Perfect For Dropped Ceilings

This is exactly what we needed for the dropped ceiling in our basement which had no light source. We needed light but didn’t want to pay an arm & a leg to buy a ceiling fixture in addition to the cost of requiring an electrician to install it. This hanging plug in light was perfect in that it was affordable at a good price point, super easy to assemble right out of the box, also works with LED lightbulbs, is able to be attached & hung with aluminum dropped ceiling hooks also readily available on Amazon, & came with a clear 15’ long electrical cord with an on/off control on the cord to be plugged into a 110V wall socket. The shade is plastic but this wasn’t a deal breaker, we’re happy with it as it suits our needs, would definitely buy it again, & may buy more of these lights in the future.

This hanging light suits MY needs, but I don't know what anyone else's needs are. This light, in my opinion would be nice & suitable for some kitchens, or kid's bedrooms also. I just bought a small condo. I am using this light in my dining room for the time being instead of spending $100+ at the moment on a much nicer quality light. The clear dome part is thin flimsy plastic, not crystal. Which again, is fine for MY needs. This is NOT a ceiling-mounted light with a ceiling cap, like a lot of the other lights you see on here, where you have to clip wires & tie them together & rewire/reconfigure & mount to the ceiling. You literally screw in these hooks, plug the electrical cord in the socket & hang it from the hooks. That's it. No need to call an electrician. No tools needed either. I have wooden slats on my ceiling that I'm using to hang mine from, not a flat regular-type ceiling. The outlet to plug in my light is high up on the wall also; about 2" from the ceiling. I am replacing an awful 1990's ugly, hanging, brass chandelier that's hanging there now. The long electrical wire is like a clear-ish/silvery color. The part that holds the light bulb is like a thin brushed nickel metal. It comes with 2 thin silver hooks. I will go out & purchase a decorative silver chain to hide the wire & also to hang the light from the hook & 2 thicker silver hooks to hang my light, but what came with this light, may work for you? I paid $16.99 & free shipping. I believe this light is worth just that. I've looked everywhere for a light like this, online & in stores & I couldn't beat this price. The item arrived a day earlier than expected & in a nice box. The plastic was not bent or warped, everything was wrapped in plastic and brand new. Lastly, this light is perfect for ME, but it depends on what YOU need a hanging pendant light for exactly. People gave this item less than 5 stars, but I gave it 5 because it suits MY needs & I had low expectations. People gave this 1-2 stars & complained because their expectations were too high. At $16.99, you won't find any better than this. I saw a much crappier light at Home Depot for $30.00?? & it looked like it needed an electrical engineer to hook it up & install it & way too much work. This light probably (in my humble opinion) may not look so great in a dining room that you see on tv like the Soprano's or in an Architectural Digest magazine. It's more for like a kitchen/over the sink light or a bar or den area, desk/office area, because it is made of plastic & has sort of a cheap feel & look to it. I'm not knocking it though, it is just simply my stupid humble opinion. So, take my humble review with a grain of salt & if you lower your expectations a tad, you won't be disappointed with this light. I haven't installed it yet, because I haven't moved into my new place just yet, but when I do, I will update after it is in place & being used. I buy half the stuff on Amazon due to customer reviews solely. I don't know what I'd do without other customer reviews. Thank you to all the customers that take their precious time to write reviews on products they buy. This is why I took my time to write this for all of you who are thinking of buying this light. I hope this helps you!! Update: 11/5/15...So, the light just didn't work out for me. I ended up not liking it. The cheap plastic dome was distorted even after much effort on my part to try and straighten it out/even it out. I am not removing any stars. I ended up taking it down and putting it into storage to see if perhaps I can use it somewhere else later on.

Cheap But, Note That You Can Automate This Light

I am very happy with this item for the use I intend it for, which is temporary. It did arrive misshapen and could’ve been kept in round if it had been packed in an appropriately-shaped foam ring. But, for my use, I’m not too worried about it. Perhaps, the summer heat, if it’s up that long, will help it to mold back into shape or, perhaps, the shad can be sat in warm or hot water for a time to allow it to reshape. Not sure. For my temporary use, I actually have it dangling from a ceiling fixture that needs repair and is not currently working, over a staircase, where life is needed for safety. If I needed to though, I’d certainly use this light permanently elsewhere. Is it cheaply made? Yes. Yes, it is. But, it is a nice, modern looking ceiling fixture that offers lightweight portability for those who cannot afford more, don’t wish to pay more, or don’t want to wire a ceiling light themselves. Most guests are not going to reach up to feel whether they think its cheap either. It’s weight is also good for not having to worry about dropping a glass fixture and shattering it or causing injury. As the non working fixture I have has Cree Connected WIFI bulbs installed, because this is a temporary solution for me, I simply transferred one of the two bulbs to this fixture. So, this cheap fixture is also an dimming, remotely-controlled and scheduled light, which I can operate via my iPhone from anywhere. So, although I, too, will complain about a products detractors (and boy, I’m good for that), this works fine for me, doesn’t look bad doing it, and I took it upon myself to get creative with it’s use.

I plan to buy at least 2 more. Yes they are light weight. The kit is sturdy the cord is not thin, but the plastic dome is very cheap. I have read that some people have found the dome crumpled and warped on arrival in the mail, but ours was fine. However I can see where any excessive heat would do that! The one peeve I had was that the light hangs by its electric cord. However because it is so light weight I don't see this as a problem. I just generally do not like to hang lights by their cords. It can cause a fire risk. I would advise slipping a peice of hose or tubing over the cord when you hang it up, or a little tape, to avoid wear, and not hang it where it will be yanked or pulled. I also suggest using LED lights as they don't heat up. Any light bulb you put in this will melt the plastic dome if it gets hot. For the price, this light is wonderful.The light weight dome and no chain on the cord to hang it by was the only thing I gave it 4 stars for. UPDATE (4 months): I have had this light since around April. It is now the first of September and I loved it so much I bought 2 more, as planned. I have decided to up this review to 5 stars. The cord is so heavy on this light and it came with nice plastic cord holders to screw in to the ceiling, which seems to have eliminated my concerns for a fire risk. I put the light on a breaker bar to make it easier for my grand-daughter (3 years old) to turn on the light. It hangs over her play area with a bright LED light in it which really lights up the entire room. I noticed that they have changed the way they package this light by taping the entire dome to a large stiff cardboard. This holds the dome in its proper shape nicely and prevents it from becoming warped during shipment. I know a lot of people complain about the light not holding its shape. DO NOT put a bulb in this light that will get hot! Use a bright white LED if you want bright light. Otherwise you will warp the plastic dome! The socket is made of brushed metal and porcelin. It would make a wonderful light kit for a craft project if someone wanted to change the dome out for their own creation. It also comes with some nice screw in metal hooks and accessories. I will probably buy more of these in the future as gifts for friends and for the rest of my house. Thank you to Amazon and Globe for providing a lovely light that is effective and affordable on a tight budget! <3

Better than expected for the price!

This is a simple plastic light cover with a bulb, but honestly it looks much nicer in person than I expected. Once it’s up, it doesn’t feel or look cheap at all. The design is clean and modern and works really well if you want something minimal. Installation was straightforward — the hardest part was drilling the hole in the ceiling, not the light itself. I also appreciated that it comes with a clip to hold the cord, which is a small detail but makes a big difference for keeping everything neat. Overall, it’s a great option if you want a nice-looking light without spending a lot. Very happy with it.

A bit better than expected.

What one would expect from a lamp under $20. The sales literature write up seemed to imply a dimmer function to the switch, it is in fact just on or off. Now for the good. I could not find a simple hanging (swag) lamp for under $50. This lamp is ion a gazebo on the deck and is lightweight which in this case is a plus. Good quality cord and long enough to almost reach the floor in the corner after being routed from the center of the gazebo (the lamp hanging down 4 feet) along the braces and down one of the support uprights...so they were no chintzy on the cord. Now hanging, it looks quite acceptable. If someone needs an inexpensive hanging lamp (it is only rated for one 60 watt bulb) then I would recommend it as the best you'll find for the price. Swap out the incandescent with a brighter 60 watt fluorescent and it does a nice job of illumination.

Simple and nice, elegant and practical effect. Very lightweight so it doesn't pull on the cord. The cord on mine was a clear plastic, no colour, which was perfect my own application. Nice ceramic socket. The switch on mine does NOT have dimmer, which is what I wanted, no dimmer. Very pleased with this cost effective resolution to replacing the prior plug in lamp. Very happy with this.
