  • Great fan if you're in the Makita platform
I've been using this fan for just over a week now. The air flow on all 3 speeds is fantastic. Even on it's lowest setting I am able to feel a breeze indoors at about 25 feet away. The motor doesn't emit any sort of harsh or obnoxious sounds, I actually find it quite pleasant. The rotating fan head has been wonderful while tent camping, allowing it to be aimed straight up through the top air vent creating a good venturi effect. As someone that likes to have a fan running while I sleep this is perfect in the event of power outages, this fan goes from AC to battery power without a much of a hiccup there is a slight difference for a second or two but then its back to normal. One downside I've found is there is no place to store the AC power pack and cord on the tool itself, the power pack isn't large but a storage space would be nice to hold it. Other than that so far so good, I'll update if I have any changes in my experience with the DCF301Z ... show more

  • Love!!
Got this to take to the bowling alley since they won’t fix their air conditioning, it works fantastic! The battery life lasts a good amount of time. It’s not overly large or too heavy. There are 3 speeds and all 3 give off a lot of cooling air! We take this everywhere! Great price!

  • A must have for the ballfield!
This fan is amazing!! It lasts a long time. We used it throughout the entire summer going to softball/baseball tournaments, outside by the pool, and outdoor family gatherings! Many people asked us where we bought it and were shocked at the price! It puts off a strong breeze and love that it has setting to oscillate! ... show more

  • Great Fan !!
My first Makita 18 volt fan went kaput after 5 years of hard use - sporting events, weekend BBQ's, Work weekends at the cabin, working at the house, power outages / hurricanes, etc. I have both Makita batteries and Milwaukee batteries at home. Milwaukee doesn't offer a similar fan, so I replaced the old fan with a new Makita and this one is a step up from the previous model. Run Time is improved, is quieter and the battery change is easier as well. Buy one if you have the 18v batteries, you'll use it more than you think you will ... show more

  • Great fan, returned because its motor is brushed and because the blades don't seem balanced well
I love Makita tools and this fan actually did work well and moved a fair amount of air. However, I returned it due to multiple concerns over its longevity: 1) The fan vibrated when running, indicating the blades were not well-balanced at the factory. While not a big deal in itself, the eccentricity would eventually wear the motor sleeve/bearing. 2) The motor in this fan is brushed, not brushless. That means it will wear whenever it's running, and I bought this to essentially run 24/7. Worse, Makita does not sell replacement brushes, so when they fail it will require purchasing a new motor or, more likely, a whole new fan. If Makita would update this model with a better balanced blade and a brushless motor, it would be perfect; fingers crossed. ... show more

  • Be prepared for the Super El Niño!
It comes with a AC power supply so it can be used without the battery. There was no mention of that at purchase. I recently had a power outage at my home in Rancho Mirage California this is what prompted me to buy this Fan, it was brutal without air circulation for over eight hours at 95 degrees. Now I am prepared for the next one and I am sure there will be a few more with Super El Niño on the way! ... show more

  • Does cool the area.
When I get one that has not been returned I can have a better review. 1st I bought one from a big box hardware store. It was drop shipped from who knows where and it was a returned fan. The fan did not oscillate correctly meaning it turned to one side back and forth. So I ordered one from Amazon and it also did not oscillate correctly, it was a returned fan also. For my dollars I want a new properly working fan! That said I liked it and will try yet again to get a NEW one. The 13" fan put out a good amount of breeze and would be wonderful should electric be out during hot nights. Was reasonably quiet. We have Makita batteries already. Did attach a battery to get an idea of usage and the Makita parameters seem in line with time they said. I SUGGEST that if you get one pull it out of the box carefully as to not twist the fan body from the base. It is just a guess that this is where people are twisting the fan and making it oscillate to one side or the other. ... show more

  • Portable heat relief
I've had the fan for almost 2 years now. I'll keep it short and very sweet. I give it a 10 out of 10. It sits in the back of my van with stuff pulled up on top of it. I don't think it can be broken with a baseball bat (sarc). The battery life is unbelievable. I went camping for one week and used it all night, on low every night (about 7 hours or so). It lasted all week on one Makati 6AH battery with power to spare. Absolutely not even one hint of a complaint from me. Great product Makita. ... show more
