Have you tried xbloom? The new specialty coffee pod? It's a brewing pod that comes with premium whole beans that you grind at home and then brew with their fancy coffee brewing robot? No? Could be it's out of your price range? Well that could be true, but I discovered today that the pods are the perfect size for brewing with the Makita Coffee Maker. I made myself two wonderful coffees today with the Makita and was completely stunned this thing is awesome. The coffee was even too hot to drink which was impressive for this small form factor. The xbloom pods come with 15g of whole beans and I just grind them sort of medium coarse and put them back in the xbloom pod. Next you want to insert the whole paper and ground coffee into your Makita Mesh and close the lid on top and insert into the Makita coffee slot and brew a coffee. So the xbloom pods are sort of marketed as specialty coffees with dialed in recipes for brewing, but they also use premium coffee origins too, so it's a great way to try some special single origins roasts that you haven't tried before. They also have blends and such. The coffee it excels at brewing is sort of medium roast with a chocolatey and fruity flavor, but with the high heat output of this Makita, it could really perform well with Lighter Roasts too. ... show more

I purchased this on a gift card for $150 a week later it was $20 less. Brews at approximately 93 centigrade. I had to fiddle around with ratios and grind before achieving the desired outcome. I found the grind needs to be somewhat more course than a pour over; on a Comandante this is about a 35 clicks (from fine to course). Using the pour over grind was too dense and resulted in water overflowing the basket. I used 240ml of water (max) to 15 grams coffee (15:16). It came out well- much better than Starbucks and from the convenience of not having to rush back and forth to work during breaks for mediocre, over priced coffee. I easily can spend $150/month going out for coffee and whatever treat that happens to look like a nice match at the time, so I expect this will be a great alternative for someone who enjoys specialty coffee with minimal effort, especially while traveling. The only reservation I would have might be not having 5ah batteries handy- fortunately I use Makita for my home landscaping and power tools. Otherwise, I would be far more hesitant. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. This was a total impulse buy, but it’s one that I don’t regret at all. It brews one full cup of coffee in about 5-6 minutes. Also has a plastic cup for tea bags. Incredibly simple to use and even easier to clean. This thing is great. Power usage wise if you have a 6ah battery it’ll run the machine 3 times before the battery dies.
