  • Easy and convenient
An easy way to make a cup of coffee that tastes great. Cleaning it is simple and you don't need a paper filter.

  • I love this filter
This is the best drip coffee filter I have ever had, lightweight, not messy, does a perfect drip. It makes excellent coffee without the problem of grinds getting down the side of the paper or the paper colapsing on itself and dumping into the cup below. It is also much faster than paper for making that all important first cup-a-joe. It is so easy to clean just invert and run water thru into the disposal. The quality of the metal is excellent and it is very well made. My husband is still using the horid plastic holder with paper filter, ew.... I guess Santa should get him one too. I forgot to mention I dont have to buy$ any more paper filters either. ... show more

  • Makes very good coffee, has one problem
Super simple, makes an excellent cup. One trick is to experiment with temperature control. I find my favorite flavor comes from using water at about 140 degrees F. I use an electric temperature controlled heating pot by Bonavita. Heats quickly, holds temperature within a few degrees. Of course using fresh ground beans makes the best coffee, but this filter makes a very good cup using your favorite brand of ground coffee. Measure carefully so you know how much coffee to use to get the strength you want. Pour enough water on the grounds to get them wet, and let it stand for a minute. I usually stir after pouring in the next batches of water, using a plastic or wooden spoon. If you want your coffee hotter, reheat in a microwave oven. Preheating the cup gets it hot enough for me. Pour the clean water back into the pot after heating the cup. Wait a minute for the temperature to come back up a couple of degrees. One of the best features, no paper filter, also leads to its one problem. The super fine mesh does get clogged up after several days of use. I have not tried vinegar yet, but I have found that soaking the filter in full strength chlorine bleach (clorox, etc) in a covered container for about 20 minutes cleans it perfectly. After soaking the filter, just pour the bleach back into the bottle. There is so little residue in the filter that you won't notice any difference in the bleach. The way you tell if the filter needs cleaning is obvious. It slows down a lot. Test it by pouring a full cup of water into it, and see how quickly it drains through. When it is clean, the water runs through quite rapidly. I really like this product. It is as starkly simple as a coffee maker can get. Quite elegant in its simplicity, and beautifully made. ... show more

  • Pretty good, until it broke!
Before I tell you about the disappointing breakage, here’s what made this a good filter until them: This was a great way to switch off disposable filters while still having great coffee with a tiny kitchen space for storage. I received mine the first week in March. Now, about three and a half months later, I can report flow (did* slow tremendously after about he first month, and I had to do *serious* cleaning to get it going again. (No dishwasher, so had to soak in vinegar and then boil a couple of times before getting great flow again. (Would try roasting next time—would be less messy, and I’ve read it can be very effective in cooking away the trapped oils. (I drink 2-3 mugs of 10-16 oz daily, so others may find cleaning to be a less frequent need.) Hot tip: To dump grounds in compost without getting them all over your kitchen, find a durable but non-favorite container (like my 32 oz plastic yogurt container. With filter upside down over the container, hold edges together with both hands. Lift 6-8 inches, then wuickly whack the ensamble together back down onto the counter or other hard surface. Does a great job of jarring the grounds i to the container, from which a spatula can easily remove them to your compost. (I never wanted my spatula to accidently push grounds into filter holes from direct use.) The problem? With less than three months of use, the base of my filter has come off so it can no longer be used resting atop my mug! Super frustrating. I have never abused the base in any way. (I always hold it by the metal tab at the top of the filter, or around the top edge of the filter for cleaning.) Replacing today with one that has a separate stand. Maybe this filter can be my “backup” to use with the replacement filter’s stand. (Sigh) The filter is top-notch and produces great coffee, but the cup stand was he loser. Mine was treated gently. Maybe if you are gentler still, or get the right one, you’ll have better luck. I would absolutely *not* recommend packing this in a suitcase or tossing in a kitchen drawer—it’d likely break immediately. ... show more
