I plan to buy at least 2 more. Yes they are light weight. The kit is sturdy the cord is not thin, but the plastic dome is very cheap. I have read that some people have found the dome crumpled and warped on arrival in the mail, but ours was fine. However I can see where any excessive heat would do that! The one peeve I had was that the light hangs by its electric cord. However because it is so light weight I don't see this as a problem. I just generally do not like to hang lights by their cords. It can cause a fire risk. I would advise slipping a peice of hose or tubing over the cord when you hang it up, or a little tape, to avoid wear, and not hang it where it will be yanked or pulled. I also suggest using LED lights as they don't heat up. Any light bulb you put in this will melt the plastic dome if it gets hot. For the price, this light is wonderful.The light weight dome and no chain on the cord to hang it by was the only thing I gave it 4 stars for. UPDATE (4 months): I have had this light since around April. It is now the first of September and I loved it so much I bought 2 more, as planned. I have decided to up this review to 5 stars. The cord is so heavy on this light and it came with nice plastic cord holders to screw in to the ceiling, which seems to have eliminated my concerns for a fire risk. I put the light on a breaker bar to make it easier for my grand-daughter (3 years old) to turn on the light. It hangs over her play area with a bright LED light in it which really lights up the entire room. I noticed that they have changed the way they package this light by taping the entire dome to a large stiff cardboard. This holds the dome in its proper shape nicely and prevents it from becoming warped during shipment. I know a lot of people complain about the light not holding its shape. DO NOT put a bulb in this light that will get hot! Use a bright white LED if you want bright light. Otherwise you will warp the plastic dome! The socket is made of brushed metal and porcelin. It would make a wonderful light kit for a craft project if someone wanted to change the dome out for their own creation. It also comes with some nice screw in metal hooks and accessories. I will probably buy more of these in the future as gifts for friends and for the rest of my house. This is a simple plastic light cover with a bulb, but honestly it looks much nicer in person than I expected. Once it’s up, it doesn’t feel or look cheap at all. The design is clean and modern and works really well if you want something minimal. Installation was straightforward — the hardest part was drilling the hole in the ceiling, not the light itself. I also appreciated that it comes with a clip to hold the cord, which is a small detail but makes a big difference for keeping everything neat. I bought one new one because I needed a hanging lamp over my desk - my desk lamp was putting the light where I needed it. I have no complaints, the shade was slightly warped but after putting it out in the sun for awhile the shade returned to its true shape. I use daylight LED bulbs (of varying wattages) and the light is good, and because of the translucent shade, unlike warehouse metal pendant lights the light shines through the shade and lights up the area above the light as well. Since then I bought a used one to replace a pendant light over two computers and that too came with a warped shade but putting it out in the sun is an easy fix, and I've since ordered two more used ones, one as a spare and one to put in a dark passageway. They serve their purpose and I have no complaints so far. I bought two more "used" ones from Amazon. The first one I opened and tested had a problem with the switch. I opened the switch and was surprised to see that the wires weren't attached to the contacts in the switch, almost seems as if they weren't attached but I got light on initial roll of switch then it blinked and went out. I didn't like this switch since it seemed the cut wires were simply pushed down into a kind of u-shaped contact with the top squeezed together so I took it off and put on a rocker switch that I had where you strip the wires and then screw down into place. I feel this is a better switch. The other light worked when I tested it, so out of 4 lights bought, one new, three "used", only one had a problem. UPDATE Bought one more used light and that is fine, so I now have 5 lights and all are okay. I put one in my parents' bedroom over their bed since my Mom likes to read and do crosswords in bed and the current arrangement doesn't allow for bedside tables with lamps. The only other light source near the bed was the wall light, but she would have to get out of bed to turn off the light so this light is perfect since the switch is near the head of the bed and she can reach it easily to turn it off. All lights have been in daily use for over a year now and have held up well with daily turning on and off (those that still have the roll switch that came with the lamp). I suppose if you wanted it to look a bit more elegant you could attach a chain to the wire (either by tying the wire to the chain or by removing the switch and threading the wire through the chain and replacing the switch). ... show more

Nice ceramic socket. The switch on mine does NOT have dimmer, which is what I wanted, no dimmer. Very pleased with this cost effective resolution to replacing the prior plug in lamp. This hanging light suits MY needs, but I don't know what anyone else's needs are. This light, in my opinion would be nice & suitable for some kitchens, or kid's bedrooms also. I just bought a small condo. I am using this light in my dining room for the time being instead of spending $100+ at the moment on a much nicer quality light. The clear dome part is thin flimsy plastic, not crystal. Which again, is fine for MY needs. This is NOT a ceiling-mounted light with a ceiling cap, like a lot of the other lights you see on here, where you have to clip wires & tie them together & rewire/reconfigure & mount to the ceiling. You literally screw in these hooks, plug the electrical cord in the socket & hang it from the hooks. That's it. No need to call an electrician. No tools needed either. I have wooden slats on my ceiling that I'm using to hang mine from, not a flat regular-type ceiling. The outlet to plug in my light is high up on the wall also; about 2" from the ceiling. I am replacing an awful 1990's ugly, hanging, brass chandelier that's hanging there now. The long electrical wire is like a clear-ish/silvery color. The part that holds the light bulb is like a thin brushed nickel metal. It comes with 2 thin silver hooks. I will go out & purchase a decorative silver chain to hide the wire & also to hang the light from the hook & 2 thicker silver hooks to hang my light, but what came with this light, may work for you? I paid $16.99 & free shipping. I believe this light is worth just that. I've looked everywhere for a light like this, online & in stores & I couldn't beat this price. The item arrived a day earlier than expected & in a nice box. The plastic was not bent or warped, everything was wrapped in plastic and brand new. Lastly, this light is perfect for ME, but it depends on what YOU need a hanging pendant light for exactly. People gave this item less than 5 stars, but I gave it 5 because it suits MY needs & I had low expectations. People gave this 1-2 stars & complained because their expectations were too high. At $16.99, you won't find any better than this. I saw a much crappier light at Home Depot for $30.00?? & it looked like it needed an electrical engineer to hook it up & install it & way too much work. This light probably (in my humble opinion) may not look so great in a dining room that you see on tv like the Soprano's or in an Architectural Digest magazine. It's more for like a kitchen/over the sink light or a bar or den area, desk/office area, because it is made of plastic & has sort of a cheap feel & look to it. I'm not knocking it though, it is just simply my stupid humble opinion. So, take my humble review with a grain of salt & if you lower your expectations a tad, you won't be disappointed with this light. I haven't installed it yet, because I haven't moved into my new place just yet, but when I do, I will update after it is in place & being used. I buy half the stuff on Amazon due to customer reviews solely. I don't know what I'd do without other customer reviews. I didn’t know pendant laps like this existed. I have an old house that lacks ceiling lighting. My office floor laps never give me the light I need from all directions. I’m very satisfied with the length of this cord, the lap overall and how easy it was to install. It brightens my room well!
