By now I own quite a few DragonHawk products and this Shader was no disappointment whatsoever! I was highly impressed by the packaging it came with. From the wrapping to the velvety feel of the box it came with and the foam my new machine was enclosed it... I felt a bigger high unwrapping this than I felt when I bought my $550 dollar rotary machine from a "for professionals only" AAA manufacturer. You can tell this machine was assembled by hand by someone who knows what they were doing and all I had to do is turn my contact screw to my liking and the machine sounds and performs like a charm! It's nice and heavy and boy does it hit HARD! I can see this pushing large needle groups above an 11M but I haven't tried since most of my large mags are in cartridge form. It cranked up at 8V and found it running nicely at 8.5V with a 125hz (cycles per minute) and a 50% duty cycle. I also slowed it down for color packing with a wider gap (about a US nickel plus dime) at the point gap and it ran as a hard hitting color packer at 90hz and 45% duty cycle. If you're above the beginner kit level and are serious about tattooing and machine theory, this is definitely the machine for you! I'm ordering the Liner too just seeing how much I love this machine! Quick note, I'd most likely change the contact screw to a brass one because I really don't like the metal screw. I'd change the binding post too but the website says it's made of brass so I won't mess with it. Just buy it and see for yourself!! ... show more

This was my first purchase as far as a higher-end coil machine. I am extremely happy, I now understand what it means to have the feel of a proper running machine in your hand. Didn't take too much to tweak and get set proper. Love them love them love them will probably order a second set.

Not a terrible liner at all. Super sturdy yet still lightweight, and looks pretty too :) The only thing to note is that I could not tune it (while loaded) above like 110cps without putting the duty at like 60% :/ But honestly I use a slower hand speed so I didn't mind that too much at all. It packs a fantastic punch, so I'm sure with some new springs and TLC you could tune it up to like 130cps. I compared this machine to the Red Dragon Cast Iron Liner (on Amazon), and prefer this one because of its power and a bit longer throw. If you're looking for a cheap beginner liner, this is it. ... show more

Update to review. Ordered in May 2020 and have used the liner sparingly, about 10 hours of work. Had some issues today (1 Sep) and had to clean contacts, plus make some adjustments. After a bit of frustration and user error we are back up to speed. Broke out the shader for the first time since ordering and initially the machine would not run at all. After some cleaning and about 10 minutes of break in, the machine seems great. Will update this review again if more issues develop. ... show more

Im a beginner at tattooing but im apprenticing and my teacher said i bought a good machine and is kinda jealous. Hes been tattooing for 30 years so i trust his review. He told me its all how you tune a machine. Quality matter and this machine isnt short of quality. But if you have the voltage too high or too low and you have no idea how to ink skin even a 1000$ machine wont work right ... show more
