Description

There is growing demand for cordless alternatives to gas-powered outdoor power equipment. Makita is meeting demand with an expanding line of cordless OPE, including the 18V LXT Brushless 10” Top Handle Chain Saw (model XCU06Z). With zero emissions, lower noise, and considerably less maintenance, the XCU06Z is a welcome solution for cutting and trimming applications, and the compact top- handle design makes it ideal for the professional tree care industry. Powered by one 18V LXT battery (sold separately) for maximum power, speed and run- time, the XCU06Z uses the strongly-preferred 18V battery platform. And with the efficient Makita outer rotor brushless motor with direct drive system, users get high power efficiency that is equivalent to a gas chain saw. The XCU06Z has a variable speed trigger and high chain speed (0-4,720 FPM) for increased cutting speed, with torque boost mode for cutting dense material. It has zero emissions and reduced maintenance: there's no engine oil to change, no spark plug to replace, and no air filter or muffler to clean. And there's no need to drain the fuel for storage. Simply load the 18V LXT Lithium-Ion battery (sold separately), and the saw is ready to use. Convenience features include adjustable automatic chain lubrication, built-on lock-off lever to help prevent the chain from accidentally engaging, an electric brake for maximum productivity, and more.

  • Perfect saw for a home owner
Style: Chain Saw, Tool Only
I love this saw (XCU06Z)! It's light enough that I can handle it with one hand, but easily cuts through 3-4" branches (I haven't tried it on anything bigger, but no reason to expect it will have trouble). A little assembly is required, but it's easy. You will need chain saw oil, so be prepared for that. I think they should have included a little starter bottle. I also have a corded electric chainsaw, but I bought this new one to reach a tree in the far back end of my yard where a cord wouldn't reach. I'll probably sell the other saw now; this one is just too convenient. After cutting maybe 20 1-2" branches and a couple of 4" branches, the 2 Ah battery was at 3 out of 4 lights. So if you have a lot to do you might prepare an extra battery. You could get a much larger battery, though that would make it heavier. I'd rather have a spare 2 Ah than a single 4 Ah. On the negative side, they include a carrying bag with the saw, but it's not big enough for the saw with the blade attached. You would have to take the blade off to put it in the bag and then re-assemble it at the job site. Not very useful. The box arrived pretty beat up and it looked re-taped, leading me to believe it might be a returned, reconditioned saw. But it was perfectly clean and looked brand new. Everything was in the box. So I'm happy with it. This is part of the Makita LXT 18V tool set, which I find excellent. I have their vacuum cleaner, leaf blower, electric drill and jigsaw, all single battery versions. I keep looking for other LXT tools to add to my collection. They are all well made and the batteries last. The Makita battery charger has a cooling fan to prevent battery overheating, and the charger shuts off when the battery is full to avoid overcharging. Most of these tools are also available in multi-battery versions, but I think those would be more appropriate for a professional who needs more power and battery life. For a home owner the single battery versions seem just fine. ... show more

  • Nimble yet powerful
Style: Chain Saw, Tool Only
We have a Ryobi chainsaw on a stick, an EGO chainsaw and a Stihl Farmboss with 32" bar. The Makita XCU06C is now our go-to saw for quick clean up. It is super light weight and really quite unbelievably powerful. Sure the chain is new and sharp, but I have been cutting and trimming mesquite trees for days and it cuts them with ease - up to a point. That point is near 7" with green wood. (see pic). The saw overheated about 3/4 through the branch. I let it cool, then took it the rest of the way. The 5AHr battery was freshly charged. This is more than ample for my needs. If I need to go bigger, I will grab the larger saw. This saw is very light and very easy to haul up and down a ladder. Easy to put on the branch and quick to cut through. A word of caution: it is so light, it can be dangerous to move swiftly from branch to branch. You need to exercise caution so you don't end up cutting yourself. It also throws chips a good ways. Make sure to wear safety glasses - especially when cutting above your head. I highly recommend this saw. ... show more

  • Fantastic little saw
Style: Chain Saw, Tool Only
The ultra light weight and ergonomics are absolutely awesome. I used it for the first time cutting limbs for about an hour (on and off) and only used two bars on a 5.0 ah battery. The limbs ranged in size from 2 inches to about 5 inches. I watched videos on this saw prior to purchase and noticed how easily it would bog down if pushed too hard. The lesson is...don't force it, and it'll cut. I was very surprised and pleased with it's performance, particularly in view of it's small size. I previously owned a Stihl MSA 161T and never liked it. The on/off safety was ridiculous (I finally figured out a way to bypass it), the balance was bad, the oiler was not adjustable. It had more power than this Makita, but when you add all the Makita's great features up, the Makita is definitely the better saw, for me, anyway. Great purchase. ... show more

  • Awesome little top handle.
Style: Chain Saw, Tool Only
Top quality build, that's handy to use for those quick tasks that are too short to warrant getting out a large gas saw. Just to test it out, I cut down a live 15" alder tree that needed to go. It did the job but going through that thick of green wood did require care to not put it under constant heavy torque load wothout some short breaks (5-10 seconds) for motor cooling or it would stop. We use ours almost daily for cleaning up limbs and it's so easy to use one handed with plenty of torque for a one battery saw its Size. Would definitely buy again right away if it was ever lost or stolen because its so handy to have around. ... show more
