  • Great trimmer! Sorry I waited so long to switch to a Makita
Style: Kit w/ String Trimmer Attachment
So, I bought this one after reading several reviews on the different makes and models. I wanted to start by addressing my experiences compared to complaints from other reviewers. -My previous trimmer was a Stihl FS50C 28cc gas trimmer. So this is my frame of reference for comparison. #1 The business end seems a little heaver than my previous trimmer. The battery end seem a bit heavier as well (it had 2 18V 6A/hr batteries so this is to be expected) This seems more balanced than my previous trimmer. It wasn't unduly heavy but it will wear you out lugging it around all day. But, mine came with a nice very adjustable shoulder strap. No need to buy one. Just use it for a bit and then adjust the strap until you don't notice muscle fatigue while swinging it. #2 Definitely seems more powerful than my previous 28cc trimmer. It wasn't stupid powerful though. I purposefully touched it to the fence and other things while on high, nothing crazy happened. I use it on the medium setting and it does everything I need it to do, and helps conserve power. #3 I didn't experience any issues with the bump feed head that came with it. I did go up in line size to 0.095" square line. This may cost a bit in battery life but if it cuts faster then it evens out. If you trim for a living you may have a good case for using your favorite line feed system but I saw no need to upgrade. #4 Battery life- Very pleased. I had to trim an overgrown small back yard at another property and this trimmer handled it magnificently. Grass was much too long to mow. Yard was about 40' X 40' and this trimmer nearly completed the entire thing. Had to swap batteries and finish the last 10% of the yard. I will normally use this trimmer to edge and trim my yard before mowing and I believe I will be able to complete this on one set of 6 A/Hr batteries based on how it did today. #5 Cost- This is the only negative for this trimmer. Makita is proud of their stuff! In their defense, it is a quality, durably constructed tool that looks like it is going to last. Wouldn't hurt to knock a $100 off each product in the line though (doesn't hurt to ask!). Long review but I am pleased with it. I love the interchangeable heads. Just purchased some additional heads. Love the versatility and I already own a crap load of Makita tools so it just made sense. Hope this helps. ... show more

  • Heavy duty workload. Not a problem.
Style: Kit w/ String Trimmer Attachment
I am honestly beyond impressed with this tool I live on several acres in rural California. I’ve always had a gas powered string trimmer. It’s an essential tool out here. We’ve gone 100% solar and I got tired of dealing with gas and maintenance. As a carpenter, I’ve been using Makita tools for a long time. They’ve always been a step above the rest. This Tool is no exception. It covers good ground on just 2 batteries but you’ll need more batteries to stay moving. The trimmer does not loose power until the batteries are completely dead. I would say this was what impressed me most. I expected to see strong power initially but then a steady decline. Nope! These batteries held power all the way through. I have 6 batteries and 2 chargers. With this setup I can run all day without much downtime. This thing gets the job done! It hacks through tough weeds and brush with no problems. The guard or lack there of that most people complained about is great if you ask me. Put some pants, boots and face covering on! Suit up for the job. It breezes through brush and gives this trimmer maneuverability in tight spaces. It is great for precision edging and can still handle a 2 acre hillside of 2 ft grass. 5 stars all the way. ... show more

  • Quiet with lots of power
Style: Kit w/ String Trimmer Attachment
I have used a steel string trimmer for many years. With the pressure to switch to all electric in California I told myself when it quits I would switch over to rechargeable. I bought this Makita string trimmer and it works as advertised. It is very quiet and powerful. I only need to use it with about a quarter throttle. I have about 1200 ft.² of lawn. I can trim the lawn and obstacles in the lawn 2 to 3 times before charging. Have not purchased other attachments to go with it yet, but I assume the quality will be the same and all will work well I highly recommend this strange trimmer. ... show more

  • The guard is just for looks
Style: Kit w/ String Trimmer Attachment
This thing works great, but I am pretty disappointed in the guard. It literally doesn't do anything except for cut the cables. Look at my legs in the picture, this is unacceptable. I'm gonna have to make an extended guard because this is ridiculous. There's no way the people at Makita didn't know about the guard being too small. Aside from that, this thing works great, has a very long battery life, and I love that the trigger is analog so I can vary the speed by squeezing the trigger more or less. ... show more

  • Powerful beyond expectation
Style: Kit w/ String Trimmer Attachment
I've been using it for a few months now. I moved into a house that had not seen an edger in about 5+ years. I bought this because I needed a trimmer more than I needed an edger. So for the next 2 weekends I put this trimmer through hell cleaning up the overgrown edges on the pavement. It OBLITERATED all the grass AND roots. This trimmer has 3 speeds and on max it was cutting through 3/8" roots. On top of all that I never had the batteries die on me. After that big job I have been using it for upkeep every weekend and it is a joy to use. My one complaint is that it's a bit heavy. But at the same time that's also a compliment. ... show more
