. This new light fixture from Matame has multiple light k values. Why does that matter? Because it can be changed to match the color of the recessed lights that are all around it. If I had chosen the color based on what the manufacturer called the 4” LED’s I bought 10 years ago, I would have been wrong. Either different companies test and evaluate Kelvin scale differently or the LED’s have changed colors over the last 10 years. Both may be true. Simply solved, I could change the color of this light after wiring and before twisting it onto its mounting plate, until it was right…..,until it looked amazing with my recessed lights all around it. Then this fixture twists like a smoke detector onto its mounting plate, so easy, So now I have this simple light that matches the color of the other lights, AMAZING it converts to a night light too and the light over the Island can take center stage! The yellow glow around the light in my photo is when I have it on night light and yes that is just as simple as turning it off and back on again…within a reasonably short period of time. One note on the night light feature, look to see what other lights turn on when you flip the switch going to this light..,as a night light isn’t a night light if it turns on other lights….or plan to have a good electrician put this light onto its own switch…not a basic thing if you have multiple switches that turn this light on and off. ... show more

I stared at this light for two weeks before I decided where it might be best. I decided the master bedroom and kitchen. In the bedroom it worked nicely to light up the entire room. This light puts out abouje 225 watts of conventional light so it is very bright. In the kitchen it worked very well and the selectable light temperature is a bonus in the evening. The larger format of the light looks wonderful in either room and the light output gives the feeling of a round skylight.
